Well, friends. I am officially in my 8th month. *praise hand emoji x 10* I don’t want to sound dramatic but I never thought I’d get here. That first trimester and a half was something straight out of Fear Factor and the countdown to her due date felt forever. I didn’t believe people when they said it will start to fly by but it truly has. I mean I still have a few more weeks of cooking to do but when I think about how close it is, it’s equal parts relief, excitement and nervousness. Okay maybe 5% more nervousness than the other two. But just a little bit more.

So since my last bump date, a lot of things have changed! All the things I was craving before? Gone. Seriously. I don’t know where they went but they don’t live in here anymore. Which I’m pretty grateful for because let’s be honest — the nutritional value of gummy worms is about equal to eating a cube of sugar. (But way more satisfying.) One of the things that I have been really proud of myself for has been walking 30-40 minutes a day a few times a week. I had friend after friend tell me to do this and since my second trimester this is actually something I’ve been able to keep up with each week. I typically hate exercise and let me tell you — exercising with a baby in here (points to lungs, bladder) is a lot more effort than I ever put in at the gym.

The thing that hasn’t changed? She moves all. the. time. She is SO active and it just has me wondering what kind of sport I will need to go ahead and enroll her in. B and I are both so chill, so if she comes out active she is going to be very bored with her parents. The good news is we are very good spectators and cheerleaders.

Sleep has now become something that I used to know. I don’t really know why but almost every night I wake up without hesitation at 4 am. And I stay awake. I told B this is just some good new mama training and learning how to be a good human and not cranky when I don’t get sleep. Since I’ve heard sleep is a commodity you can’t buy for a while, I’m trying to find the bright side. 1) 4 am is a great time to catch up on reading and 2) it’s very peaceful. For now. 😉

On my to do list, I have my hospital bag to pack, a few more classes to take at the hospital and lots of more diapers to buy. Of course I’m skeptical of the size because little newborn diapers are just about the cutest thing in the world, it’s hard for me to imagine a tiny human fitting into them. (Also — any thoughts on Kirkland (Costco) brand diapers? I’ve been buying Huggies but would love to go the Costco route. Thoughts if you have them!)

I am still over maternity clothes 100% but I do like this Isabel and Ingrid maternity dress. It’s versatile and comfortable for summer. (If you are looking for non-maternity, this Leith dress works perfectly!) I loved this kimono from Anthropologie and immediately thought this is going to be a great outfit and look? It’s one of my favorites this trimester and maybe this whole pregnancy. You just can not go wrong with black and a pretty kimono. This might be my look for the next few weeks. Oh okay this and off the shoulder dresses, let’s be real. I’m addicted to those things.

(oh and speaking of obsessed, look new slides! I am seriously addicted to leather slides. These are under $50!)

Overall thoughts — second trimester is by far the easiest and third trimester makes me very sleep. I’m not ashamed to say that when a nap hits, I hit right back. I am trying not to rush the summer but I am so ready to meet her. One step — or week — at a time right?

  1. oh i feel you so much on the random middle of the night wake ups. i’m always awake now around 4—but why!?! lemme know if you’ve read anything good 🙂

    1. I used to take 500-1000 mgs of magnesium when I was pregnant (before I went to sleep) and then I wouldn’t wake up, it really helped me 🙂 sometimes it gives people loose stools so I’d start with less and ease into it.

I do cloth diapers during the day and Sams club own brand at night. They are literally exactly the same as honest co and work just fine 🙂

  2. We have used Costco diapers for three full years with our daughter, and love them so much. I love that they are affordable, they work (in my opinion) just as well as huggies or pampers, and you can have them shipped to your house from Costco online. Basically if you buy Costco diapers you become better looking and win life!

  3. My first baby just turned 2 months! Wow! What a ride! We loved Pampers newborn diapers because they have the wet indicator stripe. Turns blue when they pee and it’s really helpful at first! He wore NB sized diapers until 7.5 weeks. When he needed to move to 1’s, I felt like the Pampers were too big, so now we are doing Honest Company size 1 and I’m loving the prints. It just makes changing diapers a little bit fun! Haven’t tried Huggies yet! I’m so excited for you to meet your baby girl!!

