As much as I’d like to say that after this post, I’ve got it all figured out — I don’t. I might have it even less figured out. You see, I’ve been frustrated with my blog for a little while now. (Who admits this right?) Frustrated is probably not the best word to use — well, actually it is. When you document your outfits for a good portion of three years, you really end up documenting your life. I’ve never realized how much of my emotions, personality, or life situations I put into dressing myself. I always just thought I liked clothes and that I was a lush so a blog was a good outlet for me, turns out I really do dress to how I live my life or how I’m feeling. (Side note: I went Emo (pre-hipster) for some time in college. This is a separate and glorious post that I owe you sometime.) It’s actually hard for me to go through my archives because I’ll deeply remember how hard a time of my life was or how happy it was, all by an outfit post. Without any more words than I share, I feel like you know me pretty well. Strangely, just by my clothes.

I think the hardest part of having a blog that people read is a) remembering that I’m just a normal person and b) hoping that everyone else remembers that I’m just a normal person, too. It’s hard to admit that I’m not an expert on everything that is style, that is owning your own business. I don’t really know that many things, but when I do figure something out I promise I share it with you. (I know, I know a sock bun tutorial IS in order.)

I’ve thought about it and mainly my frustration has been because I haven’t felt like myself on here in a while. I try to tell myself — so what? It’s just an outfit, get over it. But honestly, it’s a little bit more than just an outfit. In a weird way, it’s my life. It’s how I share with you a little bit of my life, a little bit of my personality, a little bit of how I feel. I know that when I look back on the last nine months of these posts, I might not always recognize myself. But today I’d like to.

I pulled these pants from my closet this morning to wear today. I’ve had for a few months now and I’ve worn them many times in real life just not in blog land. I followed these pants at Anthropologie for months because I knew they’d go on sale. Ain’t nobody gonna buy polka dot wide leg pants. Except for me, that is. So why have I never shared them with you before? Because I didn’t think Kendi Everyday would wear them. Kendi Skeen* would wear them. But Kendi Everyday — what would the internet say?

I hope you don’t hear offense in what I’m about to say but I’d like to be who I am today, no approval needed, and I’d like to wear these pants. Damn it. (The ‘damn it’ really adds a bit of class to this post, no?) And I’m pretty sure that’s going to be okay with you.

*Skeen is my last name, if there was any confusion there. It’s not Everyday.

  1. Oh my goodness I know exactly what you mean. But don’t worry, you are well-loved and I’m just absolutely sure that everyone will love these crazy pants (and therefore anything you do) as much as I do. You have a wonderful, supportive community that you have built. Don’t worry about being yourself because everything is okay.

Miahttp://www.miamoore.netP.S. — I was thinking about your 30 in 30 challenge and wanted to attempt something like that myself. Have you thought about bringing it back lately?

  2. I’m here to see what Kendi Skeen wears, not a web persona!  I love that you wear the same shirt all weekend without washing it… because that’s what we DO in the real world!

Keep it real, Kendi!  And keep on posting!

  3. Rock’em girl. I love that you can pull those off. I would be way too intimidated to wear them. I’m afraid of a pair of pants…what does that tell you? 🙂

  4. Not that you needed any approval..I just wanted to say that I absolutely love your outfit today! Tre Chic!

  5. Amen, Kendi Skeen! Rise up!

Also, thought I’d share with you my favorite quote (and mantra that I personally live by). “Remember always that you not only have the right to be an individual, you also have an obligation to be one.” -Eleanor Roosevelt

  6. 🙂 You always manage to look effortlessly pulled together and chic, but I really love it best when you wear what you want to wear. Who cares what the internet says!

  7. I love it!  Love the outfit, love the sock bun (I rock them almost every other day!), love the attitude, love it all!  Thank you for sharing a bit (or more than a bit) of yourself with us!  🙂

  8. Umm those pants are killer.  I used to always think that volume on top meant skinny on bottom or vice versa, but I’m totally down with an entirely flowy outfit like this now.  And you’re rocking it.

    1. I know what you mean with the volume thing — I’ve worn just a fitted white tee with them before and they were cute, too but I can literally let everything hang out in this shirt so this shirt wins. 😉

  9. i love this post, kendi. i know what you mean that sometimes we are afraid of what others think – we try to avoid those thoughts, but they are inevitable. i think what attracted me TO your blog in the first place was your sense of “realness” – i can and DO relate to you – polka dot wide leg pants and all (which i think are fabulous)… i think you should get back to that. it won’t be easy, but it will be worth it. 🙂

  10. Totally get the dressing for yourself. I have tons of clothes and I mean tons, some are eons old but I love them. They may not be very fashionable by todays trends but I like them and hell I am going to hang onto them! That said, there they hang in the wardrobe never seeing the light of day. I do a purge every season, sell what I can on EBay then treat myself to some new stuff or lightly used stuff.  Sometimes like today I put on something because I want to look feminine (and I get pretty sick of my jeans as they are my go to whenever the weather is pants or I just don’t have the confidence for anything else). But I have felt a little uncomfortable because it is MY style, not current, not what anyone else that I have seen today wearing. It is nothing outrageous, it’s just a black t tucked into a black skirt with white trim which makes me feel all 50’s. But I worry I look too young, or too twee or whatever (plus I am growing my hair and that is being a real pill at the moment).

I think you should wear what you like on YOUR blog. We follow because we like what we see. I don’t always like the outfits or they are something I just wouldn’t wear but that doesn’t mean they are wrong. We are all far too hard on ourselves aren’t we?

  11. I think Kendi Everyday should wear whatever the f*ck she wants to wear without a second thought about what The Internet thinks. Cause she’s fabulous and The Internet can sometimes be a punk.

  12. Good for you! I love this post and I love knowing that you don’t need approval from anyone to feel great!

  13. I have no problem at all with either Kendi Skeen or Kendi Everyday wearing these pants.  Be who you are and blog world be damned!  (There’s that class you mentioned earlier)

  14. It’s ok to wear things other people wouldn’t!  That’s what makes the world so interesting.

  15. Personal style is not about wearing the same stupid Michael Kors watch or head to tow J.Crew, it is about what you wear to live your life everyday. Rock those pants girl!!

  16. i know you aren’t looking for any praise or criticism. But I have to say, if you ever not want to own those AMAZING pants anymore…feel free to ship them to me! LOVE!

  17. you look perfectly lovely. and always do. i think that the best part about your blog is that you do seem real and down to earth and what you’re wearing isn’t always so far out of my price range that i can’t relate. keep it up and good luck getting back to what YOU feel is right, not what your readers feel is right for you.

  18. I absolutely love your style! This outfit is a very good example of why I would love to raid your closet! I think that it’s wonderful that you take the time to share with the world what you think and how you feel as interpreted through clothing. To me, it’s an art form and I respect you for it. : )

  19. Love those pants! And your necklace – Gorgeous!

  20. The pants look fantastic.  Love your blog, definitely one of my favorites.  Keep up the great work!

  21. As soon as this page started loading…before I even read anything you wrote I thought…”wow I love those pants!” Go with what you love…you are my go-to fashion blogger because of that. Thanks for doing what you do.

  22. I think you do a beautiful job showing us who you are.. I love your blog and all that you share… These pants are awesome and im glad kendi everyday and skeen are wearing them

  23. The thing for me that I love about you and your blog is that even in the simplest posts you come across in such a distinct and fun way. Your blog has always reminds me of conversations and email exchanges I have with my girlfriends. You feel real {I mean that in the non-creepiest way}, accessible and like a friend. Sure not every outfit is great, but I come here and continued to read more so for you then for the outfits!

But for the record, I do think this is one pretty rad outfit 🙂

  24. Kendi, really again that bun ughhh…I look at your blog everyday and I think it’s great but when you wear your hair like that it just kills me….

  25. I’ve followed your blog since 2010 and I too feel that your outfits started to be less “you.” Not that I know you irl, but it just seemed like you hit a path where all of your outfits were filled with c/o’s which is not a bad thing, but to me from an outsider point of view didn’t seem like the real you. Anyway, I still love your blog and I love your pants today:)

  26. We love you Kendi!  If you decided to put up stick figures or only wear sweats from here on out, I’d still be a reader!  You’re that enjoyable of a blogger!

  27. The funny thing is that when I saw the picture I thought “hmmm, that doesn’t look like a Kendie Everyday outfit.  But I really like it.”  Good for you!  And ps, you inspired me to buy (and wear) red lipstick!

  28. Kendi! I love those pants!! I had this problem with my blog, so I took a break from blogging. I miss it though. This post has inspired me, though. I may have a blog post today (because I am wearing a super cute dress 🙂 ). I love coming here and reading, no matter what the outfit. I love this one!!

  29. I have been reading your blog for a long time now and it is hands down my favorite blog to read. I look forward to it everyday. You’re cute, funny, realistic, and refreshing. I love those pants so much! Thanks for doing what you do and making my morning, multiple times a week!

  30. Good for you!!! as me and my friends online like to say… “it’smyblogandIcandowhatIwant!”

  31. Before I even read what you wrote I was going to comment about how I liked the pants then after i read what you wrote even more of a reason to tell you I like the pants!…haha

  32. I’m glad to see some personality in those pants! You are both clever and chic, but just like you said, this blog is your PERSONAL style, and that is what we come here to see, even if not every person is going to like every outfit 🙂

In fact, I’d love to see polka dot wide leg pants in a 30 for 30 remix if you’re feeling like a month of sassy outfits!

    xo Elisabeth

  33. This is one of my favorite outfits that you’ve worn in a while. ALSO, on a totally unrelated note… your sense of humor is honestly my favorite thing ever. When I started my blog and I had the “wait maybe I should be serious and talk about fashion and use fancy descriptive language all the time…” thought, I was reminded that I’ve always loved your blog because of how damn funny you are….not about how well you could describe an outfit. So sarcasm won out over the “wait maybe I should be serious…” nonsense. Because that’s the way it should be, right? Yeah.

  34. I have been following you since 2010, and girl, you have yourself figured out more than most people do. Everyone has bad moments, both online and offline. You NEVER fail to carry yourself with such grace that it’s hard to notice that you are ‘just another girl’. You’ve become a role model, and an icon, a fantastic blogger and friend to many.
I adore Kendi Everyday and Kendi Skeen equally.

And those pants. You keep’ rockin em’ girl.
You’re my inspiration to get dressed everyday and that’ll never change regardless of what you wear.

