A few weeks ago as I was innocently browsing J.Crew (it always starts out innocent), I found this pleated faux leather skirt and loved it the second I put it on. I loved the length and the structure of the pleats — a lot of time pleats have a tendency to not be flattering but in this faux fabric the pleats work.   Plus, I’m always a fan of faux leather. Give me it to me in jacket, skirt, bag or dress — I’ll take it. My only hesitation with this skirt was what to wear with it. But within a few minutes I realized how versatile this skirt can actually be — it’s really just a fancy black skirt and we all know how easy a black skirt is to style. But in case you might feel like a faux leather skirt is a challenge, I decided to take that challenge on and style it three different ways below.

You simply can not go wrong with a basic plaid button down in the fall — may it be with denim or a faux leather pleated skirt. (This skirt comes in navy as well which would be a knock out combination with plaid, too!) Have plaid, will travel…to J.Crew.

Graphic tees have somehow gone from novelty to essentials these days. I say this as I look at my folded pile of many graphic tees. But they are easy to toss on and style, especially with the right pieces. An easy update to a denim jacket and graphic tee look, this skirt fits right in to this outfit.

There is that special few weeks in the fall (especially in the South) that you can get away with bare legs and a sweater. I plan on taking full advantage of that weather when it comes. I love an oversized sweater paired with a mini skirt or skinny jeans; it’s a casual but classic look. Plus I love that I can easily take this skirt with me into winter, add some tall black boots and I’m set for the cooler days.
Honorable mention pairings: chambray top and a classic white button down. Those two always mix and match perfectly with a leather mini. Of course there are infinite ways to style a simple black skirt, or even a not so simple skirt — leave some of your style thoughts below!

  1. Would love to know how the sweater runs (ie if i normally wear a medium and want to wear it big should i buy a large?) NEED it!

  2. I literally have three faux leather skirts already in my closet and yet somehow you have convinced me that I need this one! Love every single look here 🙂

  3. Loving all three of your variations, but it’s probably because I really just love the skirt. If I HAD to chose just one, it’s probably your first look. Nothing beats plaid in the fall!

  4. Thank you for not making me pick a favorite because these are all amazing. You are sure to make a million $ in commission off this skirt because we all totally want it now!
