{Tank: Target | Skirt: Bloom (old) | Wedges: Similar | Bag: c/o Jenny N. | Necklace: c/o Ily Couture}

When I first started blogging, I remember hearing the comment of “your style is so simple.” At first this frustrated me, probably because I heard it in a negative way, not necessarily in the way it was meant. Simple in my mind seemed lame; not exciting or mind blowing or life-changing. But over the years I’ve thought about it and really, that statement is very true — my style is simple. I like simple pieces, I’m drawn to easy styles and outfits that are easy to put together and pull off. I’ve fought this nature many times, thinking that simple can’t be right — there has to be a way to complicate this outfit a little bit more.

Today was one of those days and of course it happens on the day I’m running late. I stand in front of my closet and ask “should I add [insert a plethora of accessory options here] to this outfit?” My closet rarely answers me, by the way. Sometimes I trip over a shoe or a purse falls and hits me in the face, but never does it answer. But as time ran out, the more I realized that maybe simple was just fine. A belt would add fuss; a scarf can be saved for another outfit when it cools down; different shoes would be nice but these are the ones I’ve got. I guess my closet answered me after all: simple it is.

  1. My personal style is pretty simple as well. As hard as I try to be elaborate I go back to my simple ways.  I like to think of it more as a classic look, so I can look back later and not hate everything that I wore.

  2. Oh it's from Bloom. I forgot my little arrows today, didn't I? It's old, but I'm trying to find a similar one in the web. 🙂

  3. That's such a good point. I feel like i keep the more simpler pieces in my wardrobe for a longer amount of time, too. Maybe we are on to something here. 😉

  4. I think the simplicity of your style is what makes it feel so accessible, at least to me! Your style is the best part of simple: statement-making simple. May sound like an oxymoron, but I think it's true.

Also, I am in love with that chevron cuff; may I ask where it's from?

  5. Simple doesn't mean boring, that's for sure! That cuff, the cut of the skirt, your chunky sandals, all VERY visually interesting pieces. I love your style 🙂

  6. Simple is definitely not the same thing as boring. Think about it…in school did you ever say, "Ugh, I hate math class. It's so simple." No. It was boring but probably not simple. Would you ever say "I might fall asleep from simpledom?" No, because simpledom is not a word. Point is, you do simple style better than anyone else I know of, and we wouldn't all be stalking your outfits if they were boring!

  7. Simple is stunning!! I am drooling over that skirt… and that archive bag has been calling my name for some time now. It looks great with that outfit!

  8. Haha I love that. Very true, my friend. I'll remember that.

Also, is it weird that I loved math class? English bored the hell out of me, but math — I loved me some equations.

  9. Love this outfit! Simple can be so gorgeous and if ever I've thought simple about an outfit you've posted, it's always been synonymous with stunning in my mind. I think simple, when done right, shows appropriate restraint and understanding of true style. In my opinion, you're a poster girl for simple done Oh So Right!

  10. You have great "simple" style!  And you have a few thousand readers who would agree!

Lighten up girl!  What's with the boohoo rut??  You're gorgeous, you seem to live a really happy, really lucky life with a man who loves the shit out of you.  Smile!

  11. I've always thought your style was accessible and I guess in a way that means it's a bit simple – simple to recreate, simple to aspire to, etc. All good things if you ask me!

  12. i think simple is always the best, you can never go wrong with it … you look just beautiful!! love that color of blue with the white!!

  13. Honestly I think there is so much beauty in simplicity and this skirt would simply not look as good if you had as much going on Kendi!

  14. simple but feasible which is so appreciated in a style blog (fashion blog? is there a difference?)

keep in keepin on, Kendi. You're the best of allllll the rest.

  15. I love your simple style! It makes me feel like I'm not the lamest of the lame when it comes to fashion, because if Kendie keeps it simple then so can I! 🙂

  16. i'm glad you left this simple! it's so clean and fresh! oh and i finally got some fun wedges that are very similar to yours! love!

  17. i LOVE your simple style!!! so many fashion bloggers just wear so much its sometimes hard to discern what is what that they have on!! you wear statement pieces and i love that. 🙂 just be you, kendi!! cuz you ARE my top fashion icon. 🙂

  18. YOu are so cute!  That is why my blog is called Easy Outfits by Pip, because I like simple, and feel style should not always be complicated and always over the top!  I love simplicity in everything, with the rare exception of something mind-blowing to spice things up every now and again!!!  I love your skirt by the way!  The cut is perfect!  xx  Pip

  19. Kendi, you're gorgeous (YOU YOURSELF) and so is your "simple" style. I think I speak for many of your followers when I say we like you for YOU! Keep at it (but only if you REALLY want to, beautiful!)! I always look forward to peeking into your life on here. All the bits you share–ups, downs, funsies, quirkies…love it all! p.s. loving white on white up top. also…i LLOVE your style because I can actually imitate it without looking ridiculous! bonus!

