Since it’s December, I wanted to share a couple of affordable holiday looks on the blog over the next few weeks! Since this is the time to dress up and celebrate, why not do it in style? So I hope you don’t mind a few fancy looks in the next few weeks, of course who doesn’t love a good holiday outfit? (Those hands better be down, missy.)

Let’s start with one of my favorite combinations of holiday outfits — the tuxedo blazer and dress combo. This outfit is perfect for an office party or a party that you need to still be a bit more professional looking. AKA a two drink limit kind of party. I loved this velvet dress — it reminds me of a 1920’s silhouette, with the layered lace in between the velvet layers. Plus, it’s comfortable. Hallelujah, yes please and amen for a comfortable holiday dress. And when office parties inevitably get awkward, you’ll be grateful that at least your dress is comfortable.

So oddly enough I find blazers hard to find. Well party blazers I should say. Blazers are easy to come by, because J.Crew has pretty much perfected that skill set of making a great fitting blazer. But when it comes to one that works with dresses, especially for the holidays, these are pretty rare. I’ve worn the same one for years, it was one that we got in during holiday season at the shop in 2013.  It’s a cropped silk blazer and it works perfectly for —  you guessed it — holiday dresses. So I was very, very excited to find a longer version this year! And it’s under $100, which is perfect for my holiday outfit ensemble.

Excuse me while I go find a holiday office party to crash.

Fit Details

I found the dress to run a tad bit small in the shoulders and the chest. Size up if this is typically where dresses run small for you! Same with the jacket; it’s just a bit more snug in the shoulders so if you’re a bit more broad shouldered then size up. If petite, then stay true!

Monthly Capsule Wardrobe

Each month I create monthly capsules out of my favorite pieces, perfectly curated for each month.