    LOVE you 🙂

  35. I LOVE these pants! You are rocking them! 🙂 And it can be hard to let yourself share you over what you think the Internet wants 😉 Glad you decided to share Kendi Skeen today 🙂

  36. Love the honest & up-front Kendi, I think that’s why I began following your fashion blog versus others, bc I like honesty with clothes and everything else.  It is what sets you apart from others and in the end what makes your outfits original instead of looking at a blog that looks like a j.crew catalog shoot.  Keep it up lady!!!

  37. I really love those pants. They’d cover up my pooch and flat, wide butt.

I’m tired of fashion bloggers who aren’t real. And there are SO many. I’m so tired of reading, “My skirt is very feminine so I decided to toughen it up with the leather jacket. I can see this skirt in heavy rotation in my closet.” And surprise, I NEVER see that skirt again.

I say, enough with the leather/lace nonsense and bring back the matchy matchy! Oh, and it’s really okay to wear earrings WHILE wearing a necklace.

You are REAL. Please stay that way.

  38. I, for one, love those pants. I would never wear them myself (because I’m a pansy and also I live in Georgia, where it’s too muggy to wear actual clothing), but they’re fun, unique, and you. And this is your (yes, you, Kendi Skeen) style blog. So wear what you want, because “haters gonna hate” (see exhibit a: http://bit.ly/MwGzXq ) and they don’t matter.

I’ve been following your blog for a good 2-3 years, and you’re one of the people who inspired me to start a fashion blog (which has morphed into a photography blog, because, let’s be honest, unlike you I was never really that good at dressing myself). I love your funny comments, your fabulous outfits, and your accessible style. Yes, for better or worse, your blog has changed over the years. I think this is understandable: I can’t imagine the pressure of 15,000+ people looking at my daily outfits, putting yourself on display even when you’re not feelin’ so hot, and having advertisers critique your blog, aka your life. However, as long as you’re happy with the changes that have taken place, don’t apologize for them. And if you’re not happy with something (which it sounds like you aren’t), take a step back, breathe, and figure out what you want.

  39. I am lusting after those pants!! So pretty! You should embrace Kendi Skeen. I love the look of this outfit. I would bet that you have fabulous style regardless (this outfit being my evidence). Dress for you. Dress in what you would wear. I am positive that your readers will embrace your style. I’d love to see what you feel is personally you.

  40. I loved the outfit first, and then the post that accompanied it.  We all visit here because we love what you share with us, so keep on keeping on.  You’ve inspired so many, including me!

  41. Kendi,
I have been following your blog for about two years now and I’m a huge fan of your style and clothes. I’m a fashion design major, clothes are my life. Don’t ever feel like you need to please anyone else with the way you dress. You dress great! Dress for yourself, not others. It will make you happier to do it, trust me! I know that because you are a fashion blogger, the whole point is to show others your outfits, but you still need to be you. We will accept your style and appreciate it! That is why we are all following your blog!!! 🙂
P.S. The pants are FABULOUS! 🙂

  42. I think you shouldn’t be afraid of being who you are in you blog and sharing as little or as much as you want. Isn’t that what blogs are about? Al least, that’s how I feel 🙂

  43. I love that you’re being so honest and sharing your heart with us. 🙂 And I think you rock those pants; totally love them! I’m going to echo the other comments and just say that I love following Kendi Skeen’s blog, not just Kendi Everyday’s. Embrace you!

  44. dude. this is YOUR blog. you should do with it what YOU want to. if we like it, well then: hip hip hooray! but you can’t, you really really can’t, worry about pleasing everybody and expect to not get burned out (burnt out?) or start to resent it. so from a completely selfish perspective, i say: do what you want! because i want your blog around.

  45. Those pants are to die for.  I’m dying I want them so bad.  Damn it.  Are they still at Anthro?  I’m going to scour the website.  I even swore off polka dots for all of last year – but I need these.  I also really love that HM top.  I wonder if they still have that too?  Ugh – more money to spend.  I love your blog, and you’re hilarious.

  46. This is a great post. As a fellow blogger, I know what you mean. Trying to reconcile the differnece between your blogging-persona and who you are in real life. I love that we’ve seen more of Kendi Skeen now, and I hope you will continue to show us more of yourself in the future, regardless of what the internet thinks. And I hope that I can do the same on my blog.

    xoxo

  47. This is my second time actually commenting (I don’t count entering contests because I like free stuff and there was an incentive, if that makes any sense).  You don’t need my approval or anybody else’s, but I really really LOVE your blog.  I am struggling with my blog too, but I only have four people that read it (if I blog at all, in all honesty because I get down on myself).  I can’t imagine the pressure that you are under.  And I LOVE those pants!  So basically, I am saying, Team Skeen all the way!  And, let’s be friends, because they no longer have those pants and I’d like to borrow 😉

  48. good pant choice for 2 reasons….1, they helped you get things off your chest, which i’m sure all of your readers commend you for, being you is the best part of life, blog, whatever! 2. they look amazing on you! Everyday or Skeen… they look good on both of these ladies 😉 share whatever you want to share.

  49. that whole thing ‘dance like no one is watching’….harder than it seems.  it’s what we want….but damn if you can turn off the little voices and just not give a hoot.  so HUGE kudos to you for having feelings on it and stating what none of us would typically take time to think about.

  50. i have read this blog for a long, long time and am commenting (is that a word) for the 1st time.

i like this place b/c it ‘feels’ like you don’t give a damn. like, “this is me. deal.” i think that is completely rad. i hope that you feel that you can actually be that way. don’t give 2 fudges about anyone or anything else. just do you.

wow. that was so not wise. hope you’ll forgive my way simplistic comment.

  51. Whether or not anyone thinks this outfit looks great or what the reactions are/will be, I’m just so happy for you that you felt comfortable showing off an outfit that YOU like no matter what. And I’m glad you feel comfortable enough with yourself to share your honest feelings with the rest of your followers. I’m sure it would be very easy to get caught up in judgement of others posting yourself out there everyday (what — that’s not your real last name?!! lol), but people sometimes forget that the bloggers are people, too – not just a nameless person wearing a pretty outfit. Kendi, you’ve really accomplished SO much, and even though I don’t know you personally, I have loved getting to know you through your posts. You are a good example to ladies out there that sometimes you just have to be and do what you like because YOU like it. And if it matters at all, I still think you look pretty darn awesome.

  52. Um, I love those pants. Unabashedly love them. (Sidenote: my husband and I were having a chat on a long road trip about things the 90’s gave us, and I said that my favorite was wacky pants, a la Gwen Stefani’s plaid hiphuggers from her No Doubt days, and the pink plaid ones Alicia Silverstone wore in Clueless, so I guess I am on record as a lover of wacky pants in general.)

  53. Kendi, I’ve been following your blog now for about a year but I’ve never commented. If any time felt like THE time it’s now. Your Blog has been an inspiration to me and obviously to so many others. And you know what? I freaking LOVE those pants! And I love the way you style them. Let the pieces speak to you and in turn you will create something amazing that speaks to your readers. You have a special gift of being able to create and design outfits around a unique piece like these pants. You don’t need approval from anyone but yourself, besides you can’t see our face reactions anyways ; ) (hee, kidding!). But really, you’ve long ago inspired me to start a blog (If I stop being afraid of it!) so thank you Kendi!

  54. I don’t know about anyone else, but I know I read your blog (and have been for a very long time) because I want to see  your personal style–not what sponsors send you, and not what’s trendy, and not what all the other bloggers are wearing. So keep it up, please! More of Kendi Skeen! Maybe you should even rename the blog?? Kidding. Don’t let any fears about what “the internet” thinks sap the fun from your fantastic blog.

  55. i think i really dig Kendi Skeen.  i mean, Miss Everyday is cool and all, but…she’s clearly trying to steal the spotlight.  and ps. IIIIIIII would buy polka dot pants.

  56. Go you! I think you look great, but that doesn’t matter. People have put you up on a pedestal, Kendi. I’m guilty myself. You got famous REAL fast with this little blog of yours. And I’m so happy for you! You’ve gotten to open a store – your dream! I just wish I had been myself more around you when we met, but guess what? I viewed you as a celebrity instead of a girl who likes clothes, just like me. Next time… 😉

  57. i admire and appreciate the care you put into what you post, and why you post it. you seem to be concerned about honesty and authenticity, which is great. i wonder if many bloggers consider their impact in the same way, or if they’re more concerned with making themselves look good or luring praise. all the same, i wouldn’t feel too guilty about putting up nicer, somewhat “unreal” things along with the ordinary, “real” things. i mean, aspiration is part of the reason people blog and read blogs, right? to be inspired to improve oneself in ways x, y, and z–because as we are, we’re good, but it’s nice to work towards new, other, and greater things, too.

  58. Holy Moses. I love following your blog and laughing at your charming wit Kendi, and I think that these particular pants make my Top 5 Kendi’s. So screw the internet; it was made for porn anyway.

  59. ahha or Sheen as some people think . right? I know what you mean about not always showing your true colours on the blog, more like whats trending instead. But just be you, that’s why we love you.

  60. I love this look. And you go girl! It’s totally hard with blogs sometimes to feel like you can do what you want and not what you feel like your readers want. But just know that I always love your posts! Every single outfit is inspirational! Now I want pilazzo pants (isn’t that what these pants are called?)

Today I’m wearing loose shorts with a loose shirt. Let’s be comfy in the maxi dress of separates, right?

    I heart you!

  61. Good for you, Kendi! I read your blog every day (though I don’t often comment) and I’ve always felt that you are so good at displaying personality in just a few short paragraphs. It’s actually one of the things I admire most about you as a blogger…and I’m sad to hear that you feel as though that personality isn’t always your own.

Honestly? Screw what “Kendi Everyday” is “supposed” to wear. You started this blog as Kendi Skeen. Be the real you, not some facade that you think might be more appealing, and your followers will love you all the more for it.

Also, for what it’s worth, I love these polka dot pants.

  62. More Kendi Skeen, please!! I think this outfit is a great example of YOUR style and I am crazy about it. It’s absolutely what drew me to your blog in the first place. Thanks for your honesty and all the inspiration you are to closets everywhere… especially mine. 🙂

  63. You know, I’d so much rather see what Kendi Skeen wears — and these wide leg polka dot pants?  They are just FUN. And don’t we all need some fun in our lives?

    xo, Yi-chia

  64. Kendi- You still put us to shame! You should see me in my nike shorts and Rangers shirt today.. No make up, dirty hair, glasses .. HOT MESS! You always look good stop being hard on yourself. I love these pants! Wish I was taller – I’d get lost in them.

