This dress has an easygoing fit and boy do I appreciate it. I think that’s why I’ve been wearing it every week since I bought it. The high, boatneck threw me off at first – I wasn’t sure if it was going to be a keep for me. But after wearing it a few times, I actually really like it and it looks nice with my hair pulled back. The best part of the dress is the smocking as it is so flattering (I don’t always find this to be the case with smocking). There is a looseness to it, it’s not tight at all on my waist or my bust. (THE RELIEF I FEEL.) It hits right at the hips where the skirt flares out slightly. For me, I don’t love a too tight dress but I also want some kind of shape to it. As you can imagine, this criteria can make finding the right dress tough; rarely is there an in between too tight and too loose. Alas, I have found the in-between with this one.

Now I’m in the medium and it fits generously. I wouldn’t say it fits me too big by any means, but it’s a looser fit. This makes me think it runs big, if the medium is generous on me. So keep that in mind! You can find this dress from Madewell here.

I know eventually I’ll need to layer this dress with probably a blazer or a jacket maybe even a cardigan but for now, it’s been nice to just have a autumn dress that works with our slow descent into cooler days. Fall weather can’t come soon enough.
