FAQ's

First off, I never in my life thought that I would need a 'frequently asked questions' page that didn't involve "do you know where I put my keys?" But alas here are a few answers to some questions I'm asked from time to time.

Photography

Who takes your photos? My husband, Bryan. It's what he does. Literally, he's wedding photographer.

What kind of camera does that sweet husband of yours use? He shots with a Canon EOS 5D Mark II Camera and a variety of lenses. His favorite are the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 Lens and the Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 Lens.

How do you edit your photos? Very carefully and very quickly, my dear. I use Adobe Bridge and Photoshop CS4 for all of my edits. I usually just do a few basic adjustments and sometimes I use Totally Rad Actions. I use Photoshop and this guy to draw my arrows and label my outfits, as well.

What time do you take photos each day? Typically we will take outfit photos after 5 p.m., since the light is best then.

Outfits

Do you really wear those outfits everyday? Yep! If you see it on the blog, I wore it that day. And if you don’t see an outfit on the blog, I went bare naked.

Since you work from home a lot nowadays, is it hard for you to get up and get dressed? No, actually. Sure I have my days when I’d rather stay in bed and not do a thing, but those days are going to happen regardless of where I work. At my last job, I could have worn jeans every single day -- heck I could have worn sweat pants -- and no one would have cared. But I took it upon myself to dress nice every day because I wanted to present myself as a professional, something that a lot of people didn’t see me as because of my age. I also figured out that I feel better and work better if I take the time in the morning to get up and get dressed. So I still abide by the same philosophy: I get up each morning, shower and get dressed and go to work. I don’t need the ten people that used to see me each day to justify looking cute.

I like your red lipstick! Where can I get some like that? Oh friend, you just march on over the Sephora and hand over your $15. We’ll get you some red lips. The brand is Sephora and the color is It Girl. Hint: Be sure to use chapstick before you apply the lip color. It’s not exactly moisturizing.

Blogging

I’m new to blogging. Can you give me advice on how I can grow my blog? I’d say the best thing you can do is to write what you know and enjoy it. Do not worry about the numbers. If that’s why you started a blog, I don’t know if readership will ever be guaranteed. Gaining readership is a great goal, but that should never dominate your blog’s motivation. Instead, start a blog because you have something to say and you have a unique point of view (as everyone does). Create a blog that you think the world needs and be happy posting on it, even if no one in the world ever reads it.

The second best thing you can do? Be an active member of the community! Read, comment and enjoy the community out there.

How did you make your header and side buttons? I use Photoshop CS4, a tiny bit of creativity, and lots of coffee to create all of the graphics on my blog.

Will you look at my blog and give me some tips to make it better? Honestly YOU are the only one who can make your blog what it is. I am only an expert on what I do, just as you are to what you do. So make a blog that you are proud of and don’t worry about it. If you like it, then no one else needs to.

I need help with posing! Any tips? Do what feels natural to you, first off. If it feels awkward, it probably looks awkward too. Also, flip through catalogs or magazines and find a few natural poses that you can mimic. A good pose is basically anything that draws the eye to the photo and enhances your outfit. So try a few new ones out and figure out which ones you like the best then use them over and again. That's what I do -- and no one has complained about the repetition yet :)

Who made the sketch in your header? http://www.vizbasix.blogspot.com/

Etc.

Sometimes you post links to items in underneath your photos, but sometimes you don’t link everything you are wearing. What’s up with that? If it’s available online, I will link it. If it’s not, I won’t simply because I can’t.

How much do you spend each month on clothing? It is all dependent on the month. Some months I can spend more and some months I can’t spend any. I go with the flow and spend smartly when I can. If we have a tight month, I set aside a few bucks to go thrifting. If I’m able to spend a bit more, I try to wait it out until sales. But there is no magic number I go to each month.

Are you pregnant? No. But I have been working out lately, so maybe it’s my rock hard abs.

What does swap mean? If I've "swapped" and item that means one of two things: I've traded some pieces from my closet with pieces from a friend's closet or I've gone to a swap where many people bring many items to have a free for all swap. It's one of the best ways to get new-to-you clothing for free. (Visit swapaholics.com for swap info)

And what about 'Thrifted'? 'Thrifted' just means I bought the item at a thrift or second-hand store for something ridiculous like $2.

What does "c/o" stand for? "C/O" means "courtesy of" which is followed by a store or brand. This simply means that I was given this item, free of charge, to wear and to keep. Most of my courtesy of items come from my sponsors and absolutely all of the items I was able to choose to fit my style.