  65. This is a common feeling from bloggers (I say that, as if I’ve polled every single blogger and they agree, but these facts are based on what myself and other blog friends have discussed) because it’s so tough to document our lives through outfits.  And yes, there’s a Kendi Everyday style and you have been very true to that.  The thing about style though, is that it evolves.  You’ve grown up so much in the years that I’ve “known” you…and look at you now!  A beautiful, young business woman, with great personal style.  Don’t get lost in what you think we’d like to see.  Just be you, because we think you’re pretty amazing!  And for the record, I LOVE those pants on you 🙂

  66. Thanks, Kendi SKEEN for this post, although I think in any case, that this is your fashion blog, and that being untraditional is great! Ps. I use to LOVE wearing these type of pants when I was younger, I remember them being the more comfortable pants as well as the most beautiful in all the land! 🙂

  67. Blogging can be an intense experience at times.  I went private a couple of years ago because it was more than I was ready for.  🙂

What a darling outfit!  My first thought was how breezy and comfortable it looked to have on.  You carry everything off, darlin’, ever so well!  And that was smart of you to watch for a sale on something most people would be afraid to try.  So cute, as usual!  You are such an inspiration.  I hope you continue blogging for a very long, long time.

  68. I’m so glad to see Kendi Skeen’s style on here, because I love your pants. I think you’d be surprised if you shared more of your Skeen-self, how positively people would respond. I decided this week that I’m going to incorporate more of my Indian clothing on the blog. It’s a part of my life, my culture, my heritage, not to mention a huge section of my wardrobe so why not show who I really am and celebrate it.

I hope this little experiment will be meaningful for you. And I honestly do love those pants. Wear them on and off the blog often. 🙂

    http://natashafatah.com

  69. This outfit is probably one of my favorites!  Those pants look incredibly comfortable. Love the pop of green with navy and your neutral shoes too.

I’m surprised you haven’t felt like yourself lately because I feel like the best part of your blog is how real you continue to be with your readers. So much personality comes out of your blog and it’s one of the few that I actually look at for the for the outfit pictures, as well as the witty paragraphs underneath.

  70. I don’t understand why you’re doing this to yourself. This is your personal style blog so you should always post what you want to wear! Why are you splitting your personality? All these people who check your blog everyday want to see YOU not some sunny simulacra you’ve whipped up to put on a good show. Be yourself! That’s the one thing no one else can be!
    –Vivienne

  71. Not only do we support you in this, but you look lovely in this outfit. I like to see all sides of you – not just what people on the intertubes says is “cool”. You just can’t please everyone all the time and you can’t be some perfect standard of fashion. None of us can! Some days I feel super-chic and some days I wanna dress like a dirty hippie. That’s just how it is!
    The pants are great, BTW.

  72. I think all of your readers, me included, would be happiest to see you be you on here. Doesn’t matter if every outfit is something we would personally wear – part of the enjoyment in following your blog or one like it is to see what *you* wear. Picking up bits and pieces of inspiration along the way is just icing on the cake. Damn it.

  73. Sorry to hear you’ve been frustrated with the blog. I think you should be who you are every day, not just today! Kendi Everyday and Kendi Skeen should be wearing the same things (if that makes sense).

  74. Well I can totally see Kendi Everyday wearing this outfit because it’s FABULOUS.  I thought that’s what it was all about around here :o)

In all seriousness, I’m glad you’ve had these few posts of reflection.  I see you in much the same way I see my favorite celebrities.  I mean, I know you’re not exactly on the same level of Brangelina (no offense) but I hope you know what I mean – I don’t actually know you but feel like I do through your blog/Instagram.  As I tend to do with celebrities, I had you on a bit of a pedestal in thinking that you probably look 100% fabulous every second of the day & are always happy & upbeat.  Obviously I know that’s not true but sometimes it’s hard to remember with you looking & sounding perfect all the time.  Thank you for reminding us that you too sometimes have hangups about your blog.  I have some of the same ones & I have a measly 34 followers.  I can’t imagine the pressure of having 15k.

I hope you continue to show us more of the “real” Kendi Skeen because she kicks some serious ass.

  75. First of all, I love this outfit on you. You look like a tall, effortless, glamorous drink of water 🙂 Secondly, thank you so much for your openness. I know this has been stated numerous times in the comments, but I support your Skeen-ness! It’s also nice to hear your experience. As a relatively new blogger, I have already found myself skipping outfit photos because I didn’t think they’d “work” for my blog. Okay, maybe the days I’m in pajamas don’t need to be on the internet, but why not the others?! Thanks for being a continuing source of inspiration…style and otherwise.

    ~C

  76. I hate those pants. I love this post.

This post reminds me why I started reading fashion blogs in the first place. It wasn’t to see perfect people looking impeccable every day. That has its place, but what I really want in a fashion blog is someone wearing what makes them feel good and having fun playing with their appearance. That’s what I’ve always liked in your blog – you seem like you’re enjoying yourself. I hope you find a way to keep that going.

  77. I love these pants! In fact, I have ones very similar that I purchased at Target a few months ago!

  78. Love the outfit, love the blog!  You are so great and a huge inspiration to me! Your awesome and keep doing what your doing!

  79. That’s awesome- you rock those pants girl!  I love em- I think sometimes in life cerain people brnig a certain side out of you..and that’s not always a bad thing.  Maybe the blog base will just have to transition with you and everything you want to express…that’s okay! We support you! xx. ellen

  80. Okay, I’m secretly relieved that somedays you just need to feel comfy. Just like somedays I’ll put on a flowy shirt and cardigan and think to myself “I bet someone’s going to ask me if I’m pregnant again.” And they do and I’m not, but sometimes I just want to wear my flowy shirt and I don’t care what anyone else thinks. When I’m feeling extra rebelious I’ll even pair it with homely flats.

We can’t all be fabulous all the time. Thanks for the honesty. Your blog brightens my day.

  81. Delurking for a moment…

I remember the early 90s iterations of palazzo pants. SO. COMFY. Thanks for reminding me that they’re also pretty damn cute.
Is everyone going to want to copy every outfit you post? Nope. And that’s ok. Do we, your readers, expect you to be super-awesome-pumped every time you post? Nope. And that’s ok, too. It’s hard to put yourself out there via a blog, especially when it’s something as personal as style. I think we all do appreciate what you publish here, and (almost always) remember that your writing & photos here are only part of who you are as a person.

  82. Well girlfriend I love those pants on you.  On me they would look absolutely horrendous, but I’m glad you can rock them.  And please keep coming back with more clothes that Kendi Skeen would wear!  Not everyone is going to love them all but you have 15 THOUSAND followers on this blog, and I have a feeling that most people aren’t following your blog soley for the wonderful outfits that Kendi Everyday puts together.  We like Kendi Skeen with her hilarious posts and her polka dot pants, too.

  83. I unsuscribed from a few fashion blogs recently because I was tired of seeing their boringly “perfect” outfits each day.  I’m all about seeing your personality and these are the posts I enjoy the most!  Especially because I think your pants are absolutely adorable! 🙂

  84. I started a blog not too long ago and have been following many blogs
    for
a good while now. I was scared to start a blog because as you know it’s
hard to put yourself out there and be yourself, but then I came across
your blog and it made me feel brave. I love your outfit posts and your
little blurbs about your day or why you are wearing what you are. The
one thing I have learned in a very short time is that people are going
to like what you post and people aren’t going to like what you post, but
if you like it than post it! Profound right? Sorry if this got preachy,
just wanted to cheer you up through the blogging world. And I really
like your pants! I have a pair of wide leg trousers with a funky pattern
on them that I love, so you are not alone out there! -Heidi

  85. Kendi, always feel free to be who you are on your blog, through the good, the bad and the ugly. Your readers will understand and continue to support you.

  86. Good for you, Kendi! I enjoy seeing bloggers put their own personality into their outfits. If you’re feeling like wearing polka dot wide legs, you damn well should! I think they look pretty awesome, personally.

  87. I follow a ton of fashion blogs (you were my first, aww) and I don’t follow them because I love every single thing each blogger wears. Even if I hate an outfit, there is always inspiration to be found…not that I’m saying I hate your outfit, cause I want those pants.

  88. I hope these posts don’t mean you’re going to stop blogging soon. I love Kendi Skeen!

  89. I can’t speak from firsthand experience, but putting yourself out there in a blog has got to be rough. I think you’re extremely brave to blog and also extremely talented at it. And I have to say, I read your blog daily not for the pretty pictures (though you look stunning in all of them) but for the personality in your posts! You could wear a belted garbage bag, and I’d still read what you had to say.

  90. This is my favorite outfit to date.  I like this Skeen girl.  More of her please.  More of you!  and thank you for sharing!

  91. I don’t care if you want to hear this or not: I LOVE YOUR OUTFITS; I LOVE WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THEM AND YOUR LIFE; YOUR BLOG IS FANTASTIC! 🙂 Keep it up, Kendi! http://katejones.me

  92. I totally know what you mean and how you are feeling. I have a travel blog about around the world travel that I started when my then boyfriend (now fiance) and I went on a round the world trip- three years ago. We have been back for two years and continue to blog about travel and give the small advice we have from traveling, but oftentimes i feel like – hey, I’m just a person, too. I make mistakes, I overpay for flights all. the. time. etc, etc.

Weirdly enough, I started following your blog- the one where you took pictures in your house, not the pretty, perfectly beautiful shots that accompany the blog now (which, i love btw, Bryan!) right around the time I started my travel blog. I liked you because you shopped a lot, you liked Anthropologie, and somehow even though we lived in different states, we shared a similar style, somehow picked the same Anthropologie clothes- two seasons late because we both bought them on sale. It’s strange to look at blogs, to “check in” with people every day and get a glimpse at their lives. It’s like you know a part of the person. Not the whole person and it’s exhausting sometimes!

I still follow your blog because I have loved watching your style morph, develop and stay true all at the same time. The truth is, I just like you. I hope you get to feeling more like yourself and feeling okay sharing that with your readers too. Even if you lost a few pageviews (and I don’t think that would actually happen), the loyal readers and internet friends will still love it.

