Yesterday was the first day of fall. Did I drink a pumpkin spice latte and wear a heavy sweater, scarf, and knee high boots while crunching leaves under foot? I did not. I did go ahead and throw on a fall-like outfit because why the hell not? Sure the sun my not recognize the first day of fall when it sees it, but I sure do. If the calendar says it’s fall, I’m dressing like it. (Summer sun, you can stay a little while longer but only because you’re pretty.)
Yesterday was also the 3rd anniversary — or would be — the 3rd anniversary of my shop Bloom. (Our building we leased sold in the spring and we were vacated for a few months. You can read more here.) One of my very favorite days in my memory bank. We worked until 2 am the night before making sure everything was ready to open the next day. Every piece was steamed and ready and I had no clue what to expect. Would anyone know we were open? Would we even have a customer or a sale? It was the most thrilling mix of anxiety and excitement I’ve ever experienced. Especially when our first customer walked in. It all became real. I’ll always celebrate September 23rd, even though bloom is now closed. It was my first day as a shop owner; the start of some of my best days.
Today is September 24th. And just minutes ago I got the keys to our new shop, West & Lou. We are still in downtown McKinney, still located on the square but in a new building with a new name and concept. The website is up and going (no products for sale online just yet, hopefully late October!) and we are working our tails off to get things launched as quickly as possible. Once we have more to share, I’ll share it but for now a website will just have to do. Hope you’re ready for shopgirl 2.0 because I am more than ready.
(Oh and if you are local and wondering our new address it’s 203 West Louisiana, right when you drive into the square! And yes, that’s where West & Lou came from. *winks*)
