8.3.10cHonestly, I debated on posting this outfit or not. For one I did not wash my hair yesterday. Sometimes this works out (see #21), most of the time it does not and I end up by 5 pm looking like I haven’t showered in days. Secondly, (sekendly?) my hair looked like a hot mess in about half of these pictures which then lead to a fight with my husband as to why he didn’t tell me I looked disheveled to which he replied with his big green eyes “but you always look beautiful to me.” My raging hormones decided to wage on and fight it out until we ended up with about 5 photos that I was actually smiling in. (Romantic statements like that have never made me a quitter.) Thirdly, I don’t know if I can blame the actual outfit or my sour disposition yesterday but I just wasn’t feeling spectacular, stunning, the best outfit ever. And you know what?

That is okay.

My husband kindly reminded me of this: “Kendi P. Everyday [this is how he addresses me, always] not every outfit will be your favorite. Not every outfit will be a reader’s favorite. But that’s not what this is about, it’s about creating wearable outfits out of what you have.” He hit the nail on the head. It’s unrealistic for me to think that every outfit I wear will be my favorite, every single day. In fact, on this side of yesterday, I actually like my outfit a lot more than I was giving myself credit for. I would wear that outfit again.

Sometimes you just need a little push and a good dose of perspective. Cherry-flavored perspective though, I hate it in pill form.

By the way, I’m a total robber. I’m also a speeder, a defensive driver, and an all around rule-breaker when it comes to traffic laws.

(I didn’t label it but yes my necklace is from Anirtak. I’m sorry but I bought the last one. You can win one though…or just wait until the end of August when she puts more in her shop. I know, I’m so selfish.)

  1. I'm a bigtime lurker, but I just have to say that this is one of my favorite outfits you've posted, actually!

  2. I like this outfit. The color combo is lively and the scarf and necklace make it interesting. But I totally get everything you wrote about being in a bad mood and not feeling it. Happens to me all the time! My husband pulls the same "you always look beautiful" line as well and I don't fall for it either 😉

  3. Honestly, I didn't even notice your hair until you said something about it, and even now it looks perfectly fine to me. I really think that unless you haven't brushed in two days, the only person who'll notice a bad hair day is the owner of the hair. 🙂

I really like this outfit; the scarf and the top are gorgeous together, and with the white trousers the whole look is really clean and fresh.

  4. Super cute outfit…love the play of colours!
And I WISH my hair looked that good without a washing!
Isn't it amazing what husbands can say sometimes?!

  5. i'm a new reader… and this is by far my fav outfit you've worn so far. I like its simplisticness w/ the pop of funk in the scarf. But isnt it amazing that when you don't feel good… you just don't feel good. You look beautiful though!

  6. I totally love this outfit!

I also think that random irrational tantrums are OK, I have them on occasion, I just throw things!

  7. I love this outfit. Especially how you used the scarf. Personally I never thing to look at square silk scarves when I'm shopping. I only ever think of scarves as forms of warmth. Thanks for the reminder! If you get a chance check out my blog.

  8. Laughed out loud at the (sekendly?) and love the outfit. I have a lot of my grandmother's scarves that I have no idea how to wear, so maybe I'll try this out.

  9. i absolutely love your outfit. i think i need to hunt for the perfect paisley scarf now!

i also love the way you incorporated the scarf into the whole "robbers" theme with the lariat. so precious!

  10. I love this outfit. I just logged it under "look I really need to try". I've been trying to find another way to wear scarves and you totally helped me.

  11. I think you look fantastic! That green is a great color on you and I love the addition of the scarf.

I do understand what you are saying, though! I have days like that myself! 🙂

I'm going to give 30 for 30 a try. in the process, I think I'm going to move all of the other items from my closet into another one to see how well I can stick to it!

  12. I really like this outfit! I'm sure it was more your mood yesterday then the actual outfit itself. I had a few days like that in my 30.
Looking back I liked all my outfits but one (it wasn't awful, but meh) and I really loved a couple of them.
I am excited to finally be done though!
I wrote up a little thanks & how this challenge has changed me on my blog so if you're bored please stop by and read it. You've really inspired a lot of people.

  13. that's funny because when I first saw your pictures I thought you looked gorgeous and started duplicating the outfit in my head with my clothes! ha!

  14. You look gorgeous.
I love all the fun colors of this look, I especially loooooove your scarf!

It was so true what your husband said about this fashion blog. Some days I don't care about my outfit, but I guess they can't all be winners. Thank you for those words! 🙂

  15. You are just so CUTE! Your hair did not look dirty at all, and that scarf really made the outfit. Well done, no matter how obscure this fact was to you!

