Denim has long been something I’ve covered on here but year after year, I’ve noticed that the time I buy the most denim is the fall. I cannot explain this phenomenon, it just is. And this fall is no different — I’m refreshing some of my denim this year and I thought I’d take you along. Now I have had a few denim obsessions over the years but as my body, budget and lifestyle has changed my favorites have changed, too. And while I still love a great pair of Mother Denim, (especially at Anniversary sale!) I have found that I prefer a less designer pair of denim.

Madewell has always been a favorite but lately their sizing has been off for me. (Exception is this pair of barrel jeans.) And Gap is also a hit for me, when I can find the right fit. This year I was also introduced to Spanx denim and they are some of my very favorites. I am to the age now that a little bit of compression and some stretch is exactly what I’m looking for. I’ve gone through a lot of different fits but I have a few favorites and I’ve finally found my exact size. I am a medium, regular length in most of the denim. (If there is a cropped denim, I’ll go with the tall.) This pair is the Wide Leg jean and it is the perfect wide leg, in my humble opinion. This is a high rise fit, with compression at the waist and hips but it is not too tight or uncomfortable. Then the wide leg is wide, but not oversized or overwhelming. I find it to be a very flattering fit overall.

I got this pair in the carbon color, a kind of washed black because I love this hue for fall and winter. I already have a pure black pair of wide leg jeans, so a nice washed black was what I was looking for. The washed black lends to a more casual vibe and I never worry about it fading.
