Outfit five is in the can. I never actually understood that expression. I also do not know if I used it correctly.

So this sweater is my 30th item! Pretty huh? I pretty much don’t want to take it off. It’s one of those “I feel luxurious but I don’t have to suck in because it’s slouchy” kind of sweaters, so in other words: the perfect date night or high school reunion sweater. It’s also perfect for playing hooky on a Friday afternoon. B and I are headed into the city to go see an afternoon movie and catch a happy hour. That catch? B has to work tomorrow. But it’s okay because we still feel like we’re getting away with something.

You know what we didn’t get away with? Taking these photos today in a public park. We totally got caught. This is my “I got caught, but I’m still adorable right?” smile. Nervous, yet endearing. Notice the I don’t know what to do with my hands so I tuck them under things move. Always classy.

  1. ADORE! You look so classy and comfy at the same time! Shop Mamie has really cute stuff. 🙂 And these red pumps kind of make everything perfect.

Have fun in the city with B! 🙂

  2. Totally comfy chic – and I HATE getting caught during photos… so embarassing. We need to learn to give the "what? I'm not weird you are" look… but for now your I got caught look is adorable 🙂 hugs

  3. I love those red shoes! I totally understand the "getting caught" aspect…my roomie takes my photos in our apartment complex courtyard area and we both giggle nervously when people gawk!

Also, thank you for coming up with the 30 for 30 challenge! This is my first time doing it and I really think it has changed my perspective on my closet and put confidence back into my ability to remix and style outfits.

I'm grateful! Hope you enjoyed your movie!

  4. I believe "in the can" refers to a finished film and what it is stored in. I think!

Cute and comfy outfit. Love the sleeves.

  5. i love the somewhat oversized nature of this sweater and it's absolutely perfect for a casual friday. and you always look so cute, especially when you don't know what to do with your hands! 🙂

  7. Ohmygosh! I HATE that! It's so awkward, but they you make eye contact and stare them down and then THEY'RE the only ones feeling awkward. haha! Have fun on your lovely 'hookey' day 🙂

  8. Beautiful sweater and I love the pop of red color with the shoes too! It's so funny about taking pictures isn't like? It's like we are trying to hide something even though other people probably don't think twice about seeing us getting our photos snapped. Silly girls. 🙂

  9. I think Monica's right about "in the can" referring to putting a finished film in one of them metal canisters.

Also, that sweater makes me want to get one, wrap myself in it on a cold day, and drink a really big mug of hot chocolate.

  10. Kendi, I check your blog everyday. You are so pretty! I also randomly check the other blogers, but you are the best one!

  11. I totally just wrote about getting caught at the park yesterday in my post. But I didn't look as cute. Also, I was going write about casual Friday too. Eerie. I'll think of something original.

  12. I hate getting "caught" in a photo shoot.

My friend has convinced me to try and take photos tonight at a restaurant- yikes!

  13. Is that a batwing type sweater?

I was going to ask you and other bloggers what do you do when people "catch" you? I've found pretty discreet locations, but eventually… I'm going to look for different areas, which might be public, and it makes me really nervous.

  14. what a great outfit! totally casual but totally cute!!

in the very few outfit photos i have taken in public, i get extremely shy and nervous to be caught!

  15. Slouchy sweaters are the best 🙂

I really love how much the red shoes stand out against the rest of your more toned down outfit. You're making me think I need a pair of red shoes, too!

  16. i like how casual-chic this outfit is! replace the heels with flats and i'd wear this in a heart beat anywhere! (i'd keep the heels if i was going somewhere fancy!)

  17. Very cute (and comfy) outfit for the weekend! Your photos always look amazing. I am so scare when taking outdoor pictures. I started to run as soon as I hear footsteps 🙂

  18. love the slouchy sweater. i included one in my roundup at the last minute, and i'm glad i did. i pretty much get caught every single time i take photos outside of the house… not many private, secluded locations in nyc. i usually just give people the stare down and they keep moving along.

  19. i just love slouchy tops too! and i hate getting caught while taking photos…i always try to do the awkward "oh we're just hanging out" look…i don't think it works. haha

  20. cute look! Love the bright heels and definitely a huge fan of the cozy sweater…I don't have anything quite like that, but it would be nice addition to my wardrobe!

  21. Very cute Kendi! I love those looks that a beautiful and comfy (no sucking in required!) at the same time. I love the shoes and hoce bright blue pumps for my 30 for 30 because I knew if you could rock these, I could make blue work!

  22. I can't get enough of those red shoes. They just add a little something extra to every outfit you pair them with. The new sweater looks super comfy. 🙂 Enjoy your weekend!

  23. Your 30 for 30 challenge is so inspiring! It has made me look at my own closet in a much different way. Super cute look today!

  24. Yep "in the can" is from the film biz. As in, the movie is finished and in the film canister (do they still use film?)
I'm doing the 30 for 30 for this first time this round, and I think I neglected to plan for casual outfits. Oh well, next time!

  25. I love everything about your outfit today, the pop of color in your shoes, the slouchy sweater and jeans. It's perfect! Have a great time.

  26. Your blog literally makes me laugh out loud every time I read it. You're super adorable & I like your nervous-yet-endearing smile. (: That sweater looks sooo comfy.

  27. I the heels transform it! I'm so surprised that you got nervous of being seen! That makes me feel better 🙂

  28. I get caught ALL THE TIME because I live in Manhattan and there's just no where you can go and be completely alone. I have a similar sheepish smile that I flash to onlookers. At least Brian is there! It's just me and Julio jr. (my tripod).

  29. I just wanted to say that I love your blog, your style, and that you photos are absolutely the best of any style blog I've ever seen. Seriously wow on the lighting.

  30. Super cute outfits!
I love the fact that you circulate pieces in your closet. It's definitely style inspiring to me. Thanks!

  31. those are the perfect kind of sweaters and a great 30th piece at that 🙂

i hope you guys had fun while playing hooky. just think, it's already the weekend! 😀 1/5 down!

  32. A similar thing happened to me last night, I was stood by my campus building and because of the gorgeous architecture my boyfriend wanted to get a far away shot of me and the building. It was already raining lightly but we weren't too concerned. Then the heavens opened leaving my boyfriend crouching in a downpour, me posing with an umbrella and both of us looking crazy…good times. 😀

I always love the ballet type flats and every so often I cave in and buy some and they never stay on my feet! Never! Do you guys have some sort of trick to keeping shoes on your feet?

  33. Your smile is adorable. And I've been eyeballing your cute red Urban Outfitter Pumps throughout many of your posts. Love them!

  34. Just wanted to let you know that I had been swooning over those pumps from UO forever but didn't think they would be versatile enough for everyday.. but after seeing how you make them work with so many different looks I mustered up the courage and purchased them!!! Couldn't be happier!! Hehehe.. Thanks for the inspiration!

  35. LOL, I really really want to start taking pictures outside, but I am SO CHICKEN that I will get caught! At least you looked amazing. This is just such a fab casual look. And those shoes are awesome.

  36. I have run out and purchased those exact red shoes. I'm mulling over a few more UO and Modcloth potentials, too. When friends ask why Christmas is lean this year (and why I look so fabulous), I'm blaming your blog.

  37. This feels so Ferris Bueller's Day Off in all the right ways! I feel comfortable and glamorous just looking at you.
