If you are tall, you’ve had this moment: you pick up what you think is a dress. You try it on in the dressing room, without pants on because…it’s a dress. And as you get the dress on, you suddenly see ALL of your legs in the mirror and realize this is not a dress, it can’t be.

Of course,  I’m usually wrong and it IS a dress, just not for me. I sighed; another dress trumped by my height and moral standings yet again. I did go ahead and ask the sales associate if this was a tunic or a dress. She looked at me like I was joking, I could see her eyes rolling in the back of her head as she flatly said ‘tunic’ without ever looking up. Trying to be cool, I calmly celebrated with a vague nod even though I wanted to kiss her and tell her that’s the best news I’ve heard all day. Of course, even if it had been a ‘dress’ I would have still bought it. Nothing can keep me from a striped anything, not even a mistakenly named dress.

  1. You are rocking it lately, girl! You’re looking very fresh and chic. Love this outfit!

  2. Lol. I have the opposite problem since I am short and think tunics are dresses. Very cute find Kendi. P.S Happy Valentine’s Day!

  3. That tunic is seriously adorable! I’m loving all the blue outfits lately 🙂 Happy V-Day to you and your husband!

  4. I have this problem with work dresses. I try on what I am sure will be a work dress and alas, nope it is definitely not at all appropriate for work.

Love that tunic/dress though, it’s a very good length on you!

    1. That makes me so sad! I was trying to find it somewhere else but couldn’t find a similar one. The brand is Aryn K. if you want to search amazon or ebay 🙂

    1. So far these are, I’ve worn them for about 4 hours today. They have a rubber sole which is nice, especially if you stand a lot of the day. Honestly I can’t even feel the strap. Hope this helps 🙂

  5. I’m that girl too….I also have a freakishly long torso…so, yeah normal top on the average Joe…for this girl? Its a crop top. I love shopping on sites (F21 is one of them, sometimes anthro too) that tells the length of a top, so I know what I’m getting myself into.

Thanks for being the best blog writer I have yet to encounter xo

  6. i’m 6’0” so this is the STORY of my LIFE… still hoping some tall options (especially for dresses) may one day pop up in boutique clothing stores like bloom! checkin’ out the tunic at anthropologie now!

  7. Love this tunic! Would you mind sharing what size you are wearing? I have a very similar body type and am not sure if I should get the S or M. Thank you!

  8. Gorgeous outfit, love the stripes and cape!

  9. Gorgeous look. Love the cape and also that stripe top is just amazing. Adoring the wedges too.

  10. When you’re 5’1″ it’s the opposite problem — trying on a shirt, it’s definitely a shirt, with pants and finding out that on you, it’s a dress!

  11. I absolutely love everything about this. Way to feed my already unhealthy shopping habit, because now I want this tunic and a cape to wear with it! I love you and I hate you at the same time.

  20. Thanks so much Kendi! I will definitely do some searching:) Do you think there's any chance Bloom would stock them again?

  21. On the flip side, I’m 5’2″ and jump for joy when tunics fit me as dresses and mini dresses hit me at the knee!

  27. Being tall, I’ve had this problem so many times. I’ve resolved it by wearing leggings under dresses but still it gets annoying after a while. Midi dresses fit like normal dresses & maxi dresses are midis. I just want a maxi to be a maxi for Christ’s sake!

  30. Customer service these days, ha! You look adorbs, and I totally feel your pain. At 5’8″ almost all of my pants are floods. I just tell people they’re supposed to be cropped…

  32. Boy, do I feel you on this one! At nearly six feet tall, height is only half my problem. Couple that with the great disparity between my waist and hip measurements, dresses – or tunics! – that actually work are a rarity for me. Been dying to get a Kelly Wynne too, since we have the same initials, I just wish they weren’t quite so pricey…

  33. Love this outfit – I too cannot resist anything with stripes and often run into the dress and top issue at 6’0 🙂 That’s why I just make my own clothes – lol!

  35. Will find a cape like this someday! Loved it for several posts, but finally commented on it. Cute tunic, also – love all striped things. – Joanna

  36. Absolutely LOVE the outfit!! Can you tell me if the tunic runs big? I am between a S and M and would love to order tonight while they still have free shipping!!

  38. Ooh, your longer necklace – where is it from?! I kid you not, I’ve been looking for one like that for *years*!

  42. #tallgirlproblem haha. I usually don’t mind even ask anymore. If i think it’s cute and ends up being too short for me, I can always wear it as a top, as you probably would have had this been a dress lol
