It has been so warm here this weekend that it felt right to dress like spring. (You are correct — it did snow last week and this week it will be in the 70s. Everything is weird here.) Spring is my favorite season, I get giddy just thinking about it. Mainly because spring means color and you know this girl loves color.

Just a PSA for my girls out there: if you want high-quality pieces for cheap, go to the sale racks right this moment. Sure you are at work or you have other responsibilities like babies or school, but this is dire. Go right this moment. I mean, I got this cashmere sweater for $25 and it was originally like a million dollars. I didn’t do the math, but I’m pretty sure it was more than 80% off. (Side note: maybe this is just in Texas because we never have a long winter here. I’ve always wondered that. Do you guys up north have great summer sales and we get the winter sales?)

You are welcome for spreading this message of hope. Friends don’t let friends take sales lightly.

  1. great outfit! you look amazing in purple! & no, winter things are not yet on sale up here in the north..we have a few more months till that happens! hahahaha!!

  2. Yes, absolutely we get great summer sales here in Ohio! Problem is, I usually can’t wear any of it until spring and that’s always annoying….

  3. Bahaha, love your PSA! Also love the combo of soft pastels with “tougher,” more “masculine” colors, like olive.

  4. Love this spring-like outfit. Purple looks great on you and how fabulous is that necklace! Here in the northeast, winter goes well into March and April, so we probably won’t see any winter sales until the end of Feb!

  5. I appreciate you not letting friends take sales lightly. We bloggers have to stick together!

Loving the pastels paired with the olive green!

  6. I frequently wonder about this too. Miami summer sales are not as great as winter sales. I got a fabulous pink blazer at LOFT this weekend for less than $30! It was 65% off!

I love the necklace you’re wearing here. I think I agree with you on spring being my favorite season, but I sort of say that about every season. E.g., I really liked fall this year (last year). The thing is, I love color, period. I sort of wear it all the time. But there’s something about soft spring pastels that really make me happy.

  7. Super cute, girl! You look like a little Easter egg 😉 I like the cargos with those soft pastels.

We have great sales going on right now in the Midwest. It’s still cold as hell here, but all of the stores are dumping the winter stuff for the new spring merch. So, we’re able to get great deals on winter clothes and still wear them – win/win!

  8. Tough pastels!  rawr!  Oxymoron!

I love it.  Seriously, that’s a great deal.  I don’t live in the north, but we have great summer and winter sales.  Our weather is somewhere in the middle, so maybe you’re right.

  9. “Friend don’t let friends take sales lightly.” <<< Haha, so true. I'll have to segue over to my stores… let loose. get crazy (but not too crazy).

  10. We pretty much have the same sales just different amounts of merchandise. I moved from McKinney to Erie, PA and winter gear gets marked down big time in January … we just happen to have a bunch more winter gear in stock up here than they ever did down there. Haha

  11. There are so. many. deals right now in SoCal (it’s 70 here, too) and I’m getting STEALS on winter looks. But I can’t wear them. Unless I want to sweat in them all day. Which isn’t a pretty look. Doing a rain dance as we speak.

Yes, Northern people have Winter sales! I got some Winter clothing for super cheap (a $40 fur vest for $6!) I think companies just want to dump their merchandise!

  14. It’s so funny you should write a post about this…for the first time this year, I decided to take advantage of these “winter sales” because we too (OC, Southern Ca) have it weird here…raining and cold one day and 80 degrees the next! I may or may not have scored a sweet vintage style leopard coat from Forever for $15.00. Down from $65.00! Love today’s look (as ALWAYS.) Xo

  15. I live in Louisiana, which is basically the same crazy “winter” that y’all get in Texas except with even less snow…just a shit load of rain.  Every store around here has bathing suits, neons and short shorts out right now and every single winter item is on super sale.  It’s pretty awesome, because while this week it may be sunny and 78*,  in a few days it very well may be wet, overcast and frigidly cold (and by frigid, of course I mean below 55*…no dramatics here.)  It makes padding my wardrobe with quality pieces pretty easy! 🙂

PS – I’m seriously adoring this combo.

  16. Dude. YES about the sales! Express is having an awesome clearance sale and if you can’t find something in your size you can order it online through the store and get free shipping! (I didn’t know they did that!) Also, Urban Outfitters is doing 50% off clearance items. I grabbed a bunch of colorful flats orginally priced at $29.99 for $10! Such a steal.

  18. Dude. YES about the sales! Express is having this amazing clearance sale, and if you can’t find something in your size the store can order it for you online with free shipping (I didn’t know they did that). $79 jeans are now just $20.

  19. Great buy, and beauitul sweater. In Michigan, they bring out beachwear and clearance out winter gear in January. Yes, January.

  20. Stop teasing me with the good sales! I’m spending a whole year not shopping for clothes! So far it’s going fine, but every time I stop by your blog, I’m like, “Oooh, I need a new lavendar sweater! I have to have a pair of pointy flats!”

Torture, I say. Keep it up.

  22. Love it! Haven’t noticed crazy sales, but I live an hour away from the amazingness that is the JCrew Clearance Store – actual overstock or returned items from JCrew at like 80% off. Amazing. I got an $80 blazer I’d been eyeing for $40 at the store, and two $100+ shirts for $20 each. Magic.

