Here is Wikipedia’s definition of Indian Summer: (because we all know wikipedia is 100% accurate)
Indian summer is an expression given to a period of sunny, warm weather in autumn in the Northern Hemisphere, typically in late October[citation needed] or early November, after the leaves have turned following an onset of frost but before the first snowfall.

My definition of Indian Summer:

FREAKING HOT.
Seriously though, it was in the 90s today. Last week it was in the 70s. WTF weather? (dad definition for WTF: Wednesday Thursday Friday) So today my outfit got a mix of fall and a mix of summer. Also a mix of new (hello H&M in Chicago, remember me?) and a mix of old (and by old I only mean since July). If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times: I can not wait until fall arrives. Or until our neighbors stop their car from honking. It’s very annoying. Do you hear that neighbors that probably pirate our internet? Stop with the honking, we get it. Your ride is here.
Back to fall, what fall trend is everyone excited for? The reason I ask is so that I can be hip and cool like you guys. I would be nothing without readers to copy. Thanks for the tips in advance.

  1. AHHH! Love this look. Definitely perfect for Indian Summer (I live in Milwaukee, which had an "Indian Summer" festival this past weekend…I didn't get to attend and am still insanely curious about what on earth this entails). The scarf is gorgeous, and I'm wearing those sandals right now 🙂

  2. Hi Anon,
Thanks for the comment and the link to the article. I've read that article before, I think from Sal from Already Pretty. I agree with the article and never intended to hurt anyone or offend anyone with the photo or post. I hope to stay as sensitive as possible to the subject matter at hand, because it definitely is an important topic and issue.

I really am sorry that you found it offensive or uncomfortable. That is definitely NOT my intention. Normally I would not take something down because of someone's criticism or opinion since this is my blog and I reserve the right to post whatever I feel at the time or moment, but with that being said, I have taken the photo down. I still as always reserve the right to write whatever I want or say whatever I feel, but I agree with your comment and want to respect the thoughts and opinions of my dear readers.

If you'd like to email me to further the conversation, please do at kendieveryday@gmail.com.

    Thanks again! Kendi

  3. I absolutely LOVE you style! I never thought to belt a scarf like that, but I like it! If you don't mind I might have to steal that idea. haha. You are such an inspiration!

  4. Wondering if you would consider doing a post about your favorite make-up one day??? I love the clothes but I always notice your great make-up too! Love the lip colour/gloss you're wearing in this post. Great photos by the way!

  5. oh, I love this belt over scarf over dress look and may just try and rustle something similar up later this week!

Thanks for the inspiration (as always!)

  6. OK this may seem like a weird thing to focus on with so much fun going on with this outfit, but I don't think I've ever noticed you wearing earrings before! I think the geometric studs are a perfect pairing to the printed scarf.

  7. The fall trend I'm looking forward to … animal prints. I already have a pair of leopard print platform heels from Nine West. Although as I get older and remain single, the desire to wear leopard on anything but my feet diminishes. Rawr.

  8. love it!
what I look forward to in the fall: thick colored tights, knee high boots, hats, more boots, military-style jackets…eating more and covering it with chunky sweaters.

  9. Another winner! Wish we were having an indian summer here, it's far too chilly for my liking. Chunky knits, boots and berets are what I'm looking forward to. I love the way you've made the scarf almost a part of the dress, the colours all work really well together as well. Loving your little injection of H&M!

  10. I am loving this adorable outfit. I have yet to master the scarf/belt thing you have going on here, but I may have to try it today.

As for fall trends I can't wait to get back into cardigans and corduroy. I'm also hoping to crack the socks with heels look without making myself look super short and stumpy.

  11. I hear ya on the heat. I don't think of it as Indian Summer but more as continuation of Texas summer!

  12. I can't wait to wear my new Atlee skirt from J Crew. Yippeee!! Perhaps today is the day, hope it's not to short for a stay at home mom!

  13. i love the idea of belting your scarf! nice job

as for autumn looks, i'm just excited to be wearing all the comfy warm stuff again. and layering! i love layering. and i really want to try socks with boots withour looking like a complete dork

  14. This really, really, really makes me want to go find some more scarves.

At least you had a reprieve from hot weather with your "in the 70's". It's been HOT in Florida. Just hot.

Like, to the point where our house ends up being 83 degrees in the afternoon because our AC just can't keep up with the heat.

    HOT.

  15. I'm seeing more and more of the scarf into belt look, and I think I need to take the plunge. It's very cute on you.

I love Charming Charlie's! What's not to love about color-coded accessories, really?

(And it's going to be 90 degrees here today. I want fall! Is that so much to ask?)

  16. The braid is so cute. It goes so well with the ensemble. A Charming Charlies just opened up by me. Pretty cute. I am excited to shop there.

  17. You look great! Wonderful light in these pictures too. I really like this for a summer>fall transition. It's so hard when the weather keeps flipflopping! I mean, you can't completely put your summer things away, but you also can't break out all the sweaters…so annoying.

  18. i just talked my mother-in-law into buying me an early birthday present. BOOTS! Can't wait to wear them. I'm also thinking I'm going to go for the jeggings. What do you think about those?

  19. you are hysterical – I love reading how you write like you're talking to us. honking cars annoy my too, try living across the street from a fire station. Yes, they go all night.

I'm ready for boots -nothing new but always good to put on that first pair for the first days of fall! oh and I love gloves too.

  20. from the Anon… I wanna know what the last photo is that you took down, ha. Ok, it is still Boob Sweat hot here in the Bahamas and while trying to dodge hurricanes left and right, I cannot wait to put boots on. Booked my flight to Chicago for next month and will eb rocking my OTK boots (had them for 3 years now) yippie!

  21. I definitely believe you aren't trying to offend anyone in your blog posts. Also, the belted scarf look is tough for me to pull off (I have a larger chest), but makes me wish I could when I see it on you!

  22. hi kendi! i love your blog and i love this outfit, it's kind of perfect for september!

i always look forward to your daily outfit updates – so inspiring! (:

    linley

  23. i'm dying over that gorgeous scarf! it's the perfect scarf for belting and i love the print! this outfit is inspiring me to do something with a scarf today!!

  24. I like how you paired the scarf with the dress. It completely changes the look. And probably covers stains really well! haha

  25. Love the belted scarf. I am seeing that more and more this season and have been itching to try it. Now all I need is a skinny belt. LOL – Katy

  26. Question: if you didn't have a blog do you think you would have ever belted a scarf down? Just curious. I dress pretty conservatively and sometimes I wish I was more daring. The fact that I have started a blog with my outfit posts and have told NO ONE (until this second) shows you how undaring I am. Not even my husband knows. That is a tricky situation but I'm waiting to tell him- don't ask me what I am waiting for. I should tell him cause then he'd take better pics for me than my timer. Oh no…now I'm rambling. Back to the belted scarf…would you have worn it otherwise?

  27. Hahaha, that's my definition of Indian summer too. That's what the past 90 days have felt like in Atlanta. Blech.

  28. HI Ashlovely — great question. While I do take more risks for my blog that I never thought I would, I probably would have belted the scarf regardless. I've seen a few other bloggers belt their scarves and honestly, I just liked the way it looked. Everything I wear on my blog is truth, if that's what I wore that's what you'll see. 🙂

It's definitely been a leap for me as well though, taking risks with style. It takes a lot of bravery to wear certain things, but you never know if something works for you or not until you try it.

And by the way — be proud of your blog! It's such a great community to be a part of. And yes, you should definitely tell your husband. He'll be excited for you, I'm sure.

    best of luck!

    Kendi
