8.4.10eTwo posts, one day. That’s what you get when I freak out, hesitate and post a day late. By the way, thanks so much for the encouragement — I don’t know what I was thinking either. I really like that outfit now, so thanks to you guys and my husband for the kind words. It’s true though — some days how you feel can project so much as to how you look at yourself. I needed a hug and a nap yesterday. I got one of them. Thanks for sticking with me through bad moods and all.
I’m really surprised by how fast this remix challenge has gone by. Outfit 24 and I’ve got so many more combinations spinning in my head and only 6 more outfits to go. Maybe I’ll throw in a few extra credit outfits in there at the end, just to keep you guys around.
I decided to wear my cardigan as a shirt today which was nice while I was in the office, terrible when I was outside in the glaring heat. One word: sweaty. I might wait this trend out until late October when it’s less than 1000 degrees outside.
Not to get all domestic on you or anything, but have you ever made something so disgusting for dinner that you can’t stomach it after one bite? Well this happened tonight and about halfway through dinner my husband asked if my stomach hurt like his did. Ladies, if your husband suggests that his stomach is upset 10 minutes into dinner, you should just start cooking with Pepto. If you are wondering what I dreamed up in my kitchen tonight, I’ve got a strict “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy when it comes to imaginary recipes.
The good news is I looked darling in my apron while cooking it and I’m off of kitchen duty for the next two months.
(EDIT: Guys — what is this?!? Is it a dead bird? A spider? A tarantula? Whatever it is, I ended up stepping on it. Guesses are welcome.)
(EDIT 2: It was a bat. Turns out there are a lot of them in this parking garage. Sadly, he is no longer with us. We think that the Texas heat probably got the best of this little guy.)

  1. Another great combination! I agree, perfect for fall…summer and humidity not so much!

I'm not very domestic either, everything I make is a remix (ha!) of the same basic ingredients over and over and over again!

So far I haven't made the husband sick (yet).

  2. I love this – mustard, white and blue work so well together! And you look gorgeous as per usual.

Oh dear. I'm cooking my boyfriend dinner this Friday, it's his 21st birthday – I really hope I have more luck….

    X

  3. hehehe! your story totally made me giggle. glad im not the only one who has a major flop in the kitchen every now and again!

  4. love the cardigan as a shirt, so cute! I admire your willingness to try it in this heat. It would be sweat stain city over here if I even entertained the thought.

also…is that a tarantula next to your foot??

  5. Once I made garlic soup. Seriously. No vegetables, nothin'. Just garlic. Everyone at the table immediately got up and threw their soup away, even me. Not my boyfriend. He slurped it up and asked for seconds. What a smelly trooper.

Also, cardigan as a shirt? MUST try!

  6. I made a pumpkin and black bean soup when I was under the spell of Rachel Ray, and I was surprised my husband didn't divorce me after that.

  7. I love this outfit!! And I must say, I absolutely can not wait to see what outfits you have in store for fall/winter!! I am so sick of shorts and tanks and heat!! I want skinny jeans and cardis!!

Now that's a keeper of a husband to keep eating it after 10 minutes!! 🙂

  8. I love the color combo on this outfit! Seriously!

Haha, I am a horrible cook. My husband is not picky at all (thank goodness) so you know it is really bad when he won't eat it. Sadly, I'm on kitchen duty every night for the rest of my life.

I finished the challenge yesterday! I still have more remix ideas in my head though too, so I might post more of them. 🙂

  9. Adorable. Just adorable.

I get bummed out when there is an epic meal fail. Often you put so much time and effort into the thing that doesn't work out that you end up burnt out on the idea of cooking after you've tossed it and end up eating 2 minute noodles.

Not that 2 minute noodles are without their charm but they don't really make a great consolation meal.

  10. i like to stick to vegetarian cooking… mostly because i am a paranoid freak when it comes to meat and fish. i ask my husband "is this cooked all the way through?" the entire meal. drives him nuts… and gives me nausea just thinking about eating raw meat/fish.
anyways, adorable outfit, as always. and i just have to say, your husband is the freakin' best for photographing you every day. what a guy.

  11. I love skirts with pockets and the title of this post.

My best friend won a milkshake contest with her pepto milkshake!

So did you guys go out to dinner? I love it when that happens after a terrible meal. It's like you tried but then you end up with a yummy meal after all.

