This weekend I headed out on the open road with sisters Sally and Molly from a Piece of Toast headed to Old Navy Oasis in Indio, CA. They kindly let me drive the Mini Cooper that we rented and now I'm trying to devise a plan to somehow get one for me and B. Completely impractical for us but 100% adorable.
Dino Land / AKA the best $8 I've ever spent at a roadside attraction
Coachella Valley Preserve / literally an oasis in the desert, if you are ever around the area you HAVE to go
Date Shakes #delicious
Below is a map that is pretty much the route that we took. I am 100% that this is a completely accurate and to scale. Let me know if you need copies for your text road trip.
By Saturday, we'd made it to the Old Navy Oasis where we hosted the event, sat poolside and listened to a live performance by Young the Giant. (Four of the nicest human beings possible.) I did learn a few things during my time in the desert: wear closed toe shoes because sand is your enemy; it's just as hot as they say it is -- no one is exaggerating; and water is your everything. I think at one point I really was hallucinating an oasis because I forgot to drink water. Luckily there was a sno-cone stand, so my vital signs weren't down for long.
All in all it was a quick trip but I'd do it all again this weekend if I could. California kind of stole my heart, which is not hard to do when you have beautiful weather and palm trees.
You can see more of our trip on Old Navy's twitter and Instagram and see the mini-documentary (and I do mean mini) below!