  93. You are a real person who has real personal style, whatever you choose to wear will look great if you put forth all the confidence you have in a genuine manner. You could be wearing a grocery bag as a dress and if you wore it with confidence, I’d say, “Gosh, that woman is incredibly cool! She wears what she wants!” 😉

  94. Those pants are so cool! I love them!  And I know what you mean, sometimes I think to myself…hmm, is this good enough for “the blog” but then I decide “yes, who cares what they think if I like it” 🙂
    http://www.closet-fashionista.com/

  95. I am a long time comment-less voyeur of your blog but this post finally made me break my silence!  I really enjoy your blog and not purely because of your outfits, in fact my enjoyment mainly lies in your comments and stories.  It was a joy to come across your dry and quirky sense of humour when so many others take themselves too damn seriously (bringing some class into my comment ;o).  Keep working through that frustration and know that you’ll end up stronger and with a greater sense of who YOU are.

  96. So what if your pants are kinda crazy? The reason I follow your blog is because of your personality. I love reading your blog as much as your outfit. Your outfits inspire me to dress less boring because you can pull off everything you wear, even pants like these! Your readers wouldn’t want you to dress for your blog.

  97. This is your best post yet. Brava! And a huge LOL to the last name reference…”it’s not Everyday.” LOL I laughed so hard…in my silent office -___-

  98. Kendi–
I started reading your blog a few years ago- I read it everyday because it gives me ideas and makes me bold…I was always a boring dresser- you encouraged me to wear bright colors by giving examples, you showed that one piece can be worn in multiple ways while still looking normal.  i was always afraid to mix prints, but you did and it looked good, so I tried it.  I love the ideas you provide because they encourage me to test my own boundaries- Would I have bought wide leg patterned pants, probably not, but now I know I might be missing out!
Show what you wear and know you are making better dressers out of a few of us at least!

  99. you are fantastic! everyone dresses to how they’re feeling. that’s the beauty of clothes – they can express so much about a person. dress to make yourself happy and if anyone doesn’t like that, tell them not to look at your outfit! 🙂

  100. Style evolves because hopefully we, as people, evolve. I say embrace the change. My motto is if you’re not growing you’re stagnating. So grow Kendi grow! 😀

  101. Oh and I second those that appreciate you are not a “style blogger” but instead a small business owner who has a style blog. Brava to that! Also, I would say that you can do whatever you want with this damn blog bc you have a life outside of it gurl. And that’s to be applauded. Ok. Done commenting. 😀

  102. Being who you really are can be the toughest thing of all to be.  (and I actually LOVE the pants!)

  103. Kendi, the internet loves the wide leg polka dot pants…I promise. As a matter of fact, the interweb loves YOU. I have the same problem with my blog. I talk about fashion and post outfits, but sometimes I just want to be in leggings and flops [something I think is pretty unimpressive]. The fact is…I like that you want to be real. I feel like so many other bloggers that I use to follow [ones that are equal to your status] have sold out. With them, I started to feel like I was reading an advertisement. It’s never been that way with your blog. Thank you for the humor, the honesty and the personality that makes me want to approach you if I ever see you on the street…if you ever find yourself in England that is. 😉  I love Kendi Everyday…but I love Kendi Skeen too!

  104. I LOVE this outfit!  You should wave your polka-dotted, wide-legs pants weearing freak flag high today!  (not that I think you are a freak)  Also, I am dying over that necklace…might have to hop on over to H&M!

  105. I understand exactly how you feel. I’ve tried countless times to make a style blog… One that would reflect how I feel that day or how I have been feeling over a stretch of days. But, I never was able to pull through with it. It was because, I didn’t have an amazing camera, or an amazing photographer to help me take those photos. But it wasn’t just because I was afraid that people wouldn’t like my photos. The major reason was because I was afraid people wouldn’t like what I wore – that they wouldn’t understand why I dressed the way I did. That people would criticize me.

So in a way, we are similar, but, unlike me, you found the courage to make this blog, and to stick with it; so I congratulate you. You made this blog to express yourself. You found the strength to start this, so I hope that you would find the same strength to express who you are.

P.s. I love those polka-dotted pants and everything else you wear.

  106. Kendi, your honesty is why I, and probably everyone else, read your blog. You make me laugh everyday, sometimes you make me teary, sometimes you even make me want to buy polka dot wide leg pants. Always, you make me smile. Keep it up girl.

  107. I like Kendi Skeen more than Kendi Everyday. I love with with all of your class, but I love you even more with a little grit and truth. You are beautiful, Kendi!

  108. these posts scare me. i’m always waiting for the dreaded phrase where you explain why you’ve chosen to quit blogging. but you have such loyal fans and we wouldn’t let you. i think that because you have these fans you can wear as you wish.

  109. I can really relate to this post.  I am trying to start a new blog and I feel the same.  I am scared to let the people I already know in on it.  I do not know how to let people see the truly honest-real me on screen…but I cannot fake it either.  I really respect and admire all that you do on your blog. Your honesty is inspiring!

  110. I totally agree with Michelle a few comments before me. It’s so sad when my favorite bloggers retire! I love your polka dots pants! I think they’d look great with a black fitted tee as well (if I wore them, that is. Except I am 5 feet tall and I am not sure all the elements there would jive). But truly, what’s the point in having style if we can’t make it our own? I love your blog for your unique taste and artistic eye. You never have to explain yourself! But I do love that you share your personal stories with us, they are always endearing, relatable on some level, and tickle my funny bone. I love Kendi Skeen Everyday! There… I said it!

  111. Feel free to be whatever kind of Kendi you wish.  I know what you mean about what you’d really want to wear verses what’s expected of you by this reputation you’ve created for yourself, but you know what?  The hiccups are refreshing.  Many people think you are perfect, a stylish ideal that we should try to emulate.  The problem is that makes you less human.  I think Kendi the Human Being is awesome, even though I only know you through blog posts.  You need to feel better about your life through outfits?  Pop on over to Stylish Sass, because I am a hot mess.  I have had some major outfit failures and have overshared and have been frustrated about things and have had many of “those days,” but that’s actually me, and anyone who goes out of his/her way to see my corner of the blogosphere deserves to see the real me, even if they feel let down or underwhelmed.  You really awre a pioneer among style bloggers, and I hope you know that.  It doesn’t mean that we need you to be perfect.  You actually inspired me to start my own blog, but it wasn’t because you were perfect and always on.  It was because you were brave enough to put yourself out there.  There are several entries in my blog I’m tempted to take down, but those are the moments that show the world that I am a flawed human being.  Join us flawed human beings, Kendi.  We’ve got cute outfits and booze.

  112. I love your posts and how truly honest you are with your readers. To me, being honest, is a valuable quality to have as a person and a blogger. As for these pants- I love them and was just wishing I had a pair as well. I’d like to see more of Kendi Skeen because that’s who you are Everyday!

  113. I actually loooove the outfit! Which tells me that I think I love Kendi Skeen even more than Kendieveryday! You are always gorgeous and even if I couldn’t or wouldn’t wear an outfit that you post, I love seeing your style and the way you express yourself through your outfits. It’s what makes us individuals and not drones- right?! 🙂 Plus, I love the way you express yourself through your writing- completely real and relatable. So you just keep being Kendi Skeen and be proud enough to show that to the world through Kendi Everyday!

  114. I imagine the reason people were drawn to your blog in the first place is your authenticity. So, really, you’re giving your readers exactly what they want by wearing what’s right for you. Never second guess that.

  115. Kendi Everyday is a success because of Kendi Skeen, wide leg Anthro pants and all 😉

  116. There is nothing more awesome to me than a beautiful outfit that also feels like wearing pajamas. I LOVE this outfit!

  117. Kendi, I completely understand all that you shared in this post.   I do feel a lot of pressure in this world of fashion blogging too.  We see others who appear so perfectly put together all the time and then we scrutinize ourselves, our outfit choices, our approach to life and blogging.   I want you to know a couple of things.  One, I love your outfit in this post!   Two, your genuiness always shines thru Kendi Everday.  In fact, I have found myself thinking how cool it would be to hang out with you because you do seem so real.  Three, you have helped me so much with this post and the one a couple of weeks ago when you revealed that you needed to pause.  I was feeling so many similar feelings but thought it was because I wasn’t as fashionable, or as thin, or as good with photos as other bloggers.   I think the truth is we all doubt ourselves but the most important thing is just to take some time to reflect on what makes us uniquely us and just stay true to that .  I think you are such an amazing example of a girl who knows herself very well and who is always stunning because her beauty is authentic both inside and out.   I really like Kendi Skeen;)

  118. I love your blog. period. Whatever you decide to wear is your own personal choice. You don’t have to change for anyone or portray a certain type of person. Your blog is YOURS. I read your blog because I enjoy it, and your cute sense of style is just an added bonus! I do understand where you are coming from with the whole blog thing and having to portray a persona that you’ve created through it; however, you’re a great blogger, and these types of posts make you so relatable. Bloggers are human beings, and life isn’t as dandy as pictures may show. You in no way owe the readers anything. It’s okay to be yourself because that’s why readers love you! I personally love your blog because of your posts! You have such personality that shines through your writing. You’re probably one of the only blogs that when I read it, I laugh…out loud. So, keep being Kendi Skeen!! You rock! (:

P.S. those pants..are amazzzzzzzzing! They look awesome on you. (:

  119. I like your pants and everything else you said. It’s all cool man, it’s all cool. Be who you are.

  120. WOW! You can go on and on and on ;)…seriously though you look gorgeous as usually whether you’re Kendi Skeen or Kendi Everyday. What brings me back to your blog everyday is that you are just so wonderfully, beautifully normal!! I always feel like I can relate to what you’re saying and you’re a kick to boot! So I guess it must be strange to know that so many people are looking at you and making connections to your pictures but I just have to say that whatever you are doing…it’s working girl, and I’m looking forward to many more posts, quips and pics! Peace

  121. This whole outfit is very “Kendi”! I do understand where you are coming from though…many of my simple outfits go un-blogged because I don’t think they are internet worthy. But, I’m slowly learning that part of blogging is sharing the exciting as well as the unexciting aspects of life. keep on blogging…you posts are always funny and inspiring!

  122. I actually like those pants on you. This is your blog and your space and you can do what you like. Dont let anyone stop you.

  123. But wait- we don’t want you to feel like you have to stay in a time warp and never try new styles or FANtastic pants (love them!) Please don’t let your blog make you feel boxed in- wear what you want and if you like it, you followers probably will too.

Lots of love from an ex-Texan.

