Last week we headed out south to Tulum, Mexico with very different expectations. We knew it was going to be different than what we were expecting, but we had no idea. It was the complete opposite of what I had in mind but for the very best. Sometimes expectations need to be changed. I am always prepared with outfits and pretty things to shoot when we travel, but in Tulum the best thing you can do is give in to your surroundings and just let it be. We decided early on to not shoot too many outfits and to just enjoy our trip, so we did. We splashed in the clear waters, we rode bikes into town every day, we drank all of the mint lemonade on the beach. It was the best time and I would highly recommend Tulum to anyone. Just be prepared to feel one with nature in the most sweaty, but best way possible. (Side note: we went in the ‘wet’ season. If you go during December – April, that is the less humid and more mild time to go. But who doesn’t like a little sweat right? 😉 I will happily sweat in paradise.)

I was so glad that I ended up packing multiple variations of this outfit : a cute but airy top with cut-offs. Tops like this one and this one were easy to wear on days that we were slumming around the beach or exploring in town. It’s nice to feel covered but also feel cool. (This shirt is a bit sheer, I didn’t wear a camisole underneath in Mexico but it could easily pair with a cami for non-vacation.) When I was wearing this ikat top, I realized that I was coordinating pretty darn well with a building around our hotel and of course we had to grab photos. You just can’t ignore a pained building, especially when you two match.
