I inadvertently dressed like the American flag today. Maybe I had voting on my mind, maybe I’m the best citizen ever. You decide

One time I ran for student council in elementary school. I made really cool posters with watches glued to them saying it was “time for a change.” (Because as you know, elementary politics are a crucial keystone of our economy. Third grade is a pivotal time in most people’s political careers and I was not going to let it slip through my hands with a simple poster.) That week, us candidates stood in front of our class and gave our speeches promising things that we had no control over whatsoever like recess, homework and vending machines. And then we waited until Election Day. I remember walking down the hall that day, ready to vote for the best candidate (myself) and as I was admonishing the other candidate’s lame posters without the cool 3-D effects, I realized something was missing on my poster. The watches that I had glued to the poster were gone. Just little gluey outlines of watches remained. And in that moment, I was certain that I would not be elected. And that I’d never get those cheap watches back. And that someone, somewhere had 4 really sticky watches and they deserved every hair that would be pulled out of their arms after wearing my stolen watches.

All that to say, that was the end of my political career and that you should go vote in the election today.  Don’t make me tell you more stories from my sordid past.

  1. This is the sort of outfit that makes me want to go out and buy everything you’re wearing so that I can replicate it. Sadly, that’s not an option, but you look adorable!

  2. This the best outfit to go vote in…. Love the stripes/polka combo – you nailed it!

  3. Love this outfit, perfect for election day! I’m dressed red white and blue today also, but mostly because I want my little “I voted” sticker to match my outfit. Pathetic or awesome?

  4. Perfect outfit!  I love the dots and stripes together.  That skirt is my favorite.

  5. Love this outfit! That skirt has such a nice shape.
    PS-I’m sorry about your watches!

  6. I voted last week. Still looked cute when I did though!  Love your polka dot tops!! I want your closet!!

  9. When I was a freshman in high school, I ran for student council. My slogan was “Whatchamacallit? Wetschamacallit! Call it a vote for Julie Wetsch.” (wetsch being my maiden name). It was too bad that I came up with my slogan before taking into account the 18 inch width we were allowed for campaign posters. That was a doozy to write out and I’m pretty sure most people couldn’t read my extremely narrow writing resulting in me not being elected. sigh.

  10. I cannot even explain how much I LOVE that skirt!!! I also absolutely adore the pattern mixing & it all looks fab with the red heels!

  11. Cute skirt, but even cuter story. Lol! That was hilarious. Kids are so mean.

  12. Oh my goodness, I LOVE this!  I’m not sure I could rock that much white at one time without major spillage occurring (seriously, such is the way of life…*sigh*) but you totally nailed it.  Looks professional, yet fun; the red lip & pump add the perfect contrast and really tie the look together.
    Best,

  13. I was 5th grade class secretary. Couldn’t tell you what exactly I did as secretary, I just remember that’s what I was. I was also president of a sorority that I made up. There were 3 members, including me. Anyway, super cute outfit. You are for sure the best citizen ever!

  14. such a great story. love that the posters were creative, and believe you would have won had the watches remained on the posters. Great look btw as well.

    1. Well honestly, it’s just my olive skin tone. I wish I had a secret though! If I get a good summer tan, I can stay this way until about January — and then all pale breaks loose.

  16. That was quite a story lol. I ran for class president on 6th grade lost by one vote, then the girl wasn’t doing a very good job and someone pointed it out(me) and since I was vice president I became the new president.

  17. Too funny. I also ran for Student Council rep. But like every good political story, I had a twist. I changed home rooms a few days before the election. 5th Grade drama… The other class already elected their rep, so I had to wait for 6th grade. A whole year! But this was an Abraham Lincoln story. I won president my 6th grade year. It was the most political I ever got.

I think my poster was a nike check… “just do it.”

  18. I love your patriotic outfit – so cute! 🙂 I was “fifth grade representative” and class president in 6th grade – I’m pretty sure my campaign consisted of soda in water fountains and longer periods of “snack.” ah, the golden days. 🙂

  31. I am so jealous you’re wearing that in November. It would not fly here in Chicago. When I ran for student council in elementary school I made posters that said “Peace, love, togetherness, Vote for Jennie Szink.” I also wore a crocheted cape. If only those kids knew how cool I was. – J

  32. I was voted class president back in the day. I didn’t want the position, but everybody else thought they’d suffer less responsibility by putting me there. Oh well. At least it served me during the filing of university applications.

  33. Adorable!  Question for you…  How do you wear all of these great shoes and not kill your feet with blisters and such?  I live in sneakers due to my job and when I wear heels I absolutely kill my feet…
