Have I convinced you on barrel pants yet? No? Well my friends, I hate to say it but I love them. And you know what? Maybe this is a trend we will all look back on and sigh, roll our eyes at, cringe at the photos. But I’ve posted my outfits on the internet for the last 17 years, so I think I’m going to take that chance. Cringing is a choice, after all.

If you’re wondering why I like them so much, specifically this activewear barrel pant, it’s because it’s such a flattering cut. I have a rounder waist and skinnier legs, I’m kind of like a wavy ruler. I have curves, but I’m also kind of straight? It’s confusing, I know. So this barrel shape somehow balances out my straightness with my curves. It’s the best I’ve felt in a silhouette since skinny jeans, which yes if you are wondering I do look back on and cringe on some of the skinny jeans outfits.

I really like this pair from Ruti. In fact, I like them so much I have three now — the black, this brown and a utility green. But the utility green is not in the longer length and honestly it makes a difference. I prefer a full length on this pant, which is why some the Amazon dupes have been harder for me to find. Until I found this pair — it’s long enough! In fact, they run slightly big so I am just fine in the mediums on this pair. (I have them in the ivory hue) The Ruti pair is a better fit, better quality fabric but for the price the Amazon one’s can’t be beat. I’ve recommended them to all my family and friends. In conclusion, I don’t see the barrel trend dying any time soon. I think we will just include it along with wide leg pants now. I actually think the death of the skinny jean really brought around a more inclusive aesthetic for jeans and beyond. I never thought I’d say this but the wide leg pants, the barrel pants, etc. are some of my favorites I’ve found in years. So don’t be afraid to try this trend, it’s going to stick around.
