I woke up in the best mood today. And for the first time it’s not circumstantial or forced happiness because I know I need to be better. Does that make sense? I’m not happy because something really big and great is happening (although maybe it is and I just can’t see it yet) but my brain is happy today. You don’t understand how good that feels to have a brain that tells you good things instead of bad. I told B last night that I was excited and for nothing in general, just excited for our life. I know a lot of you responded to the depression post so I just wanted to tell you guys that today I’m okay. Like really okay, dare I say happy and thank you for caring. (Assuming you still care…and if you don’t…well this got awkward…)

On a lighter note, I really hope that on my tee these are only words for kissing. I’m putting that on you, J.Crew if it’s not. I take no responsibility for accidental international profanity.

  1. Well the only non-English word for “kiss” I know is “beso” in Spanish, but I don’t see that one on there! But it’s really cute.

  2. So happy for you! I was literally just thinking about that post this morning and hoping you were in a better place

  3. Love this outfit. The skirt is gorgeous and love the t-shirt. Glad you’re in a good place and feel good. It’s important to feel good and not because something happened, but just because you feel good.

  5. Completely understand you! I felt happy for no reason at all this morning. Now, I just feel sleepy and can’t wait to leave work.
    BTW: I love your top!

  6. It does feel good to be “really happy” instead of “forced happy”. And it makes perfect sense, even if it can’t be articulated.

  7. You look so cute! I’m so happy you’re happy. I love those mornings when you wake up and feel totally content and happy, for no apparent reason! I hope today continues to be wonderful!

  8. Kendi! I am so bummed I didn’t get a chance to personally meet you at TXSC this past weekend! You are beautiful inside and out and I wish I could have come and squeezed you! (this could be awkward…) Also! a friend of a friend I believe works in your store? Nicole? Small world! Since I’m based in Fort Worth I hope to make it to the store sometime soon and say hello!

  9. Hi Kendi! I’ve been reading for years now, but never commented! I TOTALLY understand that feeling (going through some recovery/therapy myself). It always feels like such a blessing, and I’m glad you are experiencing it too.

Your blog is so inspiring for me! You helped me gain confidence in my personal style and schooled me on remixing back in the 30 for 30 days (I know, isn’t remixing obvious??? It totally wasn’t for me prior). I’m so pleased for you with how your blog has grown and changed. I read it daily! Thanks for sharing your style and life with us.

  10. I know exactly what you mean — simple, plain happiness is the best feeling when you’ve been feeling down. I love (LOVE!) this outfit! (profanity or not, haha)

  11. That’s awesome lady, so happy you are feeling happy! 🙂 Also, I love this outfit–I’m a sucker for stripes and this skirt is adorable!

  12. I’m brazilian and I’m happy to see “beijo” on you lovely tee! It’s kiss in portuguese 🙂

  13. Kendi, I’m so happy to hear that you are feeling that kind of happy, peaceful sense of well being that can’t be forced. That is fabulous and, yes, I do still care!

And thanks for clarifying the t shirt situation bc I was wondering how I had missed it on the J.Crew website. I love it!

    You look gorgeous.

  18. Hey!
Just started reading your blog. I might be your oldest reader at 48. I read a bunch of blogs from some pretty amazing women not just to gain inspiration from the ideas I learn but to get to experience other people. Sometimes we can live in a bubble so thank goodness I have the ability to find blogs that can be helpful to me. My motto is your never to old to learn something new. Life is so full of ups and downs and its what you do with them that counts. Going through the downs helps you appreciate the ups!! I’m sorry we have to experience those downs but hopefully it makes us stronger. Thanks for the inspiration!! Keep up the good work!
