This is Kim. She’s my mom, my best friend and since the mid-1980’s we’ve been attached at the hip. My mom and I have always had a special relationship. I remember one time when I was a little girl, maybe 8 or 9, I told her that if we were the same age we would for sure be best friends. She wholeheartedly agreed. We are quite different, my mom and I, and in some ways quite opposite. Β But the two things we share are her great sense of humor and her great sense of style. Two of my best qualities, passed down from her.

Growing up, my mom and I would visit fabric stores and she would let me pick out my own patterns and fabrics to sew for me. There I’d be with those huge pattern books and my tiny little self, looking through carefully, sure to pick the very best one. We would look through the bolts of fabric, finding the best floral or print and quite possibly the most 90s patterns ever (now that I look back on photos). And then I’d show up to school in the most exclusive romper or dress that has ever existed because my mom and I made it. She taught me early on how to find and love personal style; how style speaks volumes before you say a word. (Trust me that floral romper spoke a thousand words.)

One of my favorite photos from when I was a little girl is one of me and my mom, both striking a pose in similar outfits with the exact same haircut, a long bob with no bangs. That’s right, my mom cut our hair exactly alike. When I pointed this out to her years later she died laughing, not realizing that she had been doing this all along throughout my childhood. But now I don’t mind matching my mom, in fact I kind of like it when we coordinate. More often than not we will show up in similar outfits or similar colors when we are meeting up. So when I was able to give her a watch that matched mine from Coach’s DelanceyΒ collection, I knew she’d be so excited. The timepiece I gifted her is theΒ classic metalΒ bracelet, mine is the updated leather strap perfect for my everyday looks. What’s so great about this collection is that it will never go out of style and the watches be worn with anything! It’s nice to be able to giveΒ style back to her as she has so lovingly given to me throughout the years. Most importantly, spending precious time with her is what I truly cherish.

Like mother, like daughter — and I wouldn’t want it any other way.

*Special thank you to Coach for collaborating on this post.
