Although I’m always happy to share my outfits, every once in a while comes a piece that I am absolutely giddy about sharing. I couldn’t wait to get this post live today because this jacket is everything a jacket should be for spring. It casually mixes my favorite silhouette (the trench) and my favorite pattern (stripes) like it’s saying ‘guys, it’s no big deal’ while silently nodding that yes, I’m a big deal. I mean, are you kidding me? Who is trying to send me a love letter from Madewell right now? Because I accept, but also I’m married so this will have to be purely platonic and material based. Dreams coming true over here in the form of a jacket. (That is how I know I’m in the right profession; the level of giddiness surrounding a trench jacket is embarrassingly high.)

I don’t even think I blinked from the time I saw / grabbed / checked out with this jacket. I went into full on Black Friday mode. Some people have electronics, I have striped trench jackets. And I knew exactly what I would pair with this jacket for my first act: my floral blouse. A trusty floral blouse and a surprisingly easy striped trench makes the perfect almost March outfit. I can already tell this is going to be a fabulous (and striped) spring.

  15. This coat is so good, it’s insane! You’d have been crazy not to pick it up. Does it fit true to size? I have manly shoulders, so if a jacket’s too tight, I go nuts.
    (Enough with the puns. ) It looks great on you!

    1. It’s actually a little bit looser than true. I’m in the medium and almost feel like I could go small because of the fit on the shoulders. (This is an uneducated guess — I didn’t try on the small, as I’m like the most universal medium ever so I just grabbed it knowing it would fit.) Of course I’m wearing this with a thin top, so if I layered a sweater underneath I’d be happy with the medium. All that to say, I too have broad shoulders and feel like this fits me no problem. I totally get your jacket too tight on the shoulders annoyance! It’s the worst.

      Side note — do we feel like Madewell’s sizing has been getting bigger lately? I’m not mad at it, but I should not be a small.

      1. Oh my god YES, it has! Makes it hard to work out which size to order from overseas. Bought a sweater that turned out to be a tent! A pretty mint coloured tent, but still… >_< Thanks for this, I really appreciate it!

  17. Madewell can do no wrong, but ESPECIALLY when it comes to stripes! I was in Madewell just yesterday and my heart skipped a beat over a striped dress, and then I realized I already had a nearly identical dress…also from Madewell. Somehow they switch it up juuuust enough to make the new one a little more special.

  27. It’s a damn good coat, that’s for sure. I just bought a white on navy striped trench from The Limited so I don’t *need* it, but I might need to sale-stalk it.

    The tortoiseshell buttons are a lovely touch, I may need to upgrade the buttons on my coat…