  124. i really love this post and how transparent you are with your readers! I have only been fashion blogging for a year and sometimes I take mini breaks to give myself some time off when I begin to feel the presure and not dress or write like myself. I love those pants on you girl. You are beautiful and have great style 🙂

  125. Oh Kendi.  I, like thousands of other ladies out there, am a regular reader of your blog.  I have to say, your style is very nice and all but honestly what keeps bringing me back is your humor and (especially as of late) your honesty.  I really appreciate a blogger who is real and tangible.  In fact, I did a blog post somewhat similar to this one called What’s In a Blog?  On my blog, I do fashion of course, but I am also pretty blunt.  And profane.  And perhaps a little ghetto.  It happens.  But I also like to acknowledge the good days and the happy moments.  And I think that when you are real with people, it is a lot more relateable and they are able to see you as a real person.   Thank you for all the work you put into your blog.  The blog world wouldn’t be the same without ya.

  126. To have a blog, and put yourself out there everyday, you have to be true to yourself. And I for one feel that’s what you’ve done every time I read your blog! And, if Kendi Skeen wants to wear wide leg, polka dot pants, then she’s being true to herself! Wear them proudly! They’re awesome, just like you!!
    http://akstylemyway.blogspot.com/

  127. While I can’t comment from the the blogsphere as Gina Gales, I can say that as a layperson I completely understand.  Why just this morning I found myself fitting with the closet – it’s a walk-in so it can be a strong lady sometimes.  I was struggling with being the “business and professional” Jenna, being “the vintage” Jenna, being the Jenna “who has to compete with her friends that make more than she does and get to buy nice and expensive clothes”, and the “why can’t I just be like Kendi and Jessica and Keiko and Kim and Helena and Erin and look so put together all the time.”  I like to be me sometimes too and I like that you can be you too.  So don’t stop and keep up with posts like this.  I know they probably aren’t easy but it makes you seem real… to me.  And the pants totally rock.  Definitely worth the wait for the sale!

  128. What I’m about to say is almost blasphemous (coming from another style blogger) but you are more than your clothes. Personally I started following your blog because you write so well, not because of the clothes. You make me smile and even laugh out loud some days. Sure I look at the clothes and you’ve got some great style ideas, but overall I’m hanging around to see what you will write next.

    Bisous
    Suzannehttp://bisous.typepad.com/bisous/

  129. I’d just like to say, I like the blog more when it’s less pristine and polished. And if we could get a little of the old “Better Off Wed” wit here every now and then, all the better.

  130. I always have loved your blog because I feel like you are so open and honest (and funny about it).  I like that it’s more than just pictures with you, unlike some other fashion blogs.  You rock those wide leg pants girl! xoxo

  131. I have a hard time being honest on my blog, especially when I’m just not feeling as chipper or confident as usual. So, KUDOS to you. Thanks for inspiring me. 🙂

  132. I find it so surprising that you monitor what you would normally wear and file it into everyday wear, so weird but I do that too! I’m definitely working on trying to post more of my funkier/weirder/more me outfits as well. I love the polka dots, they make the entire ensemble retro chic!

    xoxo,

  133. I appreciate your self-awareness, Kendi. You could teach us all a thing or two about living on purpose. We can start with our clothing decisions and conquer from there. Thanks for the inspiration and for reminding me how good wide-legged pants make the thighs look.

  134. I began following your blog just recently and fell in love with it right away!  When I first started reading this post today, I was worried you were going to say that you were going to stop blogging and I would have shouted, “Noooo!” at the screen.  I am a local, I live in Rockwall, and plan on doing a little shopping at Bloom!  Being real is what drew me in!

  135. Although your style is incredible, I enjoy following your blog for your witty remarks and story telling. I’m pretty sure if you didn’t have Bloom you could be a writer. I have often found myself laughing out loud from reading your posts. You have inspired me countless times by your 30×30 remixes and everyday outfits, but most of all you make me laugh.
    So thank you.

    Lindsay @ LindsayJEveryday.blogspot.com

  136. Thank you so much for sharing this! I think it’s so hard to write and share images of yourself. It’s so tempting to always include the “I’m still just a normal person! I don’t really think of myself seriously!” disclaimer.

Your blog inspired me to start posting my own outfit pictures- something that would have been terrifying to me before I joined your readership in the last 8 months or so.

Here it is! My own attempt at a fashion philosophy, hugely inspired by your blog and openness:

     http://erinmaydavis.wordpress.com/2012/07/25/erins-fashion-philosophy/

  137. The “ready or not” has been missing from your outfits, but I just figured it was because you were focusing so much on  Bloom.  If you dare to fly your freak flag (or wear your semi-freaky arm band) there is one reader who would love to see it!  (And, I’m quite certain, thousands others).  You’ve looked fashionable and beautiful but I think I picked up on this disconnect.  In conclusion: LOVE the pajama pant.  You kick ass.

  138. This is probably one of my most favorite recent outfits! Thank you for sharing the “real you” because I still find it inspiring and so darn funny. You always brighten my day and make me reach for the piece of clothing that is going to make me feel good and express me.

  139. Thanks for opening up…you know we’re going to start charging you soon, right?

I’m sure you could parade around in your pjs and we’d be ok with it! ; )

  140. Thanks so much for your honest and open words! I’m sure it’s pretty difficult to share your life with so many people you’ve never met and that don’t actually know you. And I just want to add to things: I love the fact that you have an “non-internet-non-blog-life”, a real life like you called it, that’s very important, I don’t think the internet (community, etc.) should be the only thing in one’s life. And, the second thing: I really like the “real life Kendi”, the not “Kendi-Everyday”-Kendi (not saying that I don’t love the outfits you show here, I really love your blog, it was one of the first I read!), I would really have no problem with seeing some more outfits like these amazing, very comfy looking polka dot pants 😉

    xxx Anita

  141. I love your pants!  and your top.  and your shoes, purse and necklace.  I think you have great taste, but you also rock whatever you wear.

  142. kendi i think you are doing one HELL of a job.  i also think you have badass taste in pants! i stocked those anthro pants too and by the time i got to the store they were out of my size.  curses!

  143. Love your pants, and you should definitely wear them or whatever else makes you happy (or not happy, whatever it is you’re feeling). Like you said: clothes are part of who we (I’m in your camp here) are and we should let them reflect that. There’ll always be someone who doesn’t like it, but I’d like to never be someone who says “I was I was brave enough to wear…” There are plenty of other things that scare me, my clothes should not!

  144. i only did a blog for about 6 months and had to quit. it’s just a lot of pressure, no? and i only had like 100 people looking at mine, not thousands. so i feel ya! also, before i read this post, when i saw those pictures, my first thought was (no lie), “those are the cutest pants i ever did see!” thanks for keeping it real, kendi!

  145. Kendie, you could probably start wearing paper bags and we would still come read what you had to say about them! And there’d be some people that LOVE the paper bag look as much as you…So just go with it! 🙂

    Life etc

  146. Well I love your pants. (that sounds so wrong now I have wrote it down but I’m sure you know what I mean)  We can’t help but dress for how we feel, its how we show our emotions and true self.

Loving your blog and the fact you are you and not trying to please others who read it.

    X x

I am pretty sure most of your readers (myself included) religiously read your blog because of your witty banter and inspiring career/marriage…
Never feel that you have to sugar-coat your life, we are your followers through the good and bad times, the “runway worthy outfits” and the “Fat-man lazy pants” (admit it, you own a pair!!)
You want to look back on this blog on years to come and be able to reflect on it like you would a journal….. Keep your head high and be true to yourself…
    I think your wonderful x

  148. love this. you have a fan in me that would much rather see what the real kendi wants to wear instead of what blog kendi might think she has to.  i started following you a long time ago because a) you’re hilarious, and b) you (you!) have great style, so please keep being yourself!

  149. Dr. Geisel said it best: “Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.” Keep on doing you, Kendi. Love your blog.

  150. Gorgeous as always. You’ve been my favorite blog since before I started blogging myself, and that has never changed, and probably never will – I mean, you’re going to be posting your outfits into your 70s, right? K, good.  <3 The Daily Dani

  151. Dear Kendi –

90% of the time when I read your blog I’m in gym shorts/yoga pants and a tshirt.  I’m known from time to time to wear a little too much sparkle (think sequined dangle earrings from the 80’s that my grandma bought in Mexico) and I’ve been known to rock cowboy boots at a wedding.  I don’t read your blog to judge what you’re wearing (because Lord knows I could not pull off those outfits with a tenth of the panache that you do).  I read it because it brings me cheer.  You are quirky and not afraid to show it. Had you not mentioned the wide legged pants, I would not have thought a thing about them other than – that is so Kendi!  I’ve been being a little more real on my blog and while that can be scary, it makes me feel better about myself.  So please, keep rocking the wide legged polka dot pants. They look ridiculously comfy and chic.

  152. Kendi, I’m from New Zealand, for God’s sake, and I’ve been following your blog for a couple of months. Wear what ever the hell you want and say what ever the hell you want. It’s all good. That is all. xo

  153. funny cause the first thing I thought was “only Kendi could wear those pants!”  because your legs are so long and thin and can totally pull them off!  I would have looked at them, but known better…glad you shared them with us cause I think it’s a great outfit!!

It’s hard when you feel like you aren’t, or can’t be, totally yourself…my hubby and I have even had that as a root of a few arguments over the years…that one of us has “stiffled” the other in some area to the point where he/me feels like “I just can’t say/do/be who I am when it comes to this/that!”  Needless to say, it always breaks my heart if that’s the real issue and I get on the boat to change my attitude so he can always be himself…completely…

So, I don’t have any mind boggling advice, but I do believe just sharing how you feel will make things better 🙂  Honesty really is the best policy 🙂  We’ll be here 🙂  (three smileys in a row…nice!)

  154. I think you look precious. And I love the pants–truly. And you inspire lots of people to shop their closets for new and exciting ways to wear the stuff they already have (even a 40 yo sahm like me!)

  155. Kendi, I would have never known this was something you wouldn’t think to share in blog world. (I would actually wear something like that in blog world but not as much in real life). I’ve started a blog (www.kbunnylove.blogspot.com) I have three whole followers, but I started doing outfit posts because of you. I feel like I finally have something to GET dressed for. But know that you’re doing something more than just putting on outfits. You’re being an inspiration!

  156. I have polka dot wide leg pants!  I did feel the same way as you about them when I bought them though – what will people think? – then I quickly realized that I wasn’t buying the pants for “people”, I was buying them for me…and I love them! and I love yours too!

  157. Honest, open and lovely…. the post and you.  You’re awesome.  Thanks for being willing to put “it” out there.  I’ve been trying to be better about that myself.

