I am a firm believer in white for spring and while I do love a white jean, I really love a white blouse. In fact, I would say I *prefer* a white blouse or tee to white jeans just for the versatility. I have way too many outfit posts on here from past spring seasons that can back up my claims of white blouse love, but today I wanted to show you to in-season options that are perfect for this spring.

I had this idea to do a ‘This or That’ series on the blog with one option being a higher price and the other a lower. I typically link ‘similar’ items if something I’m wearing is over $100, but sometimes it’s hard to envision it as the exact same outfit. I have these two VERY similar tops from Madewell and Walmart and I would style them the exact same, so they kind of cancel each other out as far as outfit photos. Only one can win but then I thought — wait a minute, why not show both in the exact same styling so you can see two different options in the same light? Therefore This or That was born. Necessity is the mother of invention.

Before we get to the tops, I have been loving lighter denim this spring. And while there is wide debate on if skinny jeans are dead or not, I personally will not be burying my skinny jeans any time soon. Gen Z will just have to suffer through the offensive sight of my tapered legs because I love this new pair of Levi’s 501s. I love that they aren’t distressed and the light blue hue. 501s always fit just right, too. I am in the 28, they fit TTS. Find them here!

Let’s get to the tops!

Under $100 Option

For a hot second I thought I was going to pass on puff sleeves this spring. I don’t know what I was thinking but I love puff sleeves which is good because they are EVERYWHERE. Good luck finding a blouse without a ruffle or a puff this spring. Luckily I love both and this top has both. This pleasant little blouse is from Madewell and is a slightly sheer, very lightweight — almost muslin like — fabric that is perfect for spring / summer temps. Maybe a little cool for right now, in fact. I am in the medium and it fits TTS.

Under $30 Option

In the same vein, this poplin top has a high neckline, slightly puff sleeves but alas no ruffle. If a big ruffle goes a bit too far for you, I understand. This option is perfect for you, as the ruffle only exists around the mock neckline. This top is a studier cotton, not sheer and  in fact it’s 100% organic cotton if you can believe. Get it, Walmart. It definitely needs a good ironing but once it’s ironed out it’s a beautiful fabric and blouse. You would never guess it was under $30, it’s so well made. I am in the medium and I must say it fits pretty generous. You could easily size down one, especially if you are smaller up top.

The nice thing is that this is a classic and lovely blouse to work spring, summer and fall. And all for under $30!

Find this top here.

So the question begs THIS (Madewell top) or THAT (Walmart top)? Let me know in the comments below!

  1. Love the Walmart option!!! Ordered one in medium 👌- i hope that it doesn’t shrink – will air dry. Pairing with boyfriend shorts as soon as the snow melts! 🌨☃️ I live in Colorado – we are expecting several feet of snow this weekend! I love your posts – always look forward to them!!! ❤️🙃
