Since I started to work from home, I’ve come up with a few habits that I have to abide by in order to get all of my work down. My number one rule? Always get up and get dressed for work. I find that if I get up early, get ready and go into my office just like I would if I worked elsewhere than my house, then it will lead to a more productive and successful day. Every single time. And yes, even down to the shoes.

And I have a certain formula for this look — I call it my uniform.

Though I’ll admit that my ‘everyday uniform’ is more casual these days, I usually reach for my typical uniform — an easy equation that usually combines heels (or surpassingly flats), skinny jeans and an easy blouse. So I find myself looking in my closet more and more for the perfect pair of jeans, since I’m in a pair at least 2-3 times a week. After many trial runs with different brands of denim, I now have two criteria from any pair of jeans, priced low to high: they must not stretch out throughout the day and must be flattering. That’s it — just two tests to pass. Shouldn’t be that hard to find the perfect denim, right? Right? If only it was that easy to find good denim.

Recently I was given the chance to try the new DL1961 denim (these are from the Jessica Alba collection) and I thought why not give them a shot. I’ve worn DL1961 in the past and liked the fit, but when I put these on — I instantly fell in love with this pair. They are high waisted — which is a favorite style of mine. And guess what? They do not stretch throughout the day. In fact, I brought them to Switzerland with me and still no stretching. I think it’s the stretch in the denim that helps them keep their shape, but whatever it is, it’s working. I’m truly a fan. Any jean that does what it promises, is a friend of mine indeed.

This blouse plus these jeans makes a fail proof outfit that always works. She’s gonna get a promotion soon, I just know it.

What’s your work  — or work from home — uniform? I’d love to know!

  1. I don’t have one type of outfit that I wear every day (I like my options!), but my go-to outfit when I want to look polished and professional is Loft’s Julie trousers (they hang well with none of that horrible puckering around the hips that cheap slacks can have) and a collared shirt or blouse. When I want to look polished but more relaxed at work, I reach for a skirt and tall boots. I get cold easily in the office AC so I like having my legs covered!

  2. Always looking for great jeans–thanks for sharing! Did you order your normal size in these?

    1. I did! I think you could probably size down one and be fine, if you typically do this with designer jeans. I’m usually always the same size in all jeans so I just stayed true!

  3. Oh boy do I feel you! I also work from home 3 days a week, and I find that if I decide to just ‘watch ONNEEE episode of the Big Bang Theory’ to begin my morning, well, there goes the entire morning. Getting dressed, sitting down with coffee and NOT being near a TV are my lifesavers. Love the jeans, will definitely take a look! xoxo

  4. This is my hands-down go-to outfit since I hit my 30s and work in an big school academic library. Throw a blazer on – and you’re good to go. I used to enjoy the city skirts and pencil skirts (still do pencil skirts), but as I’m rounding 35 (next year) I just can’t help but feel childish when I try to dress up beyond your classic look like today. I almost feel like I’m wearing a costume or scream try-hard. I still love a good pencil, but I feel so much more “in my own skin” in something like this. Love it.
