As much as we try, B and I are not ones to hold family traditions. After 8 christmases together, we fail at returning to many of the same new traditions we start every year. But one of my favorite traditions of the holidays is Christmas Eve night. B and I usually close the shop a few hours early and start our celebrations. We usually get dressed up in our best and go to a candlelight service and dinner.  Then we come home, make cocoa and watch our favorite Christmas movies until we fall asleep on the couch, forgetting that we were going to open just one gift before the morning.  It’s always my favorite tradition, that we actually remember to keep. We aren’t always great at gift giving, putting a tree up or even remembering what we did last year but this tradition actually sticks every year. (My all time favorite holiday movie is a toss up between Love Actually and Four Christmases. B is an old soul — his are Christmas Vacation and A Christmas Story. I’m a new romantic, what can I say?)
But I love getting all dressed up for the holidays. I’m either reaching for pajamas or a pretty dress around this time of year. But when celebrating Christmas Eve between cozy or fancy, I choose fancy first, cozy later. I loved this Eliza J dress from the minute I saw it hanging in the store. It’s the right amount of holiday and classic, so I can wear it any time outside of the holidays, too. You can never go wrong with polka dots, I always say and you can definitely not go wrong with a little black dress. In fact, this is the easiest holiday dress I’ve found. Maybe I’ve found a new tradition after all.

  1. Hey Kendi!

Do you think you can do a post sometime on how heels are supposed to fit? I always see well-dressed women with their heels having a gap at the back but I find when I fit mine like that they tend to slip. I feel like if anyone knows proper fitting it would be you 🙂

    1. That’s a great idea! I’ll put that on the list for 2016!

It’s so funny because I was like gap in the back?? And I went back and looked at the photos and sure enough there is a gap 🙂 These heels actually fit well and I didn’t think they slipped around when I moved (but the photos apparently tell a different story!). Love this idea for a post! 🙂

  2. Beautiful holiday look! I love the polka dots.

  3. Gorgeous dress! Truly perfect for this festive time of year, while also being appropriate for use throughout the rest of the year as well. Traditions for me are a bit up in the air right now, but each year I just make the effort to really relax and take in the season of light–because after Christmas, it’s dark and gloomy for months before spring 🙁
