This pretty little dress is not exactly as it seems. If you click here you can see it’s a drop waist dress, which did not work for me and my body type. I DO think it could work for another body type but for a rounder waist it didn’t make a whole lot of sense. But when I was in the dressing room, I realized I could pull the waist up, where the skirt and the sweater top meet and create a layered look instead. I kind of ‘fluffed’ the sweater over the elastic band so it hides where the two met and it just looks like it’s a sweater with a skirt. This in turn made it even more comfortable to wear — no body conscious worrying because everything around my middle is nice and loose. What is that you said? It sounds perfect for Thanksgiving dinner? I couldn’t agree more.

Not only would it be perfect for Thanksgiving dinner or lunch, but I’ve also decided that it would be perfect for family photos. You can move in it, it looks elegant and you can style it a multitude of ways. It’s giving Kate Middleton.

I am in the large of the dress. Last minute in the fitting room I decided to go up a size for a looser fit around the chest and I’m glad I did. It does run true to size but if I know me (and I do) then if something is too tight at the bust, I simply won’t wear it. If you have a bigger chest, I suggest a size up for wiggle room but if not, it really is a true to size fit. Find it 40% off here!

I just almost paired this dress with my tall boots but…I couldn’t find the other one. I wanted to go for a more Ralph Lauren look, but I only have one boot and I can’t find its sister. This concerns me because the last time I had it was on a trip which begs the question: did I forget one very large boot? If so, I have follow up questions for my past self. How did you pack one, but not two very large boots? Also that trip was about a month ago, why are you just now discovering you only have one boot?

All of that to say: this dress would look really good with knee high boots as well. I tried a belt and it worked well, too, I just didn’t like the vibe for this outfit. Plus you can wear it again! Navy is such an underrated color for the holidays, by the way. Don’t you agree? It goes so well with all of the other holiday hues (red, dark green, gold and metallics) and yet it feels more elevated than just black. And you can wear it past the holidays, too without feeling like you are the Christmas decorations that got left out past January. Sequins in January just feel wrong, you know? But navy? Navy works year round.
