I almost had Kate Middleton hair today but it was ruined by the wind. Other things ruined by high winds in the history of the world:

buildings
bridges
houses
small trees with breakable limbs

So I guess it’s fine that just my hair was damaged today. But still. I was this close to becoming royalty. This close.

To solve my yesterday blah’s I had a pint of frozen yogurt and a beer last night. (I do not recommend this combination. It was an experiment that I’m still waiting to see the effects of.) I also decided that today I would dress in as many variations of purple and red as possible. No better way to beat the blues than by calling it purple.

In fact, I’ve decided that if my outfit were a color scheme of paint colors this is what they would be:

11.17.10imsillyMaybe I should write sarcastic paint names for a living. You guys, I think I’ve found my calling.

  1. I just love your humor. Thanks for your style, inspiration and humor. You're making my days brighter during this storm in my life. Keep it up!

  2. I want that job too. Do you think it's a committee? Because serious discussions over naming yellow buttered popcorn vs new york taxi could get very heated.

P.S. I love purple and red together.

  3. 1) I love this outfit
    2) Doesn't Kate Middleton have the best hair ever?
    3) You should just write names for OPI nailpolishes – it sounds like it's right up your alley!

  4. I think my response to today's outfit went something like this "ughohahh" which is a positive thing. Beautiful! Love the colors. You inspired me to be colorful tomorrow!

  5. you kind of look like Kate Middleton! your color names are hysterical… i don't know why, but the color purple made me laugh the hardest… i agree with Ashley, OPI would love you!

  6. This outfit is adorable! I love that you mixed to many colors – you prove that it doesn't have to be scary at all!

  7. Kate Middleton hair…haha! She DOES have amazing hair, lucky girl!

Love the outfit! I've been following our blog for a while and never commented. But I have a pink skirt like this, and those UO shoes are on my Christmas list, so maybe I'll ring in the new year with an outfit like this one! Keep blogging, we love it!

  8. Thanks so much for the birthday shoutout, Kendi!!

And you look gorgeous in the ruby/amethyst jewel tones. Still feeling the subtle royalty vibe on you in these colors 😉

  9. I love the colors! They look great. I'm still scared of playing with color in my own wardobe, but this is inpiring me to mix it up a bit!

  10. I was wondering if you enjoyed your frozen yogurt and beer mixed together… or separately? I could think of some good beer/froyo combos. It might be a great miz if you had some plain ol vanilla froyo and a fruit flavored beer (which I don't typically like but might go well with frozen yogurt)?

I love the "OMG Red" name. Congrats on finding your calling! I'm still working on finding mine. I worked in an architecture firm for a little while, and always dreamt about funny paint names while I was browsing the samples. I'm really productive like that. 🙂

  11. Frozen yogurt and wine would be my choice. But you know what else sounds amazing? Deep fried cookie dough…

But anyway. I'm too scared to mix colors, its something I need to get over. I think you mixed a perfect cocktail of purples and reds here. Kudos!

  12. I would have never thought to put all those colors together but you pulled it off so well! I think Plumberry Fantastic is my favorite, haha.

  13. i love all the rich colors and it's perfect for the fall weather! and if your paint naming job doesn't work out, i'm sure lots of nail polish companies would also love your ideas! 🙂

  14. When I launch my clothing line (HA!), I'll call on you to name the shades.

This is a gorgeous grouping of colors. Kudos for going neutral-free!

  15. oh this totally reminds me of the poem, 'when i am an old woman i shall wear purple with a red hat that doesn't go.' but in an altogether good way. because for realz, why wait until we are old to wear whatever the heck we want! and spend our pension on brandy and summer gloves 🙂

  16. Kendi, I started following your blog because I love your easy business casual style. Sorry if that's not what you were going for, but it's how I describe it 🙂 While I was excited to hear about you leaving your job, I was also worried that your style might change to something straight up casual. Today I was pleasantly surprised to see you rocking an outfit that could be worn in any business casual atmosphere. So, thanks for not completely changing, though I'd completely understand if jeans were worn on days other than Friday now 😉

  23. I knew Kate Middleton was gorgeous but hadn't paid much attention to her hair until I read this post right before an ad for a Royal family Dateline special came on. Good grief! That woman's hair! Beautiful.

  34. WOW. The Kate Middleton vibe in this outfit is AWESOME! The moment you mentioned her name I could see her wearing this…or you being her…or something. Either way, I love it!

  35. your hair's pretty kate middleton to me! if she wasn't contained in a vacuum! 🙂 but really, pretty hair as always.

  38. Ok first of all, I LOVE those red heels! I know they're from UO-are they as vivid red in real life as they look in the pic? If so, do you know the specific color? I have the same shoe in a couple colors…and I ordered the red but it turned out to be a very faded almost coral color….

    Thanks!
    -Lauren

  44. I took a break from studying (at the local super trendy coffee shop) to read todays post and ended up laughing out loud at your list of other things ruined by the wind so now I have about 20 hipsters who were enjoying studying in the quiet solace of indie music and cool vibes now glaring at me because you made me laugh.

i hope you are proud of yourself.

P.S Love the color scheme. I chose black and various shades of purple and gray today but i love how the red looks with your ensemble.

    Much love