  158. Love it!  And also – have a pair of polka dot palazzo pants and I have not worn them yet but your post – yah they will be on me this weekend!  Thank you!

  159. I was going to write a long response to this post but I think the best thing to say is wear whatever you want! We all appreciate your honesty and want you to be able to be yourself!
    ~Jessica

  160. The only thing I know about style is from your blog. So. Are polka dot pants bad? They look great on you!

  161. Why would you wear anything but that which reflects who you are?  To thine own self be true, as Mr. Shakespeare so eloquently states.  Then and then only are true beauty and style made evident.

  162. Wait wait I must be on the wrong site. I thought this was Kendi Sheens blog. The girl who told a customer WHY NOT wear that. The girl who has not only taught us about fashion but taught us how to be comfortable in wearing things that make use feel good about who we are and YES WE CAN wear that. We not only love the cloths but we love the person in the cloths no matter the cloths.  You make us laugh and cry. So YES YOU CAN wear those dotted pants. You have accomplished a lot at 27 more than most will in a lifetime. Keep it up Kendi Everyday Skeen.

  163. OK I saw the first picture and thought I loved the outfit. I loved the pants. I scrolled back up to see where you got them.  Then I thought how great you look. Then  I got to your words. I had all those reactions prior to reading.   I’m not sure why you say you don’t think Kendi Everyday would wear these.  Also you do share very little about yourself but also share a lot. I do notice in writing style and outfits changes.  Not just with you but with a few of the blogs I have read consistently.

I’m sorry you are still going through a tough time. I have enjoyed you sharing a little bit more lately.  I haven’t been commenting much since you get in the hundreds of comments daily and I have no idea how you have time to read them and if I just have a comment about loving an outfit or some standard reaction everyone is having, then I don’t leave it.

  164. These pants are fabulous! I could NEVER pull them off–so I admire you even more for wearing them! I think knowing that in them you are “you” makes the outfit look even better!
    Love the green necklace, too!

  165. I really love your style – but your writing is actually what makes your blog so enjoyable.
So I especially love some of the posts you’ve had lately – I hope you never receive flack for encouraging other people to just be who they are. Kendi Skeen is my favourite.

  166. Kendi, your pants are great. They’re probably better than great- more like comfy and flowy at the same time, which makes them a dream.
Blogs are a weird place to express who you are as a person. When a blog gets popular it can feel like there are expectations of who you should be. Ignore those. Your blog is great. It inspires me to wear what I want to wear, when I want to wear it and not give a damn. I love the posts where you say you’ve been wearing the same stripped shirt all weekend. Sometimes I wear the same dress all weekend. It’s easy and I feel pretty in it, so who cares? Sometimes I wear weird things that my boyfriend cringes at (and probably the general public too), but I like them because I like them and that’s all there is to it. You should post what you want to post with no pressure to be Kendi Everyday. After all, Kendi Everyday started as you sharing your style. Maybe Ms. Everyday has a lot more fans nowadays, but it’s still your creation. If you start posting pictures of you wearing burlap sacks, I’m pretty sure your blog will still be interesting. Dress and post for you.

  167. I am all for seeing what Kendi Skeen wears every day 🙂 My mom will always tell me if I’m wearing an outfit that’s “not me” – which I am incredibly grateful for! It’s hard to keep up with dressing like yourself when you just like to “dress” in general. Be yourself! From what I know about you as a person (our occasional encounters at the Street/Bloom), you are pretty freakin’ awesome.

I just want to warn you, this next comment is coming from my weird obsessive teenage side, but it’s 100% from the heart. I am kind of obsessed with you and your life. And you are my idol and I totally want to be you. I even told twitter. My “Kendi is perfect and I love her” tweet was followed by “I hope Kendi doesn’t read this and think I’m creepy”. Which you probably do. I’m probably saying way too much. Please don’t call security next time I’m in the shop.

Anyways, just know that you are a pretty special person, no matter what you wear or what you post on your blog. At least to me (and obviously a ton of other people). 🙂

    Your creepy teenage friend,
    Gabby

  168. kendi,
i’m sure this was hard for you to write and i can tell that it is very heartfelt.  thank you for your honesty.  personally, i like to see what people really wear, so i’m glad you shared a kendi skeen outfit.  more would be welcome!

ps i can see why you would buy those pants, they look so comfy!

    xo julesinflats.blogspot.com

  169. I just discovered your blog, and I love every outfit!  Including the polka dot pants 😉  Thanks for being so honest about blog persona vs. real life.  I am trying to find my own personal style (and beginning to blog about it) and I think it’s an important distinction to make.
Thanks for all the great style inspiration!

  170. As soon as I saw this outfit, I loved it.  I’m actually a bit surprised that I love polka dot pants.  But you’ve definitely pulled it off in the most sophisticated way.  Thanks for you honesty here.  I hope you dress everyday for you and not for “us” out here.   And I’m all for the sock bun.  Huge sock bun fan here.  It makes it look like I actually have hair.

  171. Funny things is, this is one of the first outifts of yours that I thought, “I could so wear that!” Those pants are great!

  172. I lurve these pants! You look great! In fact I love the whole outfit, the white swingy tank and the jade green necklace. I am going to look for fabric to sew these pants, wish me luck fabric hunting! By the way, you have wonderful style, whether you are Kendi Everyday or Kendi Skeen 🙂 though I suspect they are one and the same sweet person!

  173. When I look at all of your amazing outfits and how put together and stylish you are, I have to admit I hoped that there was a day or even part of the day where it was yoga pants and a college t-shirt!  :)You’re style and sense of humor is fabulous!  I love you’re blog and your honesty.

  174. Kendi, you can save your dress socks for a rainy day when you’re actually not wearing heels. No more sock cutting and rolling, H&M sells spongey doughnuts for your hair. No more cutting and bunning our socks! I know I bought a couple!

  175. Kendi – I’ve followed you for a long time…and not necessarily because I think of you as an awesome fashionista (because you are!), but because I LOVE your personality. Your quirkiness and humor in your short posts puts a smile on my face everyday. For that, I thank you. Be yourself, damn it. And never be ashamed of it – polka dot wide leg pants and all!

    – Emily

  176. work it hunnaaaaay! (sassy voice here). i saw these pants, and i was caught off guard, but not because i didn’t like them, but because WOW! this outfit is so different from “kendi everyday” and i love the change-up! thanks for being you! also, this is great inspiration for any of us who may care too much about the opinions of others and not let our true colors fly. love this.

  177. I seriously can’t believe these pants are the first post I’ve commented on, but I just had to say I loved this post! I don’t think I could pull these off but I love that Kendi Skeen does regardless of what ‘Kendi everyday’ would wear.

Thanks for keeping it real 🙂

  178. Kendi-

    Just so you know:

    1) I love your polka dot wide leg pants.  I will wear my insanely-wide-leg jeans (that i’ve been too scared to wear) that I got from Anthropologie on sale (marked down from $118 to $20- poor little reject pants) in your honor this weekend.
    2) I love Kendi Skeen– she’s welcome on Kendi Everyday ANY day! (assuming I have the authority to extend that invite.) Also, I am glad to hear you think we (your internet friends) know you pretty well… because I’ve long felt I know you pretty well just through your clothes, so I’m glad we are on the same page now.  Just don’t be alarmed if I ever see you in person and I run up to you yelling “HEY!! KENDI!?! IT’S ME KAITLIN!! HEY!!!” while waving my arms frantically overhead.  That’s what I do to my friends when I see them in public, and I’m sure I’ll forget in the moment that we’ve never actually met.
    3) You’ve been a friend of mine since before I wrote my first and only other comment to your blog two years ago when I was beginning the hardest job of my life.  When I say hard, I mean I cried every day, lost 10 pounds (not a bad deal in the end), and suffered night terrors regularly for two years.  I would read your blog while panic-eating at lunch, and it was the best five minutes of my day (I taught high school…and I know it sounds a bit dramatic, but trust me… it was HARD).  My point is that I’ll be your friend through polka dot wide leg pants.  Shoot girl you could wear polka dot wide legged onesie denim overalls and i’m sure you’d look fab. You’ve been my friend through much worse.  I owe you.
    4) Every day we affect others. We smile. We switch lanes. We tip an extra 20%. We eat the last granola bar at work.  It’s inevitable. And I’ve always thought, if I’m going to influence others’ days one way or the other by my interactions with them, I want to influence those days for the better, not the worse.  Through your blog, you influence thousands of readers’ days for the better.  Even if its just for a five-minute panic lunch.  That’s something.  I hope your blog only ever influences your day positively as well.  But if some days it doesn’t- skip it. You deserve it! We (your internet friends) will be here when you come back.

Keep on keepin’ on, Kendi, and thanks.

  179. Thanks for sharing your pants and your feelings!  You’re fashionable but also very relatable.  I hope you’ll wear more things that you normally wear in your daily life.  I love it all!

  180. Kendi, I haven’t even read the other comments on here yet, because I know I’ll probably be repeating what everyone else has said a million times…
Basically, I hate to break it to you, but you’re stuck with us! All of us avid readers, we love you… whether we agree with an outfit you wear one day or not, it’s not what keeps us hooked. Your wittiness, your candid views on outfits and your life, your ability to make fun of yourself but still to radiate confidence, THOSE are the reasons your blog is so popular and why you have so many adoring fans. PLUS you have an amazing sense of style to boot.
I’ll admit it, not a HUGE fan of the pants, but guess what, still a HUGE fan of you! And that won’t change whether you’re being Kendi Skeen or Kendi Everyday.

  181. Hi Kendi! I’m a long-time reader, but I honestly can’t remember if I have ever commented before. But I just want to say that I LOVE your blog, and it’s more about your writing and stories than your clothes. I’m pretty sure most – if not ALL – of your readers are more interested in Kendi Skeen than Kendi Everyday too – no matter what that ends up meaning or being. Wear/write/say/blog/do whatever makes YOU happiest, and we will all appreciate you even more for your honesty. 🙂

  182. I appreciate your honesty so much! Like many of the commenters, but we all love who you are as a person, not just a face in pictures! You’ve been such an inspiration to me with your style, as well as inspiring me to start a blog of my own! By the way, I love the pants 🙂

  183. Listen Kendi whatever-your-last-name-REALLY-is, I think we all can agree that we enjoy your normal self + your posts very much. And if you think that pulling out these wide-legged polka-dotted reject sales-rack Anthropologie pants that I would probably pass by, but somehow you happen to rock very well, is going to stop all of us from enjoying your blogosphere then missy you are wrong. Very wrong, damn it!!

