One of my best kept secrets of feeling confident is having a go-to outfit that I know I feel good in. While my “go-to’s” have changed over the years, one thing that hasn’t change is my confidence boosting secret: wearing black. There is just something about an all black or dark ensemble that makes me feel confident in what I’m wearing so I can worry about other things. If I have a speaking engagement or an event that I’m especially nervous to attend, I typically choose black or dark colors because I know it’s a fail-proof plan. Or if it’s just a regular day and I’m feeling a bit lost in my closet, dark shades are what I gravitate towards. There is nothing a little black dress can’t fix.

Another one of my best kept secrets is keeping my clothes always looking new with my laundress skills. That’s right, I said Laundress which is a mix of goddess and laundry and might be a name I call myself on the weekends. I am queen separator of laundry at our house and I always pay attention to what needs my clothes might have. Delicate, cold water, hang to dry — never a problem. I’ve found that keeping a tab on how to launder my pieces helps keep them always looking new and fresh. So when I was introduced to Woolite Darks, I was more than thrilled to try it out. (Seriously, laundry thrills me. Another deep dark secret I have.) It smells so good, which is my first test a detergent has to pass. Woolite Darks does not contain harsh ingredients, such as bleach or enzymes, so it helps dark colors stay vivid, bold, does not fade, stretch or shrink. And it keeps your darks looking new for up to 30 washes. I’m only on like wash 3 but so far, so good. 30 washes is a lot, even for this Laundress.

And if all else fails, the best confidence builder for me is helping other women find their confidence. I recently donated a few of my favorite dark pieces to Dress for Success, an international nonprofit that empowers women to achieve economic independence, in hopes that some of my confident looks will inspire other women to feel the same in their everyday. It’s amazing what an outfit can do for confidence. If you get a chance, check out Woolite’s partnership with Dress for Success and watch their powerful video about spreading confidence through the power of clothes. (It’s the sweetest video — I teared up!) Sharing clothes and confidence to each other, one of my favorite messages to spread to women.

  1. I have a serious problem with keeping my black jeans looking black for more than a handful of washes, so I’m definitely going to be trying this! Love this outfit by the way!

    1. I know, that’s the one downside of black jeans — they are notorious for fading 🙁 I always wash them on cold, inside out and yes with a gentle detergent! This one works great on black or dark jeans.

  2. Enzymes are, in fact, not harsh at all. You don’t have to avoid products that contain them. Sorry, as a chemist I couldn’t resist correcting this inaccuracy 🙂
    By the way, great outfit!
