Thank you for all of the kind words about the Redbook award! You sure do know how to make a grown woman blush like a school girl.  I slept with a smile on my face like a creepster last night. So thank you again, your kindness means a lot.

These shorts. These are the shorts that I put in my cart, took out of my cart, put in my cart, took out of my cart for the entire duration of the Nordstrom anniversary sale. I (obviously) ended up taking the plunge on the very last day. Once they arrived, I knew I made the right choice. I’m kind of on the ‘shop for fall’ kick right now so I’ve been drawn to mainly fall pieces anyways. I’m always on the fence when it comes to shorts in the fall. For me it works because Texas is hot until it’s not, you know what I mean? So I like the tougher feel of these shorts that definitely make them feel like fall. Plus I think that I’m into the tights under shorts thing again this year. I go back and forth with that trend each year (last year no) but this year I’m back with it. But let’s not talk about tights until we have to okay?
In my searching, I did find a few other options that give a leather look but aren’t necessarily leather. Coated denim gives a great leather look with more stretch and a lower price point.

I also ended up browsing through Nordstrom’s Via C collection while I was contemplating the purchase of these shorts. Via C is their contemporary designers collections, I don’t usually find myself hanging around that department but I ended up finding a few things that I’d love to put on my high hopes list. (It’s like a wish list but with higher expectations.) Below I pulled a few of my favorites:

  1. I love that top and pretty much every outfit you've paired it with! I totally agree with you on the shorts/tight combo – I may just have to bring it back again this year. I'll be trying to rock shorts till December down here in Texas!

  2. I just bought a pair similar to this from Mango (but mine are "faux" leather) – now I need to drop a few lbs so they fit perfectly – ha! 🙂

  3. Such a perfect combination!! I'm so in love with that top, and it looks gorgeous on you 🙂

  4. I've never been a fancy shorts girl. I'm all about either a classic denim cutoff or some sort of cloth for comfort. I love this look though. I think you're right-those shorts are the perfect blend of fall/summer, a great transition piece! As for tights under shorts, I am the same way, each year I change my mind about how I feel. Most years it's no, but perhaps that's just because I'm not quite sure on how to pull of the look

  5. You are seriously amazing at mixing high/low. I'm sick of reading blogs where the outfit is worth over 2k (including outrageous handbag). While the outfits are great, (and I'd love to wear them) they don't fit my grad school budget. But you rock it every time. Love your style.

  6. I love this top! It is so sweet and the pairing with the shorts gives it just the right amount of edge! Hope you have a great day!

  7. You are killing it with this outfit – absolute perfection! I adore your style and your beauty (inside and out)!

  8. Kendi, I owe you such an apology. I left such a degrading comment yesterday on your Redbook post. I had so right to respond so negatively. First of all, congratulations on making it as a winner. 2nd, please ignore negative people such as myself leaving a comment like I did. I need to keep my opinions to myself and if I don't have anything positive to say, I should just shut-up!! Please accept my apology. I truly am sorry!!

  9. Are you missing the giant camel toe? Not only is that not a good look on anyone but it's damn uncomfortable. There's no need to call anyone a bitch especially since nothing untrue was said. Take a step back and calm down.