  184. There is no shame in wearing those polka dot wide leg pants. Or about having feelings. You’re awesome.

  185. Hi Kendi, I don’t believe I have actually ever commented on you blog, but I have read it for years. I love your sense of humour and your style, just wanted to let ya know, that is all!

  186. This post is awesome…and so are those pants! Wear whatever you want…you ALWAYS look great anyways 🙂

  187. I’m starting my blog and honestely I can learn from this post more than a milion blogs I’ve been visiting lately. Most of the time when we question our work is that because we are going through a transition phase and I like to believe that you are about to find groth and sucess on your way.

  188. I love those pants.  I love reading what you wrote and I’d still read your blog if I didn’t like one of your outfits, there’s always another day to come. I read your blogs for your voice, your clothes just help add a little more viewable personality behind that voice.

  189. I think style is less about what you wear and more about how you wear it. Kendi, you always wear it with attitude, and that’s what makes your blog so great. Like others have said, your commentary is half the fun!

    calicocolored.blogspot.com

  190. I love your outfit! If that is who you really are, then please, be like that everyday 🙂

  191. Great post. I love the pants & they look fantastic on you. So glad you gave these pants a chance! 😉 you've always been genuine in your blog & I think your readers know that.
P.S. what do you mean your last name isn't Every Day??? 🙂

  192. I think Aymara got it right:  ‘Miss Everyday, the internet LOVES you!  You could put a turd on your head and we’d still love you.  I think.’ I’ll just add that those pants are spectacular.

  193. Well, you already have 259 comments that probably say the same thing, but I just thought that you should know that I too love your pants and you! I was very excited when I saw the pictures–it’s the “be what you want to be” Kendi that I miss! Not that I haven’t loved your outfits for the last few months because I totally have! You are the first blogger that made me want to go “thrifting” and try things that I wouldn’t normally try if I were being “safe”. And your WRITING. Your wit and humor always keep me coming back! You are great, Kendi Skeen.

P.S. I’ve been secretly planning to ambush you in McKinney the next time I drive through DFW. I live in Lubbock and have been wanting to make a trip to the big city!

  194. I've always loved your blog for your effortless but unique style. Love the realness. makes me want to read more, not less. its your blog, you can cry if you want to (or wear ridiculous outfits that only you can pull off)! i'll follow any fashion trends kendi everyday (skeen) starts. 😉

  195. …love loss and what i wore by ilene beckerman…great book…a play by the sisters ephron based on this book…a great play…rosie o’donnell kills!!!…you are not the only one with these feeling so you are not alone…and that you need to whine a little every so often about life…you are not alone…and that you think you are the only one who has a thing for quirky pants…again you are not alone…reality can be a little tough sometimes…retail is definitely tough a lot of sometimes(traditionally october is the month of cleaning up and organizing the store like never before cause sales tend to be at the slowest) and putting your cute sweet self out there everyday so millions can check you out…is probably tough…but you do it and you do it everyday…and you do it well…but its what you choose to do, no!?!…so if its to the point where its too much…step back…re- evaluate…re-group and ask yourself  if this is the thing you want to do…if it is then carry on… if not…then find what you need/want…from following your words regularly…you seem to have tons of support, a loving mother(she still hems your dresses and pants!!!) a most supportive husband/best friend…and 263 people who took the time to listen and care…please consider this the tough love portion of your comments from an older experienced wearer of the quirkier things in the closet…roxana montero/…mad lion gallery

  196. It’s hard to share your feelings with hundreds of people and have them judge. My blog is so small, I get excited when someone comments because that means someone out there is reading my words and I’m not just alone on blog island. Try to remember that a low point does pass, have faith.

  197. I’ve been a Kendi Everyday devotee for a while now, but I want you to know how important it’s become in my life.  I just moved to Bangladesh; I’m a little blonde girl who has never been much of a style risk taker, and now I spend all day wearing crazy patterned salwar kameez (my pants today are bright yellow and have a floral vine print all over, just so you know), running around streets filled with garbage and rickshaws, and working on a childhood pneumonia study. I come back to my apartment everyday to check out your cute outfit, get a good giggle, and be reminded that there is still a lot of beauty and humor in this world.  I keep reading because I like your personality and your message and your encouragement, not just your clothes.

Also, just so you know, the institute I work through has blocked your website, so I’m not even the only person in Dhaka who’s been trying to read it during the work day.  You’ve got quite the international following!

  198. Kendi, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this outfit. It looks so amazingly simple but yet pulled together!!

  199. I also not sure if I have ever posted a comment on your blog before but have been reading it since well, 2010.  First of all I want to say that some of your outfits, I would not have the balls to wear (not that I have balls).  Even Miss Everyday has taken risks that make me reconsider the outfits I own and how I wear them. The reason you are successful at this is not because of your ability to pull together polished looks (regardless of the print, fabric, or cut of a garment) but because of your confidence and poise while in the outfit. I know that my attitudes of the day can be seen in my outfits.  I have a belief that if you wake up on the wrong side of the bed put on an outfit that you know you look smoking in.  That way, doesn’t matter how the rest of your day goes, at least you know you look AMAZING.

Now onto those pants.  I love wide leg pants. I love polkadots.  I love wide leg polkadot pants.  I wish I would have known about them before they were sold out in my size.

    Keep on trucking miss Kendi.

  200. You go Kendi – be yourself – I think they are freaking adorable and I wish I would’ve found them!!

  201. These pants are pretty damn (see what I did there?) great, and so are you. I don’t know about these hundreds of other posters, but I will always read your blog, even if you have a “Kendi sweatpants” day, and post a picture of it. Actually, I might even like that 😛

  202. I know approval is not needed but I LOVE those pants.  They are like chic pajama’s (and I mean that in the best way possible – who doesn’t love pj pants!)

Love that you are showing yourself off.  That’s the whole point of the blogosphere anyways.  🙂

    xoxo
    http://loveyourclothesloveyourself.com

  203. I think I can see a difference in how you feel in this outfit. You look comfortable and thus embody  “effortless chic”.  I say go with your gut and wear what you want and your joy in your clothes will show through.

  204. Blogging can take a lot out of you. But Polka Dots are my favorite and you always look polished and pulled together!

  205. I think these pants are supercute. And you are awesome. Being a long time blogger myself, I know exactly what you mean by not feeling like yourself on your blog sometimes. It’s like you build this beautiful, perfect little house, only to go and sit in it by yourself, lock the door and swallow the key because you think that’s all people want to see. Kind of a crappy metaphor, but all I’m saying is ‘yay. Good for you.’ 🙂

  206. You know what Kendi?  Even though your readers don’t know you, we all love you…especially when you are being yourself.  Keep doing it, no one can be you but you.

  207. Funky, Fresh, & Chic as Hell!!… favorite outfit yet!! Love it love it and even as a ‘non-blogger’ I find myself wandering off the ‘me’ path in my wardrobe, hair etc.  That is why I have hanging in my closet this brilliant Dr. Seuss quote -“Today you are You. That is truer than true. There is no one alive that is Youer than You!”  I need that reminder often!!

  208. I will say what most have said, 1. Never posted a comment before but we love you just they way you are ( a little Bridget Jones for you) 2. Completely understand burnout and In my profession (teaching yoga) it is the people that keep me coming back and a new pose/playlist/even new pair of yoga pants 3. Although I started reading you because you can rock awesome color combinations and print mixing it is you Kendi Skeen that keeps me coming back. 4. We wil go on whatever journey you want to take us on. Story of opening your store, working with your insanely cute husband, remix of outfits from your closet, don’t feel like you can’t try something new, we are all on board. 5. Finally you should be so proud of yourself you opened a gorgeous store ( which I have been to and bought some amazing pieces formy closet), inspire so many with your charm, project a positive image even when you are going through tough times, and show that you do not have to buy expensive pieces to have great style.

  209. I think those pants look great on you!  I would really love to wear pants like those, but I think that as a short girl with serious hips I’d be afraid to.  Maybe it’s all about taking the risk and just wearing what you like, and who cares about the haters.

  210. Kendi, they’re great pants! “Be who you are and say what you feel…” yeah, I love Dr. Seuss quotes.

  211. Dear Ms. Everyday please tell Ms. Skeen that her polka dot pants ROCK! thanks xo-jeni

  212. Kendi! I am so glad you wore these pants. In fact, I had to scan the article three times before I realized you didn’t like to them. I know why now. But I love them! Love seeing your everyday style!

  213. I don’t know if I can pull this off, but “you go girl!”  Don’t ever feel like you have to “dress up” just for your blog.  I love your blog because I get a sense of what I could wear “everyday” from grocery store runs to fun dinners and everything in between!

  214. 1. Those pants rock!
    2. Kendi Skeen, in particular, rocks them.
    3. I can’t speak for everyone else, but I will say that I find your blog to be engaging, witty, inspiring and lovely on a daily basis. And I know it is that way because it’s you, coming through in your words and through your fashion. I hope you feel entirely free to flex and change as you become who you are each day on this blog. This is YOUR space. I’m just grateful I get to read it each day. Whichever direction you go, I’ll remain a constant reader. It’s all good to me 🙂

  215. Your last name isn’t Everyday?!  That just blew my mind…  I hope this doesn’t sound weird, but I read your blog mainly because of the hilarious stuff you write, it honestly makes my day.  Not that I don’t love wide leg polka dot pants or neon pants or sock buns, because I do.  As for the whole phenomenon in the blogosphere of people airing it out that life is hard, I’m a ‘normal’ person, I have trials and tribulations, ya da ya da…let me just say that a normal person doesn’t have 15 thousand people waiting with bated breath to see what they put on in the morning, nor does a normal person get invited to do photo-shoots with clothing designers or find their mailbox overflowing with packages of free stuff.  But I get it…life is hard and not everyday is a party.  This message keeps sounding a bit snotty so I’m going to stop, because I really do enjoy your blog and your wit and your wide leg pants…

    1. You did not sound snotty at all, I can understand where you are coming from. I think for me I’ve seen my situation change but I haven’t really changed — does that make sense? Yes to all of those things — the readers, the photo shoots, the free things I’m sent. But for me those are elements and benefits of what is now my job. At first it was like I was something real special — I mean who doesn’t want to get free swag sometimes? But now I see it for what it is and for what it isn’t. It doesn’t make me any better than when I wasn’t getting things or not doing a photo shoot or when I didn’t have anyone reading my blog. At the end of the day, a free purse doesn’t mean I don’t have normal problems, too. Although — I’d trade a purse for problems any day of the week, right?

