I’ve documented my outfits for the last 15 years online, so I basically have an unending catalog of outfits and ideas that I can reach into at any time. Some outfits are very repeatable even now, others are…well, lessons learned. The other day I was looking through some archives for my pre-loved shop and came across this post here. I remember loving this outfit — a flowy, colorful maxi dress and a black structured blazer, slight juxtaposition that worked really well. In theory it shouldn’t but on person it did. I cataloged it in my brain, I think because I was looking for a layer for this dress and the idea of an oversized blazer came to me. I remembered how much I loved that look and so I tried it with this one. The key, I realized was keeping the blazer on my shoulders, not worn on my body and that’s what creates the easy pairing here. If I put it on, it looks too oversized, but placed over my shoulders, it looks like an effortless but correct last minute addition.
This dress is an unexpected like for me. I’ve been trying to add color this spring but I’ve been uninspired and everything I try I end up just knowing I won’t wear it again. In fact, this dress seems a bit twee for me between the color and the eyelet, but I’ve loved wearing it. I’m in the medium and it’s fitted at the chest for me but overall true to size.

PS: I love these flats and I just know I’ll be wearing them all summer long. You know how I can get with a single pair of shoes… remember my suede flats from last fall I found and wore all the time? These are my spring ones.
