Truth time: I’ve never really put much effort into Valentine’s Day. Actually I don’t put much effort into any holiday. On one hand, I’m rarely disappointed. On the other hand, my poor future children will have to fend for themselves when it comes to anything besides birthdays and Christmas. My kids will be the ones that show up to school with the weird Valentine’s that no one wanted because it was the only box left at Wal-Greens from the night before. Their Halloween costumes will be store-bought. Easter baskets will be non-existent. It’s not that I have any hard feelings against holidays, and especially not against the day of love, in fact I like holidays — it’s just that I don’t know — I’m lazy? Apathetic? Busy? Cheap? Tired? Absent-minded? Terrible at things that include feelings? Yes. Yes to all of the above.

All that to say I had full on plans to wear the cutest pink dress and look all Valentines-y, etc. But we’ve been running full steam ahead since getting back last Friday night and I’m just tired. The thought of putting a dress on today made we want to pull the covers a little bit tighter and postpone Valentine’s Day until I got more sleep. So I compromised with a little bit of pink today. Not quite a full on Valentine’s post, since I forgot to make my hands into a Taylor Swift heart in one of the photos, but still full of love. Love for colored jeans,  love for you guys, for full cups of coffee, my husband’s sunnies to hide the bags under my eyes, for the fact that I still have time to become a better person before I produce offspring. See? Totally full of love today, as misplaced as it may be.

Happy Valentine’s Day, friends. May gifts of chocolate be plentiful today and if not, remember it shall be 50% off tomorrow.

  4. Lol. So what if you didn't wear the pink dress, you still look great! And besides the colors of your outfit are sweet so they work as Valentine inspired.

  5. 3 reasons i adore you.
    1 – your style
    2 – you're like, really, pretty.
    c. you are one of the few fashion bloggers who can actually write!!

    xo the egg out west.

  6. Oh Kendi, I share your sentiments about holidays exactly.  I always wondered if there was something wrong with me, but now, since I know I'm not the only one that feels this way, I can rest assured that I'm not a careless and heartless old cow.
I had to laugh because your "Valen-tired" outfit is similar to the oufit I chose to wear on this begrudgingly lovely occasion (except I went with gray pants and coral shoes because it's not quite Spring in Canada yet).

  7. Best commentary ever!  I don't get all into holidays either (although I think it would be a lot of fun!) but I do love the idea of Valentine's Day.  I hope yours is great!

  8. Don't feel too bad. I'm exactly the same way. My boyfriend got lucky that his girlfriend fails at being "girlie". Plus, holidays require effort, and after a trip like that I'm surprised you had any energy to post today! Happy Valentine's Day!

  9. This was spot on, Kendi.  Yes to all of the above for me, too.  Although, I do like decorating the house.  Decorating myself?  Not so much.

  10. well this is so cute. i especially love the bag. target is such a winner!

  11. Well, you look adorable on this Thursday! Who the heck needs a holiday to wear a pink dress, I vote wear it tomorrow! Friday is a good a reason as any! 😉

  12. Totally understand how you feel. I put on a pretty dress this morning before I realized it is February and the ground is covered in snow and all I want to wear is boots and sweaters. Why can't Valentine's Day be in march or april?

  14. Super cute purse! I loved that one when I saw it at Target but I decided on a tan one that was only $8 on sale. My best friend and I always wait until the day after Valentines Day to buy each other candy because everything is usually 50% off!

  15. I just want to put it out there that the I learned about the hand heart from the Japanese pop scene years before Taylor Swift.

And cute outfit!  Love the pastels!

  16. 'still have time to become a better person before I produce offspring' is one of the single greatest and encouraging phrases I've ever had the pleasure of enjoying regarding the 'to offspring, to not offspring, o when o when to offspring' debate.

  17. I think you look gorgeous – when I'm tired, I put on sweats and a t-shirt. Your outfit is so bright and sunny!

  18. haha love the post!! (: happy valentine's day! Lovely outfit!

  19. Our Valentine's is posted inbetween our anniversary and my birthday!  Needless to say it's not a holiday that's much celebrated in our house too. We had take out 🙂

  20. I'm not very good at dressing in the holiday "colors." I wore black (with a bit of blue) today but we still had a great time! In my defense, if it was a bit warmer, I may have been more inclined to wear my pink/peach-colored dress. I like your take on the day!

  21. As I was scrolling down through your pictures, my husband walks into the room and asks whose legs those are. I say, "Kendi's" and he said "Kendi Everyday?"  You're famous enough that my husband knows of your blog and he doesn't even read mine.

I only wore workout clothes today and as I read this post I looked down and it seems that my pink tank top was on top so I wore pink on Valentine's day purely by accident.

  22. I totally fall into that category of every store bought for my son.  I say – I would rather spend some QT with him than work on arts & crafts for his little friends.  Plus, my crafting skills are horrible so why waste my time when I know it's just going to the trash 🙂

I love this combo & how you make this Target purse look like a million bucks!

  23. This is a great way of wearing complementary colors…which can be hard to do without looking "team spirit"…the shades of soft apricot and light blue are just darling together!

  24. 50% off. Ahahaha! What a great parting comment. I always tell my husband to wait until the day after to buy me chocolates!
I always love your blog, Kendi. I read your entries to my husband all the time (he's a secret fan of yours too). Wishing you the best, Alyssa B.

  25. You are so flipping adorable. This is my favorite blog – thanks. (and your future children will be fine – mine are surviving just fine. 😉

  29. Your blogs are always so well written!
As for this outfit, I love it, I especially love the pairing of these pastel colours. 🙂

  30. I can't figure out how to navigate to other pages on your site.  I can't find any "Older Post" or "Next Page" buttons.  Help!

  31. love the polkadot shirt with the pastel pants- great combination! i just started my own blog and this post makes me so excited for spring time!

  32. Haha! I had a good little giggle when I read your post. I completely agree though… this was the first year that I did not buy my Valentine's for my students the day (or morning) before. I am sure they were much happier with fun dips than Pokemon leftovers. Cute outfit! Love those pants!
