We are slowly moving into fall and can I be honest? I am actually quite lost at what to wear. Don’t hear me wrongly — I *have* things to wear (TOO MANY) but my conundrum is *what* to wear now that it’s actually decent weather out. We were stuck in the eternal damnation that was this summer for so long, I kinda forgot how to get dressed for something other than 100+ temps. Sounds silly, I know, especially since I have been counting down to weather like this. So I am going back to my basics — my favorite mini, a striped top, my favorite black booties and this new to me Coatigan from Shopbop. (Not quite a coat, not exactly a cardigan = coatigan. Not to be confused when you are just wearing a coat again and someone says ‘That coat again?’) The coatigan is there for emotional support, more than warmth if I’m being honest. But overall returning to my favorite fall pieces (the skirt, the booties, the stripes) got me out of my ‘what am I even doing’ funk.

To be honest, I’ve been in a bit of a funk this year. I am trying to crawl out of it, but if you’ve noticed — I know you have — there haven’t been any capsules since July. Two reasons: 1) I think I want to move to seasonal ones instead of monthly for reasons I can expand on later and 2) the aforementioned Funk. Personally it’s been a weird year and so much of this job is tied to my creative side, which unfortunately can be either fueled or fatigued by my personal life. This year it has been fatigued. So one thing I did as to not crash and burn was to take the capsule off of my plate so as I didn’t burn out and truthfully it’s been nice to take a break from them. I love a capsule, I love a remix, I love being creative in my closet but when my ideas are coming up empty this is a sign for me to take a break. So in the midst of all the gorgeous fall capsules I keep seeing pop up on the internet, I have nothing for you and I so apologize. Every time I try to plan it out, I walk away from it within a few minutes. I’m just not there right now. So that’s either the fun part or the annoying part of following me — I’m a human and sometimes I just don’t function at the highest level which ends up feeling like a rollercoaster I’m sure as a reader. I need a content hiatus sometimes, even though it disrupts the all-knowing IG algorithm or perhaps the blog schedule that we all know and love. (I know I’m in control of this, but even I miss the capsules even if I can’t produce them right now)

To be fair, these 4 pieces I’m wearing here would definitely be in a fall capsule. And you know what? I may wake up tomorrow with a million ideas. But I may not, as well, and for that I am sorry if it’s been disappointing as a reader for the sudden stop of the capsules, but hopefully I’ll get some inspiration soon enough and we will be back on schedule.

What was I saying again? Oh yes. The power of a mini skirt and a striped shirt to get me dressed in the morning. Never underestimate the stripes.

  1. This brings me back (just a little bit!) to the og kendi everyday, circa 2011! Layering, stripes, mix and match!

  2. You don’t need to apologize! You have the best content, capsule or not. You take care of yourself, and I will go buy a stripe shirt and a black mini, stat.

  3. Girl, you made me so happy to see another way to style my Marc Fisher booties. Thank you for that, and take all the down time you need!

  4. A great lesson in lucidity and common sense. The elegance of your spirit (just like your figure and your collection) is the icing on the cake. Even beautiful leaves need to spread out on gardens or water surfaces in the fall. So, lie back and let your beauty surge around you.
