4.12.10I present to you outfit number 10. Which means that I’m 1/3 of the way through with my project. Not a penny spent, mind you. This is not the first time I’ve taken a vow of non-shopping and seemingly how we don’t have an endless supply of cash, it won’t be the last. It’s actually not as painful as my husband had hoped, but these sales (as seen here, here and here) have been making it hard.
Of course the lack of plastic in my wallet helps. You can’t spend what you don’t have. Rather, you can’t spend what you owe the government.
I woke up feeling like an adult today. This normally does not happen. I usually wake up feeling like a confused 16 year old, pissed that I have to do anything besides play The Sims in my basement all day (true story). But this weekend we cleaned out our garage and closets and got all kinds of organized. As a naturally disgusting and horribly messy person, I never knew getting organized could be this grand. But waking up in the morning and not stepping on a pair of heels and actually having a clean mug for coffee felt good. I think that I’ll choose to be an adult again tomorrow. One day I might even buy a house and have children. Well, maybe. I’ll stick with the clean dishes and organized closet for now.

  1. The stripes and floral are perfection. Then you went and ruined it all with the tutu*, but the shoes helped the outfit make a comeback and it ended up being fabulous!

*Ignore the ruinous tutu comment. That's just my envy over a lack of one talking. Apparently, my tutu should be green. Like my jealous eyes.

  2. I love what you are doing with this 30 days 30 items 30 outfits. I'm actually in the middle of a 6 month no shopping spree! Started on the 1st of January and have made it this far already! Your outfits are inspiring me to do more with the wardrobe of mine that hasn't seen anything new in quite a while. I look forward to what you put together for the next 20 days.

  3. I think I will try give up all my plastic next month. What a great idea! I agree with everyone, the stripe shirt with floral dress is perfection!

  4. UH-dorable outfit! Loving the mixed prints.

My new year's resolution is very much like your 30/30 remix, except I'm allowed to buy pre-owned clothing only (for eco-friendly purposes mostly)…which is difficult when looking for something specific…like a flirty cocktail dress to wear to summer weddings and such…or a pair of strappy brown cork wedges. Yeah, I'm pretty much screwed. But I'm making it work. Check out my blog if you ever get a chance. It documents the NYR, along with every other personal aspect in my life. Good times!

  5. Love the new blog header!

This outfit is adorable, as always. You are making me wish I had some tulle in my closet.

I also cleaned out/organized my closet this weekend. We'll see how long it stays that way…

  6. super cute outfit! love the idea of you adding your tu-tu under your dress! (is that allowed in your 30 remixes? lol) either way, i adoreeee your combinations!

  7. I laughed so hard at the whole being pissed that you can't play the sims. I remember when I was about 15, I played allll summer and then once school rolled around I was SO irritated for about a month that I couldn't play all day.

  8. Stripes and flowers- eek! Scary!
But of course they're darling. And the added fluff underneath is like the frosting on the cake.

As for being an adult, I think you should go the Peter Pan route. Never grow up.(But try to revert further back than adolescense if you can. I hear the pimples are terrible.)

  9. Congrats on making it 1/3 of the way! It's fun to see what you come up with.

I smiled when you made the Sim comment. I'm 19 and lots of mornings I wake up angry that I can't play my Sims 2 all day. Curse you real life!

  10. Love the pattern mixing you do it effortlessly. And how do you find such lovely places for picture taking, lucky lucky you 🙂

  11. I feel much the same way a lot of the time–I had today off from work and school and couldn't help but feel like I never wanted to do anything that required me to be responsible ever again!

I love today's outfit–the play on color and textures/patterns is just perfect.

  12. The first time you wore that dress I actually went to American Eagle to try to find it for myself. I had no luck so I will just have to admire your from afar. I like that you took so many risks with this outfit. Very few people would come up with the loveliness that is this combo of stripes, flowers, and tulle.

  13. I have totally been having that grown folks feeling. For me it's because my sweetie and I spent the last couple of days working in the garden/lawn. Who am I that I would be digging outside? Willingly?

Also, I am super impressed with your 30 for 30 so far. You are looking gorgeous as ever!

  14. Ha, Kendi, I love your posts. They're always so funny. I think we would get along well. 🙂 Love the layering in today's outfit. Nicely done.

  17. I love the mix you have going on! And all day Sim playing is so sadly in the past for me as well (but fun to think about).

    xx,
    Dee

  18. I like the skirt underneath your dress! Really makes it a completely different outfit… So pretty!

I never feel like an adult… I don't think I will ever feel like one though.

  19. Hey, hey… look who's all Mix Master now? Nicely done…
And high five to being an adult, I'll let you know when I get there…

  20. "I woke up feeling like an adult today. This normally does not happen. I usually wake up feeling like a confused 16 year old, pissed that I have to do anything besides play The Sims in my basement all day (true story)."

Uh, I think we might have been separated at birth.

  21. so cute, love the layers! i also feel like an adult when i've been productive around the house… doesn't happen too often though haha!

  22. Hahahaha, I'm obsessed (or rather I used to be) with the Sims!! I would honestly sit in the dark and play for hours.. and hours.. through the night, wake up and play for hours.. and hours.. hahaha! Now I replaced that with blogging. Bah! Love these pictures! Your 30 day mix inspires me completely!