  23. LOVE the pastel purple and the plaid shirt under it. Plus that necklace is an amazing statement maker!

  24. Love the colors for Spring! Here in western Washington (the state) some winter things are are clearanced but very few things are uber-clearanced…yet. Swimsuits and Spring attire is popping up too but there’s still plenty of sweaters and long-sleeves regularly priced. =( I’m thinking I need to move to Texas. Warmer weather AND great sales…I’m sold!

  25. I wish it has been warm here, but -15 degree windchills is leaving me a bit cold! Love the pastel look! I love find great items at H&M! Super cute and easy to style!

  26. The color of that sweater is gorgeous! It looks great paired with olive pants. I will be trying this combination when we’re out of the deep freeze. Thank you for the inspiration!

  27. Sales are crazy here too! I’m in Ohio/Kentucky. Everybody’s getting rid of the stuff from last year. Thanks for sharing though!

    xo Ashleyluckylittlebird.blogspot.com

  28. I’d comment about sales, but to be honest, where I’m from, we tend to not pay attention to that kind of stuff around this time of year! Half the people are just happy to get their cars started and get to work on time – this past weekend it was -40+ degrees in my hometown. That’s with windchill factor. Actual temps are -17, I think, but it’s so dangerous, you can’t be outside more than a few minutes, for fear of your health. Makes clothing become a necessity rather than fashion. Sad, but true. We wear shorts when it gets above zero, I remember seeing the college kids do that. And flip flops. We are hearty folk 🙂

  29. I love the colors of your sweater and shirt. So pretty. I’m actually wearing nail polish that is very close to the color of you sweater. In Buffalo since our winters last until mid-march we usually end up with great summer discounts in June when we think summer is just starting.

  30. That sweater is amazing, what a steal! Love how you layered it over that colorful oxford shirt! i love this spring inspiration  I am tired of the cold weather here already. although this weekend was nice and warm.

now I am going to have to drop everything to see if we have good sales in the bay area lol.

  31. It’s really warm in Florida to! Last week it almost reached 90, but it’s a really nice breezy 60 degrees today. This is break out sweater weather for us! The sales are super good here with all the stores trying to phase out all of their fall and winter items for spring. I almost bought $15 gold shoes from Urban Outfitters that were originally $50.

  32. It’s FREEZING here!  We haven’t hit the freezing mark since January 10th.  That’s 12 days in the twenties and teens.  All I want to wear is 3 pairs of sweat pants and about 6 layers on top!  Enjoy your Spring in the Winter! 🙂

  33. I have pants that color but I never thought of wearing pastels with them! Thanks!

  34. Funny my friends and I were just discussing about this iced lavender colored cashmere yesterday. It looks soft and sweet but with a totally tough and sharp feel. I was so tempted…

  35. I thought it was just the stores around here, but holy cow – I’ve never seen sales this good. I bought a shirt for $4 the other day – $4!! But it’s crazy, because I live in AZ. Our weather calls for t-shirts and flip-flops all year long (at least that’s how it’s been this past year I’ve lived here). I don’t get why everyone is having a huge “winter” sale…. all of the “winter” clothes have been pretty much the same as the spring/summer clothes they’ve been bringing out. Ha. But hey – I’ll take it. I bought a cute skirt, a gorgeous silk shirt, and a pair of shoes for about $30. I’m not complaining.

    1. Hi, Rachel! Did you get your $4.00 shirt from J crew? I live in (Tucson)  AZ too. I went to our one and only J crew here in Tucson last week and not much merchandise left. A lot of the items are either XXS, XS or XL…Hardly find anything that fits me.

      1. No, I actually bought it at JC Penney. I literally haven’t shopped there in years (not really my style), but they had some stellar sales going on so I figured I’d check it out. They surprisingly had some really good picks in my size.

I’ve had the same problem with J. Crew, though – all of their sale items are either ridiculously small or ridiculously large! And thanks – I’m always a sucker for a good tie neck blouse.

  36. great outfit! you look amazing in purple! & no, winter things are not yet on sale up here in the north..we have a few more months till that happens! hahahaha!!

  40. Absolutely love the color here, especially that necklace! I've been eyeing it for some time now!

also, your hair looks great straight 🙂

  102. As soon a I read your “warm” comment I wanted to punch a hole in the computer screen. The high today in Chicago was 16 degrees. Unbearable 🙁

  103. Hi, Rachel! Did you get your $4.00 shirt from J crew? I live in (Tucson)  AZ too. I went to our one and only J crew here in Tucson last week and not much merchandise left. A lot of the items are either XXS, XS or XL…Hardly find anything that fits me.

  104. No, I actually bought it at JC Penney. I literally haven't shopped there in years (not really my style), but they had some stellar sales going on so I figured I'd check it out. They surprisingly had some really good picks in my size.

I've had the same problem with J. Crew, though – all of their sale items are either ridiculously small or ridiculously large! And thanks – I'm always a sucker for a good tie neck blouse.

  106. I’ve found the physical shopping arena in Chicago somewhat unappealing right now. Stores are completely bare! (and the new stuff? no thanks.)

I’ve been having a lot of luck with online sale shopping. With all the free shipping offers, the only unfortunate thing is the waiting game…and I’m not the most patient of people!

  107. Here in Indiana we have great summer and winter sales, but the winter ones are the best!! Like getting millon dollar cashmere sweaters for $25 dollars good! 😉

  110. My shop in Portland, Oregon still has a huge sale section of summer dresses from last year. Summer in the Northwest lasts for a two months if we’re lucky. We need that warm stuff all year, so it doesn’t get the crazy sales.
