It’s no secret that I freaking love sweaters and it is FINALLY sweater weather here. Sure we are about to have a heat wave but enough about that negativity, I’m still going to be wearing my sweaters.

I try to wait for as long as I can before I buy up all the sweaters because I’ve learned that if I start too early, even cuter ones appear later in the fall season. Right now is actually prime time for sweater buying — all the sizes are there, the best colors are in stock, and if you buy them now you’ll get the most wear out of them. November through …okay let’s be honest at least March. I like to pretend the cold ends in February but I’m still reaching for sweaters and jackets in March. Now that I think about it sweaters are the bulk of what I wear each year. Well, then it’s a good thing I like them so much.

When I reach for a sweater I am looking for two things, besides the obvious warmth factor which differs for everyone, so I’m going to talk strictly aesthetics: 1) does it touch my body in any way? (the answer should always be no.) and 2) can I wear it with jeans basically every single day? (the answer should always be yes.) I’ve been around the block long enough to know that if you can’t fit at least two of yous in a sweater, then it’s not loose enough for the holidays. That’s why I love this sweater from Free People (and all of FP in general). There’s enough room for everyone at the Thanksgiving table underneath this sweater and that’s exactly how I like it. You can find this sweater here!

So since we are talking sweaters today, my game plan involves finding favorite sweaters in the basic colors of fall — black, grey, brown and a nice burgundy shade. Since I’m going to be in them for a while, it’s best to have the staples on hand. Don’t worry — I’ve already done all the work for you. Here are my four favorites from Nordstrom in those exact shades!

I, of course, also love a novelty sweater to throw on during a particularly grey winter day. The basics are great but sometimes you need a funky sweater. Here are my favorite novelty sweaters! (Love the leopard print cardigan. Leopard is always a neutral in my book, I mean just look at my shoes!)

Of course, a sweater roundup would be nothing without the best cardigans! Cardigans are having a moment this fall and I am here for it 100%. I’ve featured this camel cardigan before and I love it. I love a neutral cardigan to just toss on over a tee or camisole.

And my personal favorite shade of sweaters this fall is Gemma pink. Some will say it’s technically millennial pink, but I say it’s Gemma pink. Since this pink is basically the shade of everything she owns from her curtains to most of her onesies,  it’s only appropriate that I give this particular shade of light pink her name, right? Right. My favorite Gemma pink sweaters below!

The lesson learned today? You can never have too many sweaters. It’s just not possible, although running out of room to put them is completely possible. 😉

The sweater is oversized but I stayed true to size! I’m in the medium. The heels I sized up to the 11 (I’m typically a 10!). Listen to the reviews on that one 😉

Each month I create monthly capsules out of my favorite pieces, perfectly curated for each month.

  1. I swore I was done with oversized sweaters after last season, but you make an excellent point about the necessity for holiday eating! That and they are just so darn comfy. I love the look of the grey wrap front one. Thanks for the roundup!!

    1. Baha no I do the same by about February — I am DONE with sweaters and oversized and I just crave cute, fitted spring clothes. And yet here I am again… 😉

  2. I thought you cut your hair in the first pic and was gonna say that I loved it! If you’re thinking about getting it cut you should go for it 🙂

    1. Someone else said that too! I don’t know if I can let go of the long locks yet but that picture did tempt me… 😉
