Truth or Dare?

Hopefully you said truth, because that’s what you are going to get. This is a different outfit for me to be honest, but I wore it so I’m going to blog it. That’s how I roll. Sometimes new is scary. So let’s see things I like about this outfit: the sweater of the dress + belt combo. I thought that was new for Kendi. And I also really like my cowl, but maybe for another outfit? Maybe it’s the color? Or maybe it’s the crazy cold medication talking and my outfit looks just fine. Any of those could be possible. Speaking of possible hallucinations, does anyone else see that unicorn? No? Oh I guess it was just a regular horse.

If you said dare, I’ve already run through my neighbors sprinklers wearing a panda bear suit once today, okay? Isn’t that enough?

Thanks for all of your feedback on the closet post below! You guys have some GREAT tips. Instead of giving my advice, I should have just invited you guys over to clean out my closet. And while you’re at it we could really use an extra pair of hands in the kitchen. This dinner is not going to make itself.

  1. I love this outfit and totally think it works. I could see you swapping out the cowl for a chunky necklace, but overall, I think the cowl makes it. The sage green really complements the red-orange in the dress and gives the outfit another dimension.

  2. That skirt!!! I'm in love!
I would gladly come and make dinner for you, in exchange for a piece or two from your wardrobe ;]

  3. This outfit is more than just fine, Kendi! It's gorgeous. I love all these peices together, and I knew which dress that was as soon as I saw the print, ah! I'm owl obsessed and have been wanting it for the longest time!

  4. I really like this outfit! It seems less 'you' than others (whatever that means!) but I think it works for you. And I LOVE those boots!

  5. @Elaine — if that was your suggestion for dinner, I'm a vegetarian, so that's not going to work.

Thanks guys! It's still different for me but it's growing on me!

  6. I normally love your outfits…but this one is one of my favorites!

I'm totally borrowing the general concept for work tomorrow. Love it!

  7. The pop of red is my favorite part. And it's so hard to find great red garments–so good find!

PS: I think the cowl is great. Wouldn't change it. It makes the rest comfortable. Insouciant.

  8. I am most definitely a fan of this look. Gorgeous colors with neutrals keeping it from looking at all crazy—perfect! What a great dress.

  9. I adore every thing about this outfit so I think it must be that whacky medicine again. Such a cute wintery outfit, might need to try the belting a sweater over a dress look. Hope you're feeling better soon!

  10. I actually really like this outfit, I think the coal works well. Myabe I would have gone with brown leather boots instead, but that's just me. The rest looks great !

  11. What?! How are you not sure about how you feel about this outfit. It's fantastic. Cozy and interesting and stylish. And you look so beautiful and sweet peeking out from beneath your cowl 🙂

  12. I really like the sweater, dress and cowl combo. It looks so pretty and feminine! BTW, after reading the closet tips, I cleaned out mine today….I feel so. much. BETTER! ~Serene

  13. Really Really love this look Kendi, so perfect! I've been eyeing this dress but unsure of its sizing/length. What's your advice??

  14. Kendi, I think we have been reading each other's minds lately! Today at work I jotted down an outfit idea of a sweater over a dress. Then boom. You do it, and do it well. I love it! 🙂

  15. Long time follower first time commenter here.

I guess I am the minority here, or I am on the same team with your cold medicine… Normally I LOVE your outfits, but this skirt just sort of bothers me today. The fabric is too summery to go with this sweater. But that's just me and my humble opinion. What do I know anyways… (I guess now we've established I have serious self-esteem problem…)

  16. I think this outfit definitely works! I love everything about it, especially the tights, boots, and cowl : )

  17. Oh I love this pop of red colour! I think it really gives new life to the outfit.
And I have to say, these are some great layering skills. I live in a cold climate and I pick my brain every day as to how I could incorporate skirts and dresses during the winter – this is a great idea (with a few extra layers, of course)!

  18. Kendi! LOVE the red skirt.. what a nice Christmas pop of color. I also really love the cowl scarf. I have been wondering if I should get one.. you are convincing me I should get one. Thanks for sharing.

  19. I was scrolling through the pics and said out loud "cute!" In my humble opinion the green works well because it compliments the red skirt/dress. If you look at a color wheel green and red are complimentary. And it's a good green, if it was grass green, you'd look like Christmas 😉 Super cute outfit.

  20. Oh I love this outfit, even if it's not typical Kendi. The belted sweater over the dress is really cute, and I love the fun print.

  21. Love this outfit! And, okay, I know your blog is more about the clothes, but I have to admit that I swoon over your hair just as much. Seriously–it's the best. 🙂

  22. I love this outfit! I wish I could pull together outfits so nicely!

I'm a new follower, and I'm loving your blog so far!

  23. I really like this outfit but, I think it's the tights that are throwing me off… or maybe I'm just jealous :/

  24. I wont buy that skirt if I see it in a store! But you totally make it work. The whole look is just very pretty. The boots make it all very fascinating too!

  25. I love the colors. The skirt just pops and looks great. Funny how you doubt your outfit sometimes but looks totally pulled together to others. Then there are times you love it yourself but others disagree. Oh well…

  26. Running through your neighbors' sprinklers in a panda bear suit? Now that's wild! I mean, who turns on their sprinklers this time of year?

And, it was a regular horse. The one you rode on into your husband's work party, looking all equestrian.

    You crack me up!

I love cowl anytime. In my mom's dialect the word pronounced 'cowl' means 'hug', but I did mean cowlneck. Not getting fresh.

  27. I think this outfit is adorable! You needn't fret over the possible cold medicine ramifications on your wardrobe; you look quite chic.

  28. I love the outfit! The owls on the dress are so cute. I love the orange and green combo. So glad that warm color schemes are trend right now.

  29. Love the skirt/dress! An orange dress with owls couldn't get any cuter. Oh! And I got those boots! I'm crazy about them and I love seeing what you wear them with.

  30. um, i love this outfit and am currently plotting how i can, right here at christmas time, buy myself that dress. it's only $36…

  31. I think this outfit works really well–and the infinity scarf was actually my favorite part! I think it pulls it all together really well. Nicely done.

  32. I personally love this outfit. It's everything I love put into one outfit.

And now I'm totally tempted to buy that owl dress…

  33. I love this outfit! Well done. Sometimes I put an outfit together and hate it, but everyone else seems to like it 🙂

  34. I ADORE this outfit! One of my favorites that I've seen you in. I like the fashionable take on red and green. It's festive without being tacky.

  35. I love it! The scarf and boots are similar enough in shade and tone to pull the outfit together. But if you're feeling a little iffy about it, next time wear a navy sweater instead of the gray – the gray is the tone that doesn't really "go" with anything else. But like I said, I love it!

  36. i super love this outfit in a major way. take cold medicine more often! just kidding, you always look great, but i am really loving this one. so much.

  37. You look great! I love the outfit (and saved it to my "Inspiration" folder).
I have often tried to wear the dress/skirt-sweater-belt-combo but it has never worked out.
So let me just express my admiration: Well done! 🙂

  38. i found you blog on "an experiement in povery." i saw these boots on you and went straight to urban outfitters and ordered the black pair. i have been looking for the perfect black riding boot and these are it. they are so cute! oh, and your blog pretty much rocks as well 🙂