  4. Darling outfit! Love your cute bump! 🙂 I found that I liked Huggies or Pampers best for newborn diapers… they seemed to work better than Costco. But after my kids outgrew those, we went to Costco brand and they worked really well for less money. Just buy one box at a time, since babies grow quickly, and you don’t want to have a ton of one size and then outgrow them. You will have “blow outs” no matter what brand you use… babies are just that powerful. So always bring a couple extra outfits. And doing lots of baby laundry is completely normal. 🙂

  5. We’ve used Pampers, Huggies, and Costco diapers. Pampers are my favorite because they don’t leak as much and seem to fit better, plus they have a stripe that indicates when your baby is wet.
Costco are second-favorite. They’re reliable and cheaper, but not as soft and comfortable for newborn bottoms. I don’t care for Huggies. Always have problems with them leaking for my kids. Oh, and don’t buy very many newborn diapers! Your baby will gain as much as half a pound a week for the first few weeks and depending on how big she is when she’s born, she may outgrow them very quickly!

  6. Hoard the newborn diapers at the hospital. Keep asking for more so you have a nice stack to take home!! We used the Costco brand and didnt have any trouble. I’m now using target as they are even cheaper at least the current size we’re in.

  7. Ah, 4 am pregnancy insomnia. It’s the worst. I always thought it would prepare me for the lack of sleep ahead, but it definitely didn’t because when the baby was here I couldn’t nap whenever I wanted the next day after being up all night with the baby. But it passes, and they start sleeping through the night and all is well! I feel you on those newborn diapers. Both my children were over 9 pounds when they were born so they spent a couple days in newborn diapers before moving to size 1. And my 3 month old has been in size 2 diapers since his third week! The good thing is that you can always save extra diapers they grow out of for future babies!

  8. Yes, definitely try Kirkland/Costco diapers and wipes! I prefer their wipes to everything else, and I like their diapers better than Huggies. I also prefer Pampers to Huggies. But every baby is different, so it wouldn’t be a bad idea to buy a few different brands.

  9. You look amazing!
    1) Yes! Always waking up in the middle of the night! So not fair, don’t we need to stock up on sleep?
    2) We used Pampers for NB & Size 1 diapers when we really needed to make sure stuff was contained 😉 since then we’ve been super happy with Target’s Up & Up diapers! It’s easier for us to get to Target than Costco – but definitely buy “cheaper” diapers if you can! GOOD LUCK! You’ll be a great mama 🙂

  10. I have an almost 9 month old, and Pampers were definitely our favorite diaper! The Costco and Honest company gave little man a rash, and Huggies were fine, they just seemed to leak more. However as he’s gotten older, the leaking is better in general, and Costco sells Huggies so it’s cheaper than Pampers. We’re liking them just fine. I will say Honest wipes are my fave, but for the price, Costco wipes are great, as are any that they have there! Good luck!

  11. I second all the people who love Costco and Target diapers. We have done the Huggies and Pampers and they were great, but so are Costco diapers and Target. Plus, they are cheaper! And for sure be careful to not get too many newborn size diapers (those I would do in a smaller pack)…they do grow quickly and all of a sudden are in size 1! 🙂 Congrats on 32 weeks!!

  12. You look beautiful! I love the Pampers diapers the best, they are so soft and seemed to fit my tiny guy the best. However the Costco brand worked equally as well and was better than Huggies & Honest by far and loved the better price. I’ve since gone back to Pampers because I order them through Amazon Prime, but if you’re at Costco often enough, then go for their diapers.

  13. My second son just turned 2 months yesterday and my diaper advice is don’t go too crazy buying newborn and size 1 diapers. My first was in newborn diapers for about 3 weeks and size 1 until about 3 months, but baby number two barely wore newborn diapers after the hospital and is ready for size 2 at only 2 months old. Also, Pampers fit my first better and Huggies fits better on my second. Moral of the story, every baby is different and you can’t just go by the weight listed on the box. Also, when they start having a lot of blow-outs, it’s time to go up a size. Best wishes, Kendi! Xoxo

  14. I stuck with mostly pampers and huggies for newborn. We used Costco diapers after size 2 but they started to feel a lot less soft and chafed my sons legs….Maybe we got a “bad batch” or something but we switched back to huggies and have stayed with them. Whatever you do don’t but target brand wipes. Those things are the worst!

  15. In my opinion, target diapers are the best! Everyone I know told me to try them and I wasn’t disappointed. My twins wore them the whole time they wore diapers. They were so cheap especially when they would put them on sale and we never had issues with leaking. I honestly don’t believe in spending a lot of money on diapers because let’s be honest they just pee and poop in them. Congratulations, I hope you are able to enjoy the last few months of pregnancy!!!!