  16. I absolutely loved your outfit. I think that green looks great on you…it compliments your skin tone. You do a great job of "remixing" your outfits. I look at your outfits everyday with envy wondering why I can't put togetehr outfits like that.

    xoxo

  17. I hear you Kendi – not every outfit I post is a favorite either – or, I'll start out the day loving it and then as the day goes on and I take pictures and look back at it, I end up wondering, what was I thinking? But I'm glad you shared your outfit, for it is really, really cute – love the colors, the styling of the scarf, and the lariat necklace!! And kudos to being on #23 of the challenge! You're making this challenge look like no big deal!

  18. Kendi, I really love this one! But I totally understand how you were feeling during the shoot. Sometimes the outfits we think we hate end up being perfection, though.

And thanks for the inspiration on a really cute way to rock a scarf with a tank! I'm probably stealing this entire look sometime soon. In fact, I think I have items in my version of 30/30 that will work.

  19. even though you were not feeling spectacular, I think the outfit looks great!!love the scarf colors and how it brightens up your face.

  20. I don't remember the source or the exact number (which really kind of defeats the point of statistics), but I read somewhere recently that like 85% of women said they feel poorly about their entire image when they think they're having a bad hair day. Most of us probably love our outfits a lot less on hair hang-ups days, too!

  21. I doubt you'll ever look anything less than pretty in a pic even if you have not washed you hair for a week! 🙂 love the scarf on this!

  22. I love all your outfits! If you smudge in a little baby power in your hair when it looks a bit greasy, the baby powder will hide it!

  23. Oh, dirty hair is the bane of my life. Sometimes if I havn't washed it that day it's fine when I leave for the morning… but a total disgusting mess by lunchtime!

But you do look beautiful! That scarf is gorgeous with that top!

  24. the irony is that I just ADORE this outfit… AND I think your hair looks great. Not just sayin' that either. You look fab! Today I was yelling at my kids mid-picture taking. Edited out the bad ones… it could be worse!

  25. Just have to say that I love the outfit, especially the scarf. I wore my white jeans today (I think they're the same ones you're wearing!) and I only wish I looked that tall and lithe in them.

  26. funny because when i opened up the page, i thought "i LOVE what she's doing with the scarf" and "kendi looks great in bright colors!"
i agree with your very wise husband, too. in fact, sometimes i like seeing outfits that are a little "off." maybe it makes me feel better about my own off days, or maybe it is just a more realistic representation of a regular girl and a regular closet.

  27. Hey hey! Thanks guys!! I like this outfit too. I was much too hard on her. 🙁 And yes, praise the good Lord for husbands. I'd be one lost puppy with him.

  28. Thanks for the shout-out on your round-up, Kendi! And personally, I think this outfit is a winner, that green top looks so cute with your scarf. I just figured out this week that scarves are a good way to make some of my lower-cut shirts a skosh more work appropriate.

You're getting so close to the end of your 30×30, have you made any wishlists for the fateful day when your shopping ban is lifted? Since my birthday is next month, I've started using that as an excuse to substitute real shopping for window shopping – and sending lots of Anthro links to family and friends (and strangers…. and customer service addresses…. and Santa….)

  29. You hated this outfit and I loved it. I was surprised when I read your comments. That scarf if just delightful and doesn't green make everything look better?

  30. I like this outfit. I also couldn't tell about your hair. I even read about your hair and scrolled up and looked again and again to figure out how it was messed up and I still couldn't figure it out.

  31. Everyone else has said it already, but you look absolutely GORGEOUS in these photos. The scarf is so perfect, and the whole look is comfy and classy and chic.

  32. Before I even read that you didn't like this outfit, I had starred this entry in my GR and made a shopping list with white pants at the top. I love it! Also, I LOLed at "Kendi P. Everyday".

  33. I love this outfit, and I feel like I need a teal shirt, because they seem to go with everything.

Gotta tell ya, I haven't posted any outfits this week either, just because I've felt so vanilla. I think it happens to the best of us. Glad to see you're back!

  34. I don't usually comment, but this outfit caught my eye. The colors are so classy and the shaping is nice. I'm sorry you weren't feeling well. It doesn't come across – you look in your element, as usual!

  35. ha…so i'm a bit behind in your posts…so i saw your roundup first..before this post…and i saw #23 and LOVED it…immediately in my brain tried to figure out how i could copy it…then i keep on reading and see your post on this #23 day and see that you weren't really inspired by it – yet that's the one i immediately went to in your week's worth. so i guess it's all in one's perception, huh? anyway 🙂

  36. kendi–I love the braid. In fact, I'm jealous of girls with hair long enough to pull off the braid. I probably have another 6 months to go before I can do it.
