So this weekend I dropped my phone into a glass of water and didn’t realize it for a full two minutes. That 120 seconds was just long enough to fry my phone’s battery so I’ve been without a phone for two days. Would you like to know what I got done in those two days? A LOT. Our house is clean from top to bottom. We have food in the house because I went to the grocery store. I walked the dogs. Read a book. Found a cure for the common cold. Of course you didn’t know any of this because I couldn’t tweet about it. Sad, right?

I did log on to Pinterest last night and I guess there was some sort of bug or glitch because  I was following zero people and zero people were following me. This is when I panicked and yelled to my husband ‘why is everything falling apart??? This is what i get for ruining my phone!!’ He just looked at me, blinking slowly. He did not respond, as most level headed people would not respond to the crazy girl screaming about Pinterest and a dead cell phone battery. (His head tilted even further when I tried to connect the two tragedies.)

So what I learned this weekend was that I need to turn my phone off more. Not necessarily destroy my phone, but just take a break every once in a while and some things done. Of course, Pinterest will shut down because apparently the server lives on my phone but I think that’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make.

On a side note, this is not a dress. I fooled you; this is actually two pieces that are just meant to be worn together in order to look like a lady who lunches. Yes, I’ve fooled you guys into thinking I’m a lady. Man, I love the internet.

(PS: totally should have named this post after the Spice Girls throwback song “Two Become One”. Missed opportunity right there, Kendi.)

  1. I am sure you hear this all the time, but fashion is not your greatest talent… witty writing is :)!

  2. oh love how this is a two piece! You can do so many different outfits then! It’s astonishing how much you do get done! I went to grad school in the UK and didn’t have data on my UK phone and had to be connected to wifi on my US phone to get anything like pinterest, etc. I would often go to this really old cafe on campus to work and read and they didn’t have wifi. I always got ALL my work done, it was glorious! x

  3. And now the Spice Girls are in my head. I am guilty of not turning my phone off, EVER. But I actually do like when I forget it in the car on my way to dinner. It’s a sign to do it more often for sure.

  4. Hello Kendi! This is probably the first post of yours I’ve read and I must say I love the way you write and I shall certainly be sticking around! I totally agree with you – as I’m still at school, my parents take my phone away during the week and I must admit, at first I would object but nowadays I gladly oblige. It makes me feel a bit less tied because it feels like even if I don’t do anything, it’s too easy to find something to do and it’s sad. I should be reading more. I love it.
Take Care Kendi and thank you! 😀

  5. Love this outfit Kendi! Thank you for the Spice Girls reference…it made my Monday!

  6. I love every piece of this outfit! I thought that was a dress until I read the post! Clever 🙂
That bag is amazing and the best part, affordable!
I went on vacation in January and even though I had wifi access I chose to keep my cell phone off the entire week. Let me tell you, I did not miss it once. Although, of course, that could partially have been because I was on a tropical island and easily distracted :).

  7. This made me smile 🙂 didn’t destroy my phone but have been trying to leave it behind or forget about it on purpose just to get a bit more done. It’s amazing how much time we spend on this little screen! Lovely 2 piece 😉

  8. it does look like a dress! i love the sheer trend, and this outfit is great because it’s still not too revealing and very feminine! -jill

  10. I’m not too sure about the Spice Girls, but as soon as I saw your post title I got Tom Jones stuck in my head…”She’s a lady, woah woah woah she’s a lady….”

  11. That Spice Girls song is gonna be stuck in my head now. But I’m cool with it. I’m also cool with this faux dress business. Very cool. You might even say it’s crazy sexy cool. Oh wait, different 90s band.

  21. I had the same freak out last night about Pinterest too. Aaand my iPhone is dying on me. The two are definitely connected 😉 Love the separates-becomes-dress!

  22. Oh the Spice Girls! Realized as an adult how racy that song was for my fifth grade self to be listening to! On another note, I really love those wedges!

  27. I know you feature BaubleBar a lot & I was wondering if you/anyone had issues with the quality of their jewelry? I’ve bought a couple pieces that broke after one wear & they wouldn’t refund me or send me new ones, and one of my BFFs had the same thing happen… I’m hesitant to buy from there again or to recommend to anyone else.

    1. I’ve had 1 or 2 pieces break on me, but I guess I blamed it on my ability to destroy anything delicate. 🙂 I learned in the shop that pretty much all costume jewelry is going to break at some point, so you just have to be careful with the pieces you pick (i.e. the super intricate ones will ALWAYS break. Learned this the hard way by stocking a whole jewelry case full of them.) I’m sorry to hear that they wouldn’t refund you though 🙁 You gotta shop where you like and feel comfortable with, I totally get that!

  35. Very cute. Love your story. I think we all need to disconnect from the world every once in a while. Love your outfit. It would look great with nude panelling underneath it as well.

  36. First off, your hair looks BOMB DOT COM. Did you dye it recently?

Secondly, my cell phone fell out of my back pocket and into the toilet while at work one day. My completely non-creative boyfriend can’t take pictures for shit, but he’s a genius at technology and cars, so he fixed it. But as he was fixing it, I definitely started crying and saying that my life was falling apart. So, I totally get it.

  45. Yellowstone Jackets is an immersive and addictive series. It shows that there are genres like Neo-Western and that they are as strong as ever. It gives an old Dallas vibe, but with a much stronger, more grisly realism. Credit to Tyler Sheridan for coming up with such a masterpiece. Characters in the series are complex, intelligent, and extremely loyal (with the exception of Jamie). Cole Hauser (Rip) and Kelly Reilly (Beth) are talented actors. All their efforts led to the ultimate success of the series.
