It’s true: I’ve found a new boyfriend. One that fits better, can be dressed up or down and doesn’t give me as one reader put it ‘diaper butt.’ Oh and yes, boyfriend jeans not an actual boyfriend. I’m obviously off the market for a boyfriend (hi husband!) but I am always in the market for denim. As I spoke my boyfriend jean woes last week (and found a new to me denim style), Old Navy showed me the way with their new boyfriend fit — it’s the skinny ankle boyfriend. 2015 is looking up with these newfangled denim styles, my friends. Skinny boyfriends are where it’s at if you still want the boyfriend look but don’t want all that extra denim. And these come all the way down to the ankle which I love because sometimes I’m just not feeling the crop.

And I actually find this fit much more easier to style. Boyfriend jeans have always been a staple in my closet, but this feels like an upgrade. This cut feels a bit more refined and polished, I mean possibly husband jean material.

Speaking of boyfriend styles, I like the idea of borrowing from the boys a few style pointers. I get slightly jealous sometimes at the simplicity of my husband’s closet. A lot of menswear pieces have that classic feel to them, so I like to use that inspiration when putting my own looks together. For instance, this field jacket and oversized button downs toughens up the look but with heels (or heeled booties) it is perfectly balanced. I’ll borrow their denim and tops, but I think I’ll keep my heels.

    1. The white ones are really stretchy and I sized down for them so to escape the saggy butt problem! So far they don’t seem to give me diaper butt but I’ll keep you posted. #breakingnews

  1. I love these looks! I don’t own a pair of boyfriend jeans and need one because they look great, super flattering, and easy to dress up. And I LOVE that blue top – it looks gorgeous!

  2. I must admit, I’m a bit jealous at how good Old Navy pants look on you. I can NEVER get them to fit right. Either way too tight or way too baggy.

    1. So I try on all the sizes there. I am never one size at Old Navy. In the white jeans I sized down a whole size and in the blue ones I’m true to size. But I takek a size up, my true size and a size down into the dressing room and I’m never afraid to buy what looks right. Yes I’m sweating by the end of the dressing room marathon but usually I can find what fits. Hopefully this helps! Oh and this edition of boyfriend jeans (especially the white) have super stretch in them so that helps!

  3. How strange is the sizing malarkey of jeans at the moment? Do you find colored denim harder to buy? I keep finding the fit on traditional blue denim is a lot easier to find than colored! Also I just wanted to tell you that I have never read a post of yours and thought, diaper butt! haha keep rocking those husband? jeans!

    1. Girl, you are reading my mind! I’ve given up trying to be one size in denim because it just doesn’t work! and yes colored denims fit is always a little off — i suspect the dyes and bleaches they use?? Who knows. Oh and I’m glad diaper butt has never crossed your mind. That’s why I don’t photograph from the back. 🙂

  4. Great outfits! I just wondered how you found the cut of the shirt? I hate too much fabric for tucking in 🙂 xx

  5. ON jeans are never long enough for me. i wear a 4/6 and generally they don’t sell long lengths in their specialty pants. maybe you can put in a good word to them for us long-legged gals 😉

  6. Love these jeans and that they still have the boyfriend style without all the extra fabric. I think this is a great option for women with more athletic or curvier body types. Let´s face it, we all don´t look like an Olsen twin and not all of us can pull off the super oversized denim look, but these are great!

  7. These look so great! I was just at Old Navy and I didn’t see these at my local store. Bummer. Are they a low-ish rise? I had a baby last summer and I think I need to wait a few more months to feel comfy in a lower rise. I’m such a fan of my Rock Star high rise ON jeans tho!

  8. Love your outfits! I was actually inspired by your previous ON sponsored posts to try their denim, and I actually ended up buying two pairs b/c they fit so well. Score! BUT one of the pairs is black and I’ve noticed that the fabric (or dye?) smells truly horrible. Has anyone else noticed this or have a suggested remedy? I’ve already washed them once, but to no avail.

  9. Look at that, ON finally is getting it right. I guess my search for the perfect boyfriend jeans this spring will not be too hard- these jeans look great on you. Love the white pair, definitely will have to stock up!

  18. Amen! I just bought the “girlfriend jeans” from GAP which apparently is the new boyfriend jeans. I think they’re similar to this – not quite as tight as my skinny jeans, and mine are cropped – but less sloppy looking than the boyfriend jeans.

  22. Amen to boyfriend jeans! The extra room is so much more comfy. Sometimes I just don’t feel like squeezing myself into skinnies and then peeling my jeans off every time I need to use the restroom. (which may be more often than I care to admit) 😉

  28. LOVE the white! Such a simple but sophisticated way to update the BF jean. I know that typically you have to size down for BF jeans; thoughts on the Old Navy ones, Kendie?

  29. I love anything from Old Navy and you rock all of this! I love the color of that dark washed chambray shirt! I especially love the army green field jacket and brown booties! You have the best style!

  33. I see the madwell tote in your posts periodically, does it hold up well? Do you find its not too big to use as everyday bag? Been eyeing lately but, still thinking it over before purchase.

    1. It does! I’ve had this one since 2012 and I love it. It still looks nice and honestly I haven’t done any upkeep on it (Which I probably should so it will last even longer!) It is fairly large for everyday but I like it when I’m traveling or if I have a busy day and I need to take all my things with me. It’s a nice investment if you’re looking for a good everyday bag 🙂
