Photos are a funny thing since really, you can only see what’s in frame. In this instance, you see me posing, having fun, giving Tyra my 25 best frames. But what you don’t see is that 15 feet to my right the road is completely torn up, there is a spread of construction barrels and equipment everywhere and you guessed it, about 15 men in orange vests watching me pose in front of a white wall and a man with a camera (my husband, if you were wondering).

My shamelessness is at an all-time low these days. Not that I’m not okay with it. I laugh now because  this side of three years ago I would have said no way, but now I just smile and go on with my business. It turns out people don’t think you are as weird as you feel. Within a few minutes the guys went back to work and I was once again invisible. Actually I take that back the former comment; they definitely thought I was weird. And I’m okay with that, too.

Isn’t mint and navy just the best combination? I feel like nothing screams spring like mint. Do you hear that, Spring? I’m now yelling at you. Show up before I have to get nasty, ok?

  1. Argh, I’m totally jealous of how cute this skirt looks on you as I tried it on last week at J.Crew and it just didn’t work on my short frame – I think it needed to be taken in so it would sit higher on my waist and I wasn’t willing to put money into it when it was full price. Maybe on sale I’d be more willing, especially after seeing how cute it looks with the mint blouse. Love it!

  2. Such a great story! I’ll bet they were just staring because you looked rockin’ in this mint top! 😉

  3. Love the navy and mint combination! But, even more, I love the story behind the post. I’m not the most outgoing person and my friends have often commented about how amazing it is that I will stand on busy NYC streets and sidewalks for the sake of blog photos. Got to love it.

  4. that just made my day 🙂 i’m still on the side of being embarrassed when anyone that isn’t related to me is around when taking pictures. even then it’s iffy 😉 and yes, mint + navy = perfection 🙂

  5. I’m loving the color combo, and i know exactly the feeling when taking pictures and having people looking at me like …what is she doing?!?, but it is also fun, its all about having fun, lovely post … Yadi 🙂

  6. I love mint so very much. I’m glad you did what you want! Ha. I always lauded the ability for fashion bloggers to have their photos taken out in public. It takes some confidence that’s for sure!

  7. haha Picturing the construction workers is great. I love your shamelessness!

  8. Minty mint mint! So fresh and so clean! Love the neutral heel to add interest, but ground the whole look! Happy Tuesday!

  11. Great outfit, but I really enjoyed your little “behind the scenes” view. I’m a new blogger (also waiting for spring in the great state of Texas) that just had a similar experience. Attempting to take great outfit pics of yourself in a public area with a tripod is a life lesson in putting yourself out there -literally. My blog is http://www.styleandimperfection.blogspot.com – stop by. I’d appreciate the feedback.

  18. Great outfit. I’m loving mint and navy right now!

It’s funny, I’m not quite “there yet” as far as taking blog photos 30 feet away from construction workers, but I see myself caring less and less about who sees me doing it. So what if they think I’m a weirdo!!

  19. That’s so true; we definitely should care less about how people view us! Sadly, I haven’t gotten to that level of comfort yet… I’m still taking photos in somewhat hidden spots! But this is encouraging me to push those limits 🙂 I love the mint here~ so springy. I recently did a mint outfit too…It’s a great color!

  23. The navy and mint is such a lovely colour combination! 🙂

I always feel awkward if people see me snapping blog photos, haha! Maybe I’ll get used to it over time 🙂

    Away From The Blue

  24. Ha, I just bought a pair of mint jeans for spring and dubbed it wishful thinking, as we here in the north are about to get socked with a ton more snow.

  25. Haha I think as we grow older, we get over being too self-conscious. I say, as long as it makes you happy and you don’t hurt anyone, go for it! lol Anyway, I am loving this color combination! I’ve never really thought mint and navy can look so good together. Absolutely gorgeous.

  26. I love how mint and lime green pair so well with navy and I totally admire your ability to get your pictures in with onlookers nearby.

  30. This is so hilarious. At least Brian is with you! I take photos with a tripod and a remote. Yesterday when I was out taking photos, two young girls rode by on their bikes and one asked the other, “What is she doing?” to which she replied, “Taking photos of herself!” And then they burst into fits of laughter. I was pretty embarrassed and it definitely takes something (though I won’t say what) to stand there and continue your shoot with an audience.

  31. mint and navy certainly is a lovely combo!

Ha! I love what was happening off camera. I get that too – although in my neighborhood it is punk kids. Youths.

  33. Wow, you’re pretty confident! That’s so cool that you’re just nonchalant about it. Adorable outfit and yes, nothing says spring like mint.
