Okay so I feel like I struck gold with this month’s rental! 5 out of 6 items were out of the park and were all worn! One item…well I’ll get to her later. I kind of went with a color theme this month (light blue and red) and I am thinking this might be a good practice moving forward. It was nice to have this poppy red peaking through in my closet throughout my selfies this month. Overall, I was pleased with my rental and I finally feel like I’ve gotten the seasonality of it all under control. (Remember when I was renting for spring in winter? lol.) I ended up returning everything this month but had lots of good reviews. Let’s get to this month’s rental!

But first, a little housekeeping: If you are new here, I wanted to try out a clothing rental service and I chose Nuuly. Nuuly charges $98 once a month and you get to choose 6 items to wear all month long then you send the pieces back. You can check out the Nuuly website here.

Each month I calculate the cost per wear for each pieces in my nuuly box. Here are the numbers: each box is $98 for 6 pieces. (For consistency, I’m leaving out taxes here since it will differ for each state.) So if you take the $98 divided by the 6 items, it’s about $16.33 per item, if you wear each item one time. Every item’s cost of $16.33 will be divided by the frequency of wear. (i.e. Cost of item rental ÷ times piece was worn = rental price per wear). Just to go a step too far, I’ve also broken down each piece with a rating system and a review for each item below.

MY RATING SYSTEM:

⭑⭑⭑⭑⭑ = would consider buying full price / will miss it when it’s gone!
⭑⭑⭑⭑ = really liked it, would prefer to buy on sale
⭑⭑⭑ = on the fence, liked it but can’t see myself wearing that often / buy on sale only
⭑⭑ = liked but didn’t wear it at all or found it hard to style
⭑ = didn’t like it / didn’t fit

Hill House Cosima Nap Dress | ⭑⭑⭑⭑⭑

CONDITION: NEW WITH TAGS
COST PER WEAR: $2.72

I wore and wore and wore this dress last month! I was kind of sad to send it away BUT I feel like I’ve just unlocked a new favorite brand at Nuuly to rent. So turning the dress back in feels like turning in a good library book; you know you’ve got to finish one to start another. And with this new knowledge, I will be renting Hill House dresses from now until eternity. I really have always admired their dresses but never tried one and now I am obsessed. I loved this dress and the blue gingham with the red, it felt very Americana in a chic way. If it’s around in July, I may have to rent it again for 4th of July.

I rented the large, great fit for me! It was slightly big but I’d rather slightly big than slightly small any ol’ day. Overall, 10 outta 10. Loved her, wore her, miss her.

MADEWELL T-Shirt Dress | ⭑⭑⭑⭑

So when I first got this dress it was a bit too tight for my liking, so I kind of tucked it away. I’ve been trying to lose some weight this spring and over the month of May, I was able to feel more comfortable in this dress! It’s definitely not as loose as this t-shirt dress at Madewell, but this one is a more (in my opinion) flattering fit. The fabric is a nice bouncy cotton that is more tailored in fit, than oversized. Super comfortable, too!

So while I really liked this dress, I only wore it a handful of times towards the end of the month.

Agolde Leith Denim Shorts | ⭑⭑⭑

CONDITION: NEW WITH TAGS
COST PER WEAR: $5.44

I am on the fence with denim shorts this summer (SHOCKING I KNOW) but I went ahead and rented these from Nuuly last month. I was a bit too early for denim shorts, as it’s warm here but it’s not quite denim short season. June really is the inaugural month for denim shorts. This was a relaxed fit and I liked it but probably not my favorite cut from Agolde. I prefer Parker the best.

I’m in the 30, per usual with Agolde! I find them to be very consistent with their sizing and I love them for that. Agolde is my number one go to for denim shorts for this reason! I can always count on Agolde.

MADEWELL LINEN DRESS | ⭑⭑⭑⭑⭑

As you may know, I loved this dress! But I was okay with sending it back. I got lots of love out of her and I felt like I was ready to let her go on to the next renter. It was a perfect dress for May, I wore it to many events and I felt like I could make a new look each time. It would be a great dress for summer too! The red is a perfect shade, not too orangey and not too red.

I rented the large and it fit perfectly. It does run kind of generously, so I’d keep that in mind if you’re interested in this dress. It’s on sale now at Madewell, by the way!

MAEVE LINEN PANTS | ⭑⭑⭑⭑

COST PER WEAR: $3.26

Okay I really loved this pair of pants. They were just a touch snug at the waist for them to be the most perfect pants. But overall true to size and the cutest shape. They’re linen and non-sheer, which is just lovely. I like finding linen pieces that don’t look beachy, like this is a very tailored pair in a very bright pop of color. Loved this orangey-red hue, as well. It was a bit harder to pair with things, but I found that neutrals worked best. This was one of those rental risks but it worked out! I love a nice pop of color around here.

And here we get to the part called “I don’t know why I rented these”. I don’t know if you can see the two pairs of the EXACT same shorts hanging behind me but…yeah. Please tell me I’m not the only one who does — you buy or in my case, rent, the identical thing to something you already own?! This is how I’ve ended up with so many white tees. *cues charming smile*

This pair of shorts needs to be retired from Nuuly. They’ve been through enough. They were worn, they were tired, they were piling. Let’s just say they’ve seen better days. And it wasn’t so much the condition of the piece but the fact that I already had a pair of shorts in this hue that fit better that I wore instead. And that negative $16 is on me. Rule #11: thou shall not rent the same exact items you already own.
