Throughout the year I notice that my makeup changes as the leaves change. In the spring I want bright lips, in the summer I want light, effortless makeup and in the winter I want darker eyes and darker lips. But fall is one of those transitional seasons that my makeup seems to go in between. I’m not quite ready for that dark holiday or winter look yet, but I want to wear a bit more makeup than my summer look of glossed eyes and lips. I’m not ready to leave the dewiness of summer makeup behind, instead I want that autumn glow — dewey skin, darker eyes and more dimension.
I’ve teamed up with Laura Mercier and the new Candleglow Luminizing Palette to bring you one of my favorite beauty looks for fall — light, effortless and perfect for the transition of warm to cold. This palette has everything you need for a year round dewey look, as if you are always in candlelight. If you’ve got ten minutes and a mirror, then I’ve got some beauty tricks up my sleeve to share with you! Read on below.
I started with a fresh face, then moisturized, primer added and then foundation on top. Nothing fancy, just normal foundation as you typically would. I then add my concealer generously, and I mean that — I create a 1 inch area around the bottom of my eye and leave my concealer there for a few minutes, without blending. This lets the concealer warm up and it becomes easier to blend. I use Laura Mercier High Coverage Concealer and it always does the trick, especially if I let it ‘warm up’ to my skin first. It has unbelievable staying power as well.
Once I blend in my concealer, I usually have a little bit left on my blending sponge. I take that amount left over and fill in any red spots I might have around my nose or any blemishes I’d rather disappear. This concealer trick acts like a highlighter without getting too complicated or product heavy. Win-win.
From here, I take my Laura Mercier Baked Blush Bronze and I follow my cheekbones (or where you’d love your cheekbones to be) from ear towards my mouth, stopping just at the end of my cheek. I create a pretty heavy line (see below) but don’t worry, we will blend everything in. Blending changes everything.
So now we blend, blend, blend! I blend in a circular motion down, towards my neck. You’ll be amazed at how quickly the color blends in and dimension takes shape. I also take the Glimmer shade from the Laura Mercer Candleglow Luminizing Palette* and brush it lightly over my blended in contouring. It gives a nice shimmer and adds dimension to my face. After all, we want to stay as light and dewey as possible!
For my eyes, I start with a light colored eyeshadow, Laura Mercier Matte Eye Colour in Vanilla Nuts, is one of my favorites. I use this over my whole lid and in the crease of my eye. I then take a little bit of a dark brown shade and lightly press it into my eyelid crease. Since we are going into fall and winter, this gives my eye a little bit more dimension and depth than what I wear in summer months.
I blend in my darker shadows with the eyeshadow options in the Candleglow Palette* My favorite is the Spark shade, it’s a pretty shade of pink and it mixes perfectly with the ivory and brown shades. I blend these together to create a soft eye.
For a little bit more shimmer, I add in the Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Rose Gold to the top of my lid but underneath the crease. I very lightly rub the shadow in. Then I take my pencil liner, the Laura Mercier Kajal D’Orient eyeliner*, and line two thirds of my lash line and a third of my bottom lash line. This pencil is great to use for a smudged look, but with this look I like to keep it clean, so a simple line works perfectly. Apply mascara as usual.
The next step is giving your cheeks a bit of color. Using the Radiance shade in the Candleglow Luminizing Palette I apply to the apples of my cheeks. This color is light, bright and shimmery so it doesn’t take much for a dewey effect.
These last two steps are my secret weapon: I apply my Laura Mercier Foundation Primer Radiance on top of my makeup after I’m finished. This primer has a hint of glimmer to it so it brings out the dewiness of this look. I apply to everywhere that light would hit — the top of my forehead, top of my nose and the apples of my cheeks.
Then I use my blending sponge again to lightly blend in my primer. It will feel light on top and it dries pretty quickly. Then just to top the look off, I add in a bit more blush from the Candleglow Luminizing Palette* and voila! We are dewey-fied!
Here I am just wearing the Laura Mercier Lip Glace in Bare Baby, for the utmost dewiest look. But this look can easily translate into a more fall look or nighttime look with the change of a lip.
I added in a darker lip and feel instantly ready for holiday parties. Even though I’m nowhere near ready for the holidays. Shame on me for even bringing them up so early. I used the Lip Parfait Creamy Colourbalm in Iced Pomegranate for this look.

  5. This is very adorable! However I don’t recommend using this technique if one has many blemishes or scars (i have really bad scarring due to burn like symptoms from an adverse reaction to medication) – I find that staying matte is definitely for those of us that have any type of “imperfections”. Highlighting is definitely a trend, but it’s not for all of us. I think that the cheekbones are a great place for highlighting however – anywhere else is just very glossy looking. Not a good look for some.

I love the contouring though! I can’t get enough of bronzers (which help with any blemishes for sure!)

  6. I love Laura Mercier products! I just hate the prices. I try and buy products one at a time so it’s not so expensive. Makeup is one thing I am willing to really invest in.
