Last week my mom and I headed up to New York for the Ladies Home Journal conference that I spoke at. And by spoke I mean I ‘umm-ed’ my way through a 30 minutes speech that ended up being 20 because I talked so fast out of sheer nervousness. Usually I’m good in front of a crowd, but for some reason I was back in 6th grade giving a presentation in front of the class. I mean it was fine, but you know. The good news is my mom was the hit of the party; it’s always nice to have a mom to fall back on.

Since I didn’t have my sweet photographer with me, we didn’t get outfit photos while away but I did instagram like a mad woman. It’s always awkward to come back to an outfit shoot after you’ve not taking photos for a few days. I’m usually kind of stiff and I forget what I’m doing with my arms. Which leads me to this apology:

To the sweet ladies who caught me mid-photoshoot: I apologize for looking at you like you were crazy prophetic wizards when you asked if I was taking photos for the blog. Although, the deer-in-the-headlights look is typically always there, I’m usually full of more words other than “uh-huh…how did you know?” Thanks for saying hi and sorry for the awkwardness that is my life.

  1. Love the sweater! Funny note…I totally wore this sweater in middle school in the 80’s…I had it in red, turquoise and in yellow. #SoNotMyColors #FifthGradeFashionista

  2. You are stunning, Kendi! What a great outfit. I’m a little jealous that it’s warm enough to wear that, since I saw snow flurries for the first time today in Minnesota.

  3. Is it weird that my first though on this outfit was “daaang girl!” Haha you’re smokin dear. I love the sassy mini skirt, buy of course you always keep things classy with a great top and accessories!

Mustard & Purple? Never would have thought this combo could be pulled of, but you did it and always continue to inspire me to be more risky 🙂

  5. I’m sure you did just fine at your speech! And I agree, Mom’s always know how to help after it’s all done!

PS. I tried that skirt on and wishing I had purchased it now! Looks great against the mustardy-yellow color.

  9. Love your skirt! I still remember the first time I ever spoke in front of a huge audience… in a different language, no less. I was shaking so bad, you could tell if you looked at the mic. But I loved it and haven’t stopped since! So glad you did it.

    1. When we first started taking photos and for about two years, we would have to go behind walls or wait until cars fully passed beforeI could pose. Now I have no shame, but it took a while to get there. 🙂

  18. Could you do a tutorial on how to do that tuck? I love the half tuck but I can't seem to master it!

  19. Gorgeous top! And I understand the blog photo thing… I am so awkward while standing there posing. I'm hoping it gets easier with time. 🙂

  20. That outfit is super cute – I love that sweater with the skirt. I don’t think you look any kind of awkward!
I know how it is; every time I’ve done a presentation in front of a LOT of people, I freeze up. It’s something about the difference between, like, 10-15 people I see pretty often and 30 people I’ve NEVER SEEN BEFORE. You’d think I’d be MORE relaxed, since I’ll probably never seen ’em again, but noooooo. Katie’s brain no work like that.
Instead I speak at the speed of light, possibly faster than that. I may actually enter Warp Speed in situations like that.

  21. Your amazingly beautiful and I hope you are in your happy place it always help with our gloomy days.

  22. Love the sweater and your skirt. Such a cute look. I know what you mean about the outfit posts and how it’s awkward when you get the stares and questions!