  12. Yes. One time I made the worst snickerdoodle cookies ever. They tasted like rock-hard discs of flour. So I feel you. 🙂

I love the stripes and the yellow. Definitely a combination I will try ASAP.

  13. That third picture is the best. You are sooo cute! Like when you look at a honey bee's face close up and it's all adorable? That's just like you. Without the insect-ness.

  14. So…did you get the hug or the nap? I'm guessing the hug! Also, there's a large spider in the last pic-did you see it before you took the picture?

  15. Love this outfit, but OH I can only imagine it in the heat – might be terrible. You look fab though as always and keep inspiring me. I have to post #23 bt I'm feeling so unmotivated these days. I'd rather post about new things I'd love! I know I'm not getting the point of this exercise am I? 😛
Good way to get out of dinner duty! 🙂 As my hubby always says, "There's always cereal!"

  16. That skirt is so lovely! Ive been looking for a mustard/yellowish skirt for ages but can never find anything that i like, but i lovee that one!

Haha ive dont that hundreds of times! Thought it would be lovely to cook up something just thrown together for my parents, took one bite and thought eurgh! Not the best thing haha! 🙂

  17. I really like this outfit. So glad you're having a better day and that you've still got lots of ideas left. I love the mustard of your skirt.

  18. Yes, I've most definitely cooked meals like that, which hurts because I'm a pretty good cook…I think.

Love this outfit, but yes, I can see it more as a fall outfit than the hottest part of summer. With your intyce boots! Yes!

  19. I am absolutely loving this outfit. You just gave me so many idea for when I go back to work. I never though of wearing a caridgan as a top.

Oh, and about the cooking thing. I used to be just like you. I never stepped foot into the kitchen because I had no idea what I was doing. Then I started watching Giada on the Food Network and all of that changed. Her recipes are so easy to follow!

  20. Hahaha seriously WHAT IS THAT?
I think your toe touched it.
I hope it wasnt a spider because it looks HUGE.
omg I died a little through laughter but also the urge to vomit (spiders make me freak)

You should start a food blog documenting meals and then they can make a movie about it! oh wait that already happened…
I still think you should though. the header could be you in your cute appron. 😉
im going to look at that spider/dead bird again…

  21. on man, i love this outfit. it is for sure something that i would wear.
and i can sympethize with cooking a meal that was less than tasty…at least we try, right?

    amber

  22. Ohhhh… I LOVE this one!! I need a mustard skirt like yours and Tonya's (WWANW).

As for the mystery creature… my guess is some kind of spider-bat/ginormous mosquito.

  23. I like to solve the kitchen problem by simply not cooking.

    Ever.

My husband cooks. Though we tend to then order pizza or eat out a lot, which explains why we have no money and are steadily gaining weight.

    But whatever.

As for the photo? I will just say whatever it is, it's gross. Ew.

  24. Yeah, I don't really cook anything that's not from a box. I'm just not into it, and I just end up making a mess, and something that's not always entirely edible at the end of the day. I say cooking is overrated.

And the bug thing, kind of looks like a mosquito. :/

  25. OMG. In your label picture, you're totally stepping on whatever that thing is.

    It's probably a baby bird. 🙁

  26. I know how the dinner is. But for me it was a desert. I was trying to make home-made Thin Mints, and for the coating, I couldn't find semi-sweet chocolate, so I had to use bittersweet. I put a butt-load of sugar, and it still tasted horrible. My mom and brother loved it, but I couldn't even eat it. I hate it because I spent a long time on something I hated, but I learned that there is no substitution for bittersweet chocolate. :/

  27. I was so inspired by your sweater as a shirt look I tried it for work today! I did wear a cami underneath so I could take it off as soon as I left work and somewhat avoid a heatstroke in this weather. Thanks so much for the inspiration!

  28. OK, first time commenting; the utter adorableness of this outfit brought me out of the woodwork. The colors, the proportions, everything is just perfect.

And that thing?? It sort of looks like a bat to me. I hope you didn't get rabies! :-0

  29. WOW I love this outfit! Sailor stripes with the deep mustard yellow really compliment each other and the belt just pulls it all together. Love it! Love your blog! Keep on keepin' on!!!

  30. 1) I love this outfit.

    2) I feel your pain about the dinner fiasco. At least cooking disasters don't happen often (hopefully). 🙂

  31. EEEEEK!

I see him in some of the photos! looks like a wicked spider! glad to know it is a bat, because they are less creepy than spiders and it looks like you have your toe on him/or her in photo #2!!!!
