Polka dots and trench jackets should really be a classic pairing in my book. Polka dots are the underrated cousin of stripes, in my humble opinion. Stripes get all the attention but I feel like polka dots should be making a comeback. They don’t get enough attention these days. This dress, however, gives way to this polka dot deficient we are facing. It’s got polka dots and ruffles. And if you were reading this without seeing the photos, you’d think polka dots AND ruffles?? You going to pre-k in that dress, girl? But the little ruffle details on the shoulders of this dress are so chic and give just the right amount of frill. I’m all for a little frill this time of January anyways. This is when I start to get a bit bored with winter clothes, so I welcome an unexpected girly dress any day.

As always we are having that in-between winter that sometimes feels impossible to dress for day to day. So I was on the hunt for a jacket that would be warm enough but not necessarily a heavy coat, as I’m loaded down with heavy coats for winter. I took a chance and ordered this Vince Camuto trench jacket, which much to my surprise ended up being thicker and better than what I imagined when I ordered it. I just expected a normal cotton trench, but the fabric has almost a neoprene or scuba feeling (not quite because it isn’t that thick, but you get the idea). Luckily it is a bit warmer than my other cotton trench jacket that I wear non-stop in spring. The best part is this jacket keeps it’s shape and doesn’t instantly wrinkle. That’s my least favorite thing about cotton trench coats — the almost automatic wrinkles. But this one keeps it’s structure. Um, yes please. Whatever technology this is, please apply to all of my clothes, thank you very much.

Is a winter trench jacket a thing? Because I think I own one now.

If you too are having an in-between winter, I’ve pulled a few lovely not quite coats for you! If you are looking for a lighter trench option, this one is on sale! (And if you are having a full on blasted winter, God bless your soul.)

Fit Details

The dress is Topshop so I find the fit is always a little bit on the smaller side. I sized up one but mainly for length. I’d say if you lean more towards fitted, stay true. If you want some wiggle room, size up one! The trench is definitely true to size with some room to grow. If petite, perhaps size down!