  20. p.s. i forgot to say how much i LOOOVE your skirt, and how badly i wanna get one!! tulip skirts just scream 'FEMININE!!' 🙂

  21. simple is why I pin your outfits more than anyone else's.  I can easily recreate your outfits with any budget and usually with items I already have.  The best part is that I know that I'll look almost as good as you do.  Which is always very well dressed!

  22. oh, but I think this look is stunningly simple..I love it. (and I have an almost identical skirt, so I'll likely be copying you! 🙂

  23. Love this as I actually have a navy blue skirt that is so similar to this! Pinning now 🙂

  24. I love simple outfits! An outfit with a lot of accessoiries might look more interesting on a blog, but I personally feel more comfortable in simpler outfits!

  25. I'm just amazed that you already had the main pieces put together at the time you were running late!  Running late and you grab THAT pretty outfit!  When I am running late it goes like this "Uggh!  I'm late.  Where is that ugly dress that I just throw on and no one at work cares, bc at least it is a dress!"  I should just burn that dress.

  26. There's nothing wrong with being simple. There will always be people who want to layer themselves with accessories and statement pieces, and there will be those who can put on a T-shirt and a pair of blue jeans and be done with it. Either way, it is still fashion, and you should never aim to please anybody but yourself. 🙂

  27. I'm glad you don't take offense to the simple thing anymore.  That has always been my favorite thing about your style – it's easy for anyone to pull off with the right pieces from their own closet.  Plus you shop at totally accessible places.  I love me some vintage-wearing bloggers, but I'm so NOT into vintage/thrifting that it's hard to get inspiration from them.  But I always know I can check you out & it's not something too crazy or unwearable.

AND…I'm wearing the exact same Target tank today.  Twinsies! :o)

  28. So I was my local news here in little Rhode Island and they were telling us about the new updates for Pinterest. And there you were! Smack dab in the middle of the Pinterest page on tv!! I thought it was pretty cool 🙂

  29. Kendi, I love this look on you! This is totally your signature style; simple and classic but with a twist. Seriously love it.

  30. I do love your style and the reason why I'm drawn to your blog and your style is not just the simplicity, but the fact that you choose pieces that I could find anywhere. I have a white tank, a white necklace, and instead of a blue midi skirt mine is green. I'm not able to do that on many other blogs where bloggers use very particular articles of clothing.

  31. That skirt is great!  Sometimes simple is best.

  32. If you ever get tired of carrying around that purse, I'll send you my address. 🙂 I can give it a really good second home. I'll take excellent care of it, I promise!

  33. i feel the same way!  especially with all of the arm parties going on these days, i feel like i need to accessorize to the max in order to stay current; when in reality, i should accessorize when i want to, when i think it feels right.  thanks for the reminder 🙂

  35. Simple is always the best. Unfortunately, I tend to go too far with that (read: I wear stretchy pants/shorts way too often). I need to try your chic way.

  36. I adore your style, it's super inspirational. I think "simple" is a huge compliment, you pull everything off so effortlessly!

  37. Love your style!! It is so timeless!!
The royal blue skirt is right up my alley! I think that it is my favorite piece out of this outfit!

  38. I love all components of this outfit. The blue is awesome. Mi need a skirt like this. That necklace is great. Very versatile.

  39. The updated look on your blog looks great.  As always I adore your looks especially this cobalt blue skirt.

  40. i've been following your blog for years now, and one of the reasons why your blog is my favourite is because i was able to relate to the way you dressed.  i love simplicity myself and therefore love your style!

    love that cobalt blue skirt!

