This is my last outfit as a shopgirl and well, I survived the last weekend of our shop, bloom*. Thank you to anyone who stopped by, sent cards, flowers or just general kind words or thoughts our way. I have never felt so loved. Closing the shop was heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. Just when you think you have to go through something alone, lots of people show up with hugs, flowers and wine. And you know what? Sometimes you just have to go through the crappy parts of life no matter how hard you try to avoid it But what seems like will be the worst is actually not as bad as you think. There is always light at the end of every tunnel — this much I know.

This tee has a dual meaning as I had planned to wear this on our last day at bloom because of how true it is: c’est la vie — that’s life. Sometimes good, sometimes weird but it’s still my life and for that I’m grateful. The other meaning to this shirt? We are going to Europe on Friday, as in 3 days from now. B and I decided very last minute to join some friends who are going to Spain and France because…VACATION. I mean it took us two seconds to agree to this trip and say ‘goodbye savings, hello, time off.’ I’ve also never been outside of the United States so this is extra exciting for me. We are going to Barcelona, Madrid, Paris and all around Italy — any recommendations for a first timer?
Again friends, thank you for sticking this out with me. We are moving everything out of the shop this week so I’ll probably be a little bit back-logged with the blog / instagram / life. But thank you for sticking around in the meantime.

  1. Hello! If you've ever seen FunForLouis on YouTube, him and a few of his friends are roadtripping around Italy atm and I think his vlogs would both make you happy and give you some ideas about what you can do around there, it looks so beautiful and I'm so sure you'll have a wonderful time! Enjoy yourself! πŸ™‚

  2. Have a wonderful trip, Kendi! I truly hope it's a fantastic, rejuvenating time for you both! πŸ™‚

My favorite thing I did with friends in Paris was seeing the lights on the tower at night – gorgeous! My suggestion: grab some chocolate croissants and some bubbly and have a picnic on the Champ de Mars (lawn area with a perfect view of the Eiffel Tower). Relax, watch the sunset and see the tower light up – it's spectacular!

  3. Take a guided bike tour in Florence. It's fun at a slow pace, interesting and gives you a good overview of the city and where things are located. They include a gelato stop, which makes everything seem even better;) If you are adventurous, there is a company in Venice (Venice Kayak) that does guided sea kayaking tours in the canals – by far my favorite thing we did in Italy. I agree with the Cinque Terre recommendations- stay in Vernazza.

  4. I visited Barcelona last October and I loved every minute of it – so here are a couple of recommendations I hope will be useful:

Book tickets online before visiting the Sagrada Familia (and Parc GΓΌell, for that matter). Trust me, I thought it would be fine if we just showed up there at 9 a.m. In the morning and bought our tickets on-site, but the throngs of other tourists proved me wrong and we ended up frantically searching for an Internet cafe where we could book and print our tickets… And trust me – the Sagrada Familia is so worth a visit! It might not look that all that beautiful on the outside , but the interior is simply breathtaking.

As far as food is concerned, I would highly recommend visiting the Mercat de la Boqueria, just off Las Ramblas. It's a huge market with tons of fresh produce and some of the most amazing seafood I've ever tasted. Try some tapas at Pinotxo (with a glass or two of cava, Spain's famous sparkling wine) or enjoy one of the fresh juices.

And speaking of tapas, you should definitely pay a visit to Tapas24 in Eixample, run by one of Spain's most famous chefs. The "Bikini" sandwich is amazing!

Never, ever eat paella for dinner – a local told me and my friends that this is a thing only tourists would do πŸ˜‰ the best place to eat paella for lunch is the restaurant 7 Portes. Plus, their sangria is great, too.

I hope you have a great time in Europe! Such a shame you won't be visiting my native Germany though.

  5. So glad you're going on vacation with friends! Do you read Aspiring Kennedy? She has great European travel tips! http://www.aspiringkennedy.com/ My favorite things in Paris (aside from the obvious) were the City Museum (free and pretty), mussels, macrons at the tea shop across from the Arc de Triomphe, and falafel… hmm, mostly food and looking at every gorgeous thing.

  6. The only advice I have for your trip is to unplug and enjoy it. You deserve it and you're lucky to have that time away, after having to deal with struggles. Don't Instagram and don't tweet, just enjoy.

  7. You're picking a great time to come to Spain! The weather's been super lovely but the tourists's aren't here….yet! I just came back from a week in Barcelona and loved the heck out of it! A few things I'd recommend checking out: La Boqueria/La Rambla, for sure! Mercado Encants is super interesting, Arc de Triomf is just beautiful for a walk, heading over to the Olympic area is really interesting as well. The buildings in Barcelona are all ridiculously stunning, so even just a casual stroll is a bit of an adventure. Madrid is less touristy than Barcelona. For shoe shopping, check out Chueca. Malasana is great for little cafes, bars, independent shops, etc. The Temple of Debod is great to watch the sunset, but get there early because it gets early. If you hit the palace and the Sabitini gardens before, you'll be right in the area. All the museums in Madrid are free on Sundays, if you're here on a Sunday. Reina Sofia is interesting for contemporary art, especially a lot of Spanish work. Prado is more classical. Both are quite close to each other and the walk to each is lovely. A picnic in El Retiro is necessary.

I hope you can find something of use in all that and I can't wait to see/hear about your trip!

  8. Kendi, you are really someone to be admired. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. Have a wonderful, well-deserved time in Europe!
