There’s a lot of things I never thought I’d say since I started blogging. One being, ‘I like those overalls’ and two ‘oh, just dye the ends of my hair’ but one thing that I never ever thought I’d say is yes, please to flat shoes. This coming from a girl who has worn heels since I was allowed to. (I’m looking at you, 1999 platform flip flops.) But with days spent in the shop or on the road, I look a lot to flats to help me get through the day. (Wedges are a great alternative too for heels. But that’s another post.)
When I was searching for a solid everyday pair, I decided on a d’Orsay style. It’s classic and adds a bit of tailor or structure to any outfit. For me when I wear flats there is always a disconnect for me to feel put together. But I’ve realized that you’ve just got to find the right flat. Pointed toe flats help bring a tailored look, while a colorful pair with bring a nice pop to any outfit. And of course you can’t go wrong with a classic ballet flat. (The Yosi Samara ones I linked above are similar to the pair I took to Europe with me last spring and basically wore them out because they were so comfortable.)

Oh and yes of course I linked a pair of  dog flats because….why the hell not? Am I a full grown woman with a love for animal themed clothing? Yes, yes I am.

What about you? Your thoughts on flats — love them, hate them or a not-so-evil necessity?

  1. yes to flats. have you tried tieks? they’re a pretty penny so i have not pulled the trigger… yet. in the meantime, i’ve been wearing these at $20/pop. they are so comfortable, i have forsaken all other shoes in favor of them.

    1. YES, these they have the extra elastic. Must try for $20….I was ready to drop $80 for the Yosi ^. Thanks for the suggestion, omw to Payless.

  2. I struggle feeling polished with flats, still trying to find the right balance but I really like the extra elastic on the Yosi Samra Samara (say that 3x fast), they just might work. Wedges are a savior cause heels are for occasions in my life, i just can’t on the everyday.

  3. Love ’em! I’m 5.7 and my husband is 5.5 – why would I NOT love flats? 😉

  4. I’m 5’9″ and live in Boston where owning a car is impossible, so I end up walking several miles each day. I keep some nice heels for special occasions, but I pretty much live in flats!

  5. Yes to the doggy ones! In general, I’m quite a flat fan, have so many pairs and even though my imaginary self is always in stilettos, my reality is mostly in heels just because it’s way more comfortable

  6. True story- I pitched a fit when my mom insisted that I wear heals to my junior cotillion dance. Flats only for this kid. 🙂 Skinnies and flats (with a nice button up) are more or less my uniform nowadays- I love love love this roundup! JCrew also tends to have really amazing (albeit a bit pricey) flats. Really fun colors and patterns, and the quality is decent. I have been debating about those Yosi Samra flats- if they are as comfortable as promised I may need to give them a whirl.

  15. I love flats (and heels) and in particular Pretty Ballerina’s ballerinas, as they come in size 42/huge. Chloe and MBMJ’s flats have always been on my wishlist, but they are simply too small for me. Buhu! I’d love a good pair of D’Orsay flats, though, so if a suitable pair come my way I’ll snap them up immediately. The cutout and pointy toe make them so chic.

  16. Yes please, flats. I love heels on other people, just because I can’t stand them on my feet, nowadays. That’s past!

  21. I love those metallic ones! I’ve definitely been on the hunt for some chic flats for this summer. I usually don’t prefer flats but they’re just so comfortable! Hahah!