  41. I totally know that feeling, but then I tell myself. I'm not a complicated person so why should my clothing be!? Simple or not, you look great! 🙂

    Wonderful and Marvelous

  42. Yes! I love what you wrote. I feel the exact same way about my style! Minimal fuss if possible. That's why I love your blog so much. Gorgeous yet relatable but still not really skipping on the spice. I've been a long time lurker for years (totally not creepy at all, right? hahaha) but today I just want you to know, hands down and without a doubt your blog is my favorite fashion blog to follow 🙂

  43. When glancing at the first picture I thought what a beautiful outfit, then when I scrolled down to the 2nd picture, I thought oh my gosh the skirt has pockets…I love it even more…With my petite size though I would prefer the skirt to be shorter. 🙂

  44. The simplicity is what makes your style/blog so wonderful!! I feel like I can look at what you wear and find a way to pull it off myself without investing in 900 different accessories and pieces. So inspirational! You make everything look effortless.

  45. Love this so much! This is why I follow you! White on white is such a great idea. Keep doing what your doing…its amazing and makes me happy everyday!

  46. Simple is always fine with me too! I don't like feeling fussy…if I put on too much, I always end up adjusting straps and sleeves and whatnot all day.

  47. I don't think simple is the right word… chic, maybe. Other bloggers try so hard to be "interesting" sometimes, when what's really beautiful is just a chic, simple outfit. I LOVE your style and the white-on-white. This outfit is so lovely! Keep on being you! 🙂

  48. I love your style because it is simple. It seems so much more natural. I often feel that some fashion bloggers simply throw on extras for a photo shoot and then revert to simpler outfits. Your outfits are simply beautiful. They look natural and chic, not forced. You should certainly take simple as a compliment. We all must love what you're doing to keep coming back! 🙂

  49. So true!  As a blogger I always feel like I need to amp up my outfits (because a lot of bloggers do), but then I think all the ampping would make me uncomfortable.

  50. I feel like we are style brain twins in this post. I am drawn to simple pieces as well, and although I admire and am inspired by those who can make an array of crazy pieces look chic, I don't translate that well into my own daily looks. Less is more, and especially in this post's outfit. I love it. Well played.

  51. I totally agree! Sometimes it is the negative space that makes the art really beautiful. In other words, less really CAN be more! One last one -paraphrasing CoCo Chanel – when accessorizing, take the last thing off. Great look – I love the blue and crisp white!

  52. Kendi, I love the simplicity of your outfits, and I think that's why your blog is so inspiring for the rest of us! You make dressing up look EASY. And in the end, isn't that what we all want? You just always manage to look effortlessly stunning.

  53. Simple is the best part of your blog. It makes your style very accessible and not intimidating. I love some other fashion bloggers, but their styles are intimidating! Your blog makes me feel like I can be fashionable!

  54. Love your simple style! I love fashion blogs but sometimes I look and think, I could not wear this feather skirt and 20 bangles with 6 necklaces in my everyday life. When I look at yours, I'm like yes I could go to work in this outfit and not be the crazy girl.

Where are the bracelets from (particularly the cuff)? I'm in love!

  55. found your site somehow, from i don't know where.. but, i've been obsessed ever since. {not in a creepy, stalkerish way.. just, i think you're way cool kind of way}. love your style and sarcasm! this is a happy place to visit~

  56. Love it! Simple can be cute, and your outfit is definitely simple and cute! (:

  57. I am personally a huge fan of simple. Especially in the summer, I mean really there's only so much you can do when it's 100 degrees. Your outfits definitely inspire me to just dress how I feel comfortable and in the trends I like. Your blog is wonderful and hilarious!

  58. I love simple!  I think this is why I love your blog so much because it can fit into everyday life and is do-able for me who is a mom and doesn't want to "lose" herself but not be over done either.  Bottom line is – your style is awesome!

  59. I know what you mean about not liking the comments on "your style is simple." At first I didn't like it either but I've realized that is kind of my style and I like that. It's …wait for it….simple! hehe 🙂

  60. I'd say your beautiful style is uncomplicated over simple.  Either way – I love it & your blog 🙂

  61. I love the white neckless on the white tank… now that is a fabulous idea I am pretty sure I would have never thought of! I just found your blog and I love your style just the way it is. I have learned, most of the time, less is more! xoxo

  62. The second photo in this post might be the best yet! I've read your blog for years but this one stopped me in my tracks! So pretty, so simple (in a good way).

  63. Awww… simple can also be lovely! Your outfit is adorable and that skirt in that beautiful color and design is all what you need to make everything stand out! Your outfits are always inspiring so, your style is already awesome as it is!

  64. i have that conversation with my closet everyday. i even tried to just wear jeans and a t-shirt today and had to put a necklace on. i try to over complicate outfits because then it shows i tried or something? anyway, you look lovely in this simply elegant outfit. i'll try to embrace the simple, even if it hurts. haha.