  16. Good news for you! Huggies and Kirkland are the same thing. Don’t over buy newborn diapers. From personal experience, I can tell you she will be out of them with in a few weeks. I always sized up at the first blow out. Good luck to you!

  17. Another Target diaper fan here. Cheaper than Costco, and work just fine. I did swear by the Costco brand wipes though – all the other brand names and generic seemed thin and to rip, but Costco was soft but sturdy. Now that we’re out of diapers I miss not having the wipes on hand for literally everything.

  18. You look great and all you say is normal regarding your pregnancy!!!

Have you/are you going to do a post on what kind of non-maternity items you could buy (at all budgets…particularly not high budgets, but you know how maternity is) that would work both during and after pregnancy? All I can think of are maxi dresses and maybe, maybe, t-shirt dresses that stretch forward rather than ride up.

Pregnancy #3 here, and I do have maternity clothes for all seasons on hand, but I do also want something for the summer/early fall that will go beyond this baby’s incubation stage.

    Thanks!

  19. I’m 2 weeks ahead of you and agree on the active baby front. I’m a walker / yogi but generally unathletic but this baby is so active, kicking, stretching, and flipping. I thought it would start to run out of room in there by now. Had a scan and baby is dating well ahead of schedule so trying to mentally prepare myself for the prospect of an early arrival. I have to submit my PhD pre-baby and I’m a bit afraid I’ll go into labour as soon as I submit.

The hospital bag is on my list for the weekend, and I’ve got my breastfeeding class as well. My husband assembled the rocker (he informed our childbirth class that he built it – they were impressed – until I piped up that it was flatpack) and we’ve got clothes washed and sorted thanks to some help from my mom.

  20. I have a sweet little 10 week old and we love the Kirkland brand diapers. They have a color stripe like Huggies that turns blue when there is pee in there. They don’t make a newborn size but once you baby is ready for a size one I would go the Kirkland route:)

  21. Love this look, it’s so cute and looks incredibly comfortable!

As a mom of three young ones, here’s my advice on diapers + brands. For the newborn phase the best brand is Pampers Swaddlers – I would only buy a couple big boxes of these. After the first month, post-birth, I would switch to Huggies Little Snugglers – stay with these until she is about 4-5 months old. Then I’d try a wholesale store brand.

Hope that gives you some helpful insight from my experiences!

  22. Definitely try several diaper brands because different brands will fit different babies. My two have done really well with the Costco diapers (they do have the wet indicator stripe) and wipes! So cheap and you get a ton at a time (just don’t with NB size). We also use coconut oil to clear up rashes and Aquaphor when needed as a skin barrier cream. Good luck! 🙂

  23. This was my favorite maternity dress when I was pregnant. If I could do my maternity wear purchases over again I would buy 5 Ingrid & Isabel dresses, each in different colors and sleeve lengths and just wear them on repeat.

  24. My daughter just turned one and we have used costco diapers all year and love them! They have the little stripe that turns colors in sizes 1 & 2 (and after that we found we didn’t need or miss them). We have used pampers and honest diapers as well and found all of them comparable as far as effectiveness/leak prevention goes.

The real gem from Costco though is the wipes! They are by far the best around!

  25. I’ve liked Target brand diapers for my two kids for the past 2.5 years. I thought Costco were okay, too, but when I calculated it out after coupons, sales, and my Redcard Target was cheaper.

  26. I use Costco diapers! Well, my daughter does 😉 They may not be cute, but they are cheap and work well.

  27. Definite yes on the Costco Kirkland diapers! Those were our faves – right price, good fit, no leaks. She only blew out once or twice ever.

  28. Going on almost 2 years of Kirkland diapers (and wipes) and zero issues. We love them, definitely recommend! We tried many other brands (received as shower gifts, etc) and Costco wins for price and quality. 🙌🏻

  29. Costco diapers are great! We used pampers in the beginning (we got so many from our baby shower) but the thing I loved most about pampers and costco diapers were they have the line in the middle that turns blue if the baby has gone to the bathroom. It makes everything so much easier! Especially when they are newborn and going around the clock. We now use Target diapers and they are awesome! Costco and Aldi have the best wipes (for the best price) too!

  30. We have loved Costco diapers! We’ve tried them all and they are by far my favorite. Order them online and they ship free to your house. Congrats on making it to 8 months! I’ve had two difficult pregnancies and making it through week by week is a major hurdle. You can do this!!
