You guys, after all of that complaining yesterday it is a little bit warmer today. That just goes to show you that complaining a little will get you somewhere. You might not have many friends when you get there, so that’s a trade-off.
This outfit has been worn a few times before in the past two weeks (AKA if you follow me on instagram, then you’ve seen this before). I just keep wearing it because it’s so comfortable. It’s kind of like my equivalent to a t-shirt and jeans. Which by the way, I’ve realized that I don’t do t-shirt and jeans very well. In fact, I’ve come to realize that  I don’t do casual well at all. Case in point, we took the afternoon off on Monday and we were just going to run somewhere quick to get lunch, so I knew I didn’t have to put my best on. However, I will have you know that it took me a solid 25 minutes, beads of forehead sweat and a bed full of discarded options for me to literally put on the right t-shirt with the right pair of jeans. And then I had to figure out the shoe situation. Casual shoes, I mean…there is a whole new world there that I’ve yet to explore… *mind explodes* Whereas it takes me just a few minutes to get dressed in the morning when I put dresses and heels on or I put my daily going to work outfits together. Is it possible to be a high-maintence and casual? Because I am halfway there.
Seriously though, to the girls who can rock a t-shirt, jeans and look impeccable I tip my hat to you. (It’s a fancy hat because heaven knows I look terrible in baseball caps.)

  1. I love this look Kendi! You're adorably witty in your writing, and the prospect of a quick giggle, always brings me back for more! You've made me want to try the t-shirt and jeans look today! Hoping it works out!

  2. I know exactly what you mean! I am one of those girls who prefers the high maintence looks, all the causal looks make me feel like I am not doing it right. hehehehe but hats off to those girls who can make casual look so chic!

  3. I have the same issues, I wear a t-shirt and jeans regularly but I can never make it look great. I think it's much easier to throw on a cute dress and go. I love yours especially with the denim jacket, I can't get enough denim on top these days!

  4. I agree with you completely! I totally can't pull of tee and jeans; in fact I can't barely pull off wearing jeans at all. Here's to casual high-maintenance!

That booties… *sigh* I swear Target has direct access to my bank account.

  5. It's comforting to know that even Kendi Skeen takes 25 minutes to get dressed sometimes, and that Mt.I-Have-Nothing-to-Wear makes an appearance on your bed when this happens. Happens to me all the time.

  6. You look great, casual and all. And you're absolutely right… casual shoes is a whole other can of worms.

  7. I know exactly what you mean. I'm terrible at the casual idea. I still can't find flats or sneakers that are comfortable and I like the look of, so I usually start with heels. And then next thing you know I have a blazer on and so on. I need to figure out the casual idea because all those girls look so cute in their boyfriend jeans and sneakers and baseball hats. I've tried, but it makes me all feel dumpy. Maybe casual will never be for us?

  8. I am so with you, girl! I have a MUCH harder time putting together an outfit to wear to a casual get together at someone's house than to a party out at a fancy restaurant! The t-shirt and jeans combo is just. so. hard. How do girls do it?? Your casual outfit is perfect. I love rocking a casual dress and flat shoes for my casual wear too.

  9. I agree with you completely. I literally had to buy "casual" t-shirts today just so I could do the casual Tee/Jeans look. Love your outfit, as always!

  10. You are so right.. Even I am not a T-shirt and Jeans kinda girl.. I love to dress well. From dresses, to skirts to jumsuits and pants – I rock them all, but when it comes to T-shirt and jeans, I have to think soooo hard.. Sigh!!

  11. I have the worst time with casual dressing too. I'm always either over styling everything or putting on the most basic outfit possible… sneakers, jean, t-shirt, cardigan, check.

  12. I have a hard time dressing casual too – case in point, I find weekend causal looks to be way hard to put together than my work outfits. so I totally get where your coming from! Love this outfit too!!

  13. i just wear my gym clothes – including running shoes – when i want to go out and not dress up. it's all or nothing for me, no inbetweeners. i just hope people assume i just got done at the gym :-/

  14. You do this kind of casual pretty well! And I think a basic white tee will save your life if you don't already have one. I felt like I couldn't do the t-shirt and jeans thing then I found a great cotton white tee and now I'm a believer!

  15. Nothing says spring to me like putting my jean jacket over my summer clothes. I am in New Hampshire and had to wear leggings with my chambray dress. My ghastly white legs want to come out!

