As I’ve always said: it’s not fall if there isn’t an abundance of plaid around. Every day is Plaidurday in fall. In fact, I’m not even shy about my love for plaid — I just pile the plaids right on top of each other. Plaids are the by far the easiest layer to wear — may it be this top under a sweater, as a scarf, under a jacket. The plaid layering limits do not exist. Only your ability to wear that many layers. I say stop at three layers of plaid because after that you’re just showing off.

I’ve loved seeing more softer shades of plaids too, like this soft grey and my charcoal and blush scarf. It keeps my look from being too dark and heavy, perfect for fall to winter winter. Doesn’t this weather just make you want to be outside all of the time? B and I have resumed patio weather basically every chance we can get. It’s so perfect here in the evenings so we try to find a happy hour with a patio to enjoy the cool evenings. Another perk of plaid? Perfect for a casual date night on a patio or for exploring on the weekends. There is simply nothing plaid can’t do.

  1. Gah – I always love seeing your outfits with open-toe booties/shooties or these open toe mules, but when I try some on in-store, I always feel like the style lops my legs off even when they are nude color. 🙁 I’m 5’4″ so a bit shorter, but dang, I really want another comfy shoe option besides the laced booties and boots for fall/winter! Maybe I’m just not used to the style… Argh!

    1. So I tend to find ankle booties or mules, like these, to be the most flattering when they have a dip in the front. These are a great example of the dip I’m talking about, I find them to be most flattering when it hits below your ankle as opposed to right at the ankle. Because you’re right — that’s when your leg looks shorter than it is! I also find that a lighter color is the most flattering over a chunky black. I hope this helps!

    1. Do you have any tips on tying the scarf? I cannot get mine to look right. I have some from Amazon, but I dont know if they are just too short or too wide, but I dont like the way they drape when I wrap them around my neck. The way you have yours is perfection. I just ordered two of the Old Navy ones, and I hope that maybe it is just a size issue, and I am happier with the way they drape better.

  2. Hi, I love this look! Would you say the ON shirt is true to size, or oversized? I’m debating ordering a small vs. medium. What size are you wearing? Thanks so much!
