I love seeing new color trends each season and this spring I was pleasantly surprised to see yellow pop up! I’m never shy of color and I have a closet full of pinks (of course I’ll never abandon my millennial pink 😉 ) but a new pastel is in town. This popular color right now is the perfect hue of yellow; it’s soft and feminine without feeling too overpowering, which it can sometimes feel when wearing yellow. Bright, highlighter yellow can be jarring and mustard yellow feels too autumn. But this sunshine yellow hits it out of the park as far as the most complementary shade of yellow you can find. And just in time for summer.

Style note: after years of working in retail and owning a shop, I learned a lot about people’s color preferences when it came to clothing. Yellow is actually one of those shades that people either love or hate to wear. I found that darker complexions and skin tones and darker hair were more attracted to yellow pieces — AKA brunettes liked it, blondes hated it. Yellow is a beautiful shade on olive and dark skin tones, but I happen to think this shade of yellow can work on anyone if you pair it just right! And if you aren’t feeling a full-on yellow ensemble and I just can’t convince you otherwise, a pop of yellow from a clutch or a shoe brings the trend into your look without feeling full on Big Bird.

  1. I love yellow clothing but it totally washes me out unfortunately! Wish I could wear it more!