  16. I love this look – even seeing it again (yes, I follow you on Insta (: ). And I was eyeing that jacket this morning on factory – might need to give it a second look!!

  17. This is so funny to me because I am so with you on this. I have a harder time dressing casually. I think a big part of it is that I don't really feel that great when I'm in a t-shirt and jeans. Yesterday I was just going to "throw something on" because I knew I'd be going to the pool later w/my kids (indoor of course). But I ended up in a graphic tee and jeans with an embellished cardi and PEARLS!! Ha! Glad it's not just me 🙂

  18. I don't know why you say you are bad at casual. I think you look adorable and so fresh whether it is jeans, dresses and just about everything I've seen you in! Your blog was the first one I found in my search and I love coming back every day to see what you do next that I can steal :-p your taste is great. Very similar to mine!

  19. I doubt you're BAD at casual…it just might be a look you're not used to on yourself. I do agree that finding a good tshirt can be quite a challenge, but once you do, buy it in every color. 🙂

  20. I love this, and it's the perfect amount of casual. See I always gravitate towards a tshirt and jeans when really I look that great in them. I have to get into doing more dresses like this.

so cute, so fresh. I love it!

  21. You totally crack me up! You also make some very good points. I too am a girl who does not sport casual well, in fact, casual for me is mostly dressed up for others. Case in point, I was told we were "dressing up" to go to a show this weekend, but have found out that dressed up to our companions is more like my everyday wardrobe, not a gown as I would think… So although I am a little disappointed, I guess I don't really have to stress about what to wear. Love your mix of brown and black!

  22. OMG!! I feel the same way. Its so difficult more to pick out a casual outfit, always look horrible.

  23. I totally just posted on my blog In the Mean about how I have one dress that is so easy breezy that I wear it ALL the time!!
    xx

  24. Adorable as always, Kendi! Your outfits and personality here on your blog always brighten my day!!

  25. You're hilarious. A tee and jeans is meant to be the easiest, most non complicated thing in the world and yet, you've made it difficult. Silly 🙂

  26. Haha I love the baseball cap comment. I, too, look terrible in those. I feel like somedays I can totally pull off casual whereas other days I feel like I only know how to rock a skirt. I think it all depends on my mood and the weather. The colder it is, the more likely I am to throw on jeans and a tee. Typically a scarf too.

  27. Funny, because I make every outfit casual. I'm going to a wedding? Oh, well, I feel a little too dressed up in this dress. Maybe I should layer a pair of jeans under…

  28. you are too funny i have yet to meet someone that looks good in a baseball cap but you are a stunner in casual, nothing beats a t shirt in jeans until i saw this outfit. flirty floral print dress and jean…jacket! genius! and those ankle boots are target?! perfection (as always) happy easter weekend xo

  29. Love the boots! I can't believe they are from Target!!

  30. This is hilarious – but I'm with you on that – Casual Friday is the hardest day for me to get dressed for work. You want to look casual, but not sloppy, plus you want to be cute but not like you are trying too hard. It is a fine balance.

Anyway- loving this casual look – I find pairing dresses with casual shoes and or jackets- is pretty much the easiest way to be casual!

  31. Oh Kendi, I could not agree more! I find it so hard to find jeans & a tee I feel confident and comfortable in! I usually just end up feeling frumpy and hoping no one sees me – I envy those girls who can throw on a simple v-neck tee and jeans and look all 'model off duty'! And this is SO my kind of outfit, I love everything about it! You look completely adorable!

  32. Although I do love a good tshirt + jeans combo, casual shoes escape me completely. I can't ever seem to look "together" when I wear tennis shoes of any kind. I like your casual look. Let your fancy freak flag fly.

  33. love the booties! i always have a hard time pairing them with my clothes. could you wear them more often so we can get some ideas? 🙂

  34. This is the best! I'm completely the same way! It takes me no time at all to throw together a cute outfit with a dress, but when I try to look presentable in jeans, it's nearly impossible and so frustrating. I am so not a casual dresser.

  35. I seriously love the title of this post & the outfit even more! I was just in a dressing room today amongst blazers & work pants and realized I need to find a balance and incorporate more "casual" into my wardrobe! LOVE this whole look.

  36. Cute! A dress, boots, and a nice jacket is my idea of a casual outfit too – I can't rock jeans and tee either!