Thanks for the comment. And I know — it’s shocking that my last name isn’t Everyday.

  216. You should go with your gut more often, because THESE PANTS ARE AMAZING!!!

    1. ….not that all your other outfits aren’t amazing, because they are, but these- these are dripping with personality and awesomeness.

  217. You crack me up. Love the pants. I just bought a floral version earlier this week. 🙂

  218. I think your underestimating yourself and us crazy blog “readers”

I love those pants….and wish I would have found them on-sale too!

Now stop trying to be who you “think we want you to be” and be yourself.  Dammit!

    1. You have a good point there, Ash! You’re right — I shouldn’t underestimate you guys at all. I mean if you’re here you must have good taste, right? 😉

  219. I actually very much adore those polka-dot pants that no one else would buy! 😉 One of my favorite outfits so far! 😀
    much love, colie.
    xoxo

  220. Let Kendi Skeen come out more often! She is beautiful and rocks polka dot wide leg pants in a way that makes the rest of us want to do the same. That is what trendsetters do! And you are a trendsetter!

  221. I was totally going to compliment those pants…i LOVE them, then I saw your blurb…seriously the pants are awesome.

  222. I can’t speak for anyone else, but I like Kendi Skeen. Kendi Everyday is great too, but I definitely prefer the real deal. Be yourself! We like you! And who cares if we don’t? …but we do.

  223. Oh Kendi, you are seriously my favourite. You know, just in general favourite-ness. xo

  224. You know the first thing I thought when I saw the photos was “wow how unique to wear polka dots flared pants”. It was actually quite refreshing with all the homogeneity that comes along with style blogs these days. I follow you because I think you have something unique to offer and you proved my point Ms. Skeen (not Everyday…who knew?) haha i kid, i kid.

  225. Kendi,
You are more “real” than you realize. I read a lot of fashion blogs everyday, and you are the standard as far as I’m concerned. It’s not because you are the trendiest, the most high fashion, etc, but your looks are actually things I would wear everyday and looks I can translate into my own life and wardrobe. You have an authentic down to earth quality that translates into every post. So don’t doubt yourself too much… You’ve got a really good thing going here! Bringing more of your personal style could only improve things.

  226. I actually said aloud before I read your …”whoa, love those pants”
go with your truest self, I dig it!

  227. So…if Kendy Skeen is not Kendi Everyday, then…who’s weekendy? Anyway, I love their outfits and their blog, whatever the owner is!!

  228. This is actually one of my favorite outfits you’ve worn. The more true you are to yourself, the more relatable you become to readers and I for one, like relatable!

  229. Dude where what you want to wear. There’s no reason for you to come here and be someone else. Then what’s the point of this all?

  230. Hey I bought those pants as soon as they came on Anthropologie. I didn’t wanna miss out on them. So I guess we are the only two people who bought them? Lol.

  231. I sometimes feel like Kendi Skeen and I would be such good friends in real life. But for now, I’ll just pretend I’m friends with Kendi Everyday. Dammit.

  232. I completely understand this Kendi! I have a blog for women over 40 (fashion/beauty) and I decided not to post at ALL when I just can’t. Truth is, I suck at pretending. Peri-menopause and crazy hormone fluctuations are really not fun at times. 🙂  I’ve realized that people prefer REAL humans on blogs, not perfect people who are know-it-alls. Sharing actually makes writing easier and readers can relate better. Good luck, hang in there. You ROCK! Peace…

  233. Be yourself, it helps gives me the confidence to be who I am too. Love the pants!

  234. I actually just skimmed over what you said, while admiring your adorable outfit and thinking, “Can’t you just fatten up a little? For me? You look good in everything, Bitch!” Then I read about your angst and felt almost sorry for you. Mmmm. No. Never mind. 😉

FYI, everyone secretly wants to wear polka dot pants…but they somehow scream circus in a size 10 (clown, not trapeze artist).

    1. Hahaha — I see the compliment in there so thank you. Honestly I think it’s my height more than my weight, if that helps at all 🙂

  235. The only person that keeps you back is yourself 🙂 It’s your blog, It’s your life and thinking what others wouls say is ridiculous. Haters will hate. And you’re the only person I know who looks great in whide-legged pants with polka dots on them.

  236. (forgive me. I just got to catching up on my blog reads and just read this so now so here is my late comment)

I love this post! I love your honesty and can relate in more than ways than one. I, too, blog but not for followers or approval. Every time I post an outfit, I have to remember that I’m not posting for approval. I buy and wear what I like. Expensive or thrifted. I recently bought a neon orange dress(!) and was even worried wearing it out for dinner. What would people say?! And ya know what, people definitely pointed! But I love the dress and I tend to look better in brighter colors so I said, what the heck! I’ll wear it and love it. Reading and following, not only style bloggers, but mommas and women of different shapes and colors, definitely have made me come into my own. You’re not your blog. And if you want your blog to be a true reflection of you, then stay true to Kendi in each post and outfit 🙂

Thanks for blogging everyday. I do love your story….quitting your job…opening Bloom…following your heart. That is inspirational. The cute outfits are just a bonus.

  237. aw, kendi – i totally know what you are talking about! i read your blog, and follow what you post regularly. i find you to be super down to earth, and beautiful inside and out.

  238. Awww, man! I missed this post a day late?! Kendi – I’ve been following your blog long when your clothing store was just a dream, when you suffered through co-workers giving you nasty looks at yellow tights, and long before you were ever a .com 🙂  I’ve seen your “art of the outfit” grow, adapt, and change with you – you will always be there in what you wear. No matter how alien it may feel – there just HAS to be some part of you there. People grow and change. However, I will admit, honestly, that I’ve seen your outfits change, and I have asked myself, “Where’s that Kendi that threw a dress on and made it a skirt and put a shirt on top – and didn’t care if it matched or not?” That’s YOU Kendi. You are this same girl here and now – as you were then. Don’t let you growing as a person hinder your spunk in your style. You GET what the “art of the outfit” is – right? It’s your personality showing THROUGH your clothes. Don’t let your personality, humor, spunk and carefree self EVER be tamed. Throw that scarf on in 100 degree Texan heat 🙂 Wear those yellow tights. Because that’s the Kendi who started this blog, that’s the Kendi who won the hearts of readers, THAT’S the Kendi who is here today. Has to be. No one else is YOU.

    Be. You.

    1. Thank you for that. I needed to hear all of those words. You’re right — everything except for the yellow tights. I stopped wearing those because sleezy men on flickr sent me messages that were CREEPY and ever since I can’t look at colored tights. So besides that, you are spot on. 🙂

I think sometimes creativity is hindered by opinion, rather we like it or not. Yes, I completely get the art of the outfit concept exactly. Exactly how my brain works, too! That’s what made me start my blog in the first place — why not look at your closet as a blank canvas? So thank you for the kind reminder. Sometimes the origin of where you start gets lost on the path, ya know?

Sometimes the real Kendi gets a little gun shy and she pares down the weird, just so that I don’t get the comments that re-affirm things I already know. But I’m reading your comment over and over and it’s so re-affirming.

Thanks for loving me through the yellow tights years, the dress as a top years, and the what seems like a scene from reality bites year.

      XO

  239. you are just a delight.  a true delight.  I can not tell you how fun and funny and cute and sweet your posts are and how much I look forward to them.  Thank you for being real and open and letting us in to your life.  thank you.

  240. I know I’m a day late, but I just had to say — I love these pants!! I’m seriously about to go troll ebay in the hopes I can find a similar pair…or at least a good pattern to make my own. Your blog is fantastic, even more so when you’re Kendi Skeen!! I come here weekly (much as I would like to read blogs everyday, I just don’t have the time) for your fashion, wit, and pure awesomeness!! Chin up lady, you rock!

  241. I like Kendi Skeen’s outfit just fine.  Cute pants!  Makes me want a pair of fun, patterned palazzo pants (try saying that five times fast!).

  242. You look awesome in those pants. And Kendi Skeen is way more interesting than anyone else anyways 🙂 Love this rawness.

  243. Crazy, this must be one of my favourite outfit of yours. Love the pants! Greetings from one of your Swedish readers.

  244. More polka dot pants!! Wear whatever the heck you want – you always look fabulous!

  245. I like this Kendi Skeen lady, she’s alright. And thank you Kendi Everyday for sharing her life and her clothes with us, I find it all very inspiring. I go shopping or am on Pinterest and see things and think – oooh Kendi would like that.

  246. Kendi! You are such a doll. Wear whatever you want and just keep being yourself. I adore your blog and your style, but my favorite thing about you is your ways with words. You are hilarious and you make my day every single day! Thanks. (and I want the pants.)

  247. Kendi, I love those pants!! It was my first thought before I even read the post. Love the post too. I love your blog so much because you come across as a normal person (does that sound weird?) with amazing style.  I say just be you!

  248. Kendi Everyday, Kendi Skeen… I think you're a rockstar whatever.
And the sock bun tutorial? Life changing. (This is coming from a girl who considers herself the doyenne of bun knowledge…)

  249. First off, I think "Skeen is my last name, not Everyday" is hilarious. Second, I think those pants are awesome, and also whatever you put together WILL look fabulous because you know what looks good! Thanks for sharing your real feelings though, it makes your blog seem a lot more personal. I'm a huge fan!

    perfectly priya

  250. Love. the. pants. Love. the. blog.

I read Kendi Everyday well, everyday. And when I can't, I go back and read the posts I've missed as soon as possible. To be honest, if I wanted to read a blog written by a snotty, bitchface who wouldn't be seen in wide-leg polka dot pants, there are innumerable blogs I could read. But, I don't. I read yours because whether Skeen, Everyday, Post-Emo, Pre-Alki or whatever, you're pretty freaking amazing to me.

  251. Thank you for that. I needed to hear all of those words. You're right — everything except for the yellow tights. I stopped wearing those because sleezy men on flickr sent me messages that were CREEPY and ever since I can't look at colored tights. So besides that, you are spot on. 🙂

  254. I want throes pants.. And I adore your personality (on the blog that is as I don’t know you in real life). You have the unique ability to transfer the sarcasm in your head to paper{ie Internet} and have it be done effortlessly and flawlessly to the reader. Xoxoxo

  258. Hey Kendi, first time commentor, long time reader (always wanted to say that).
It sounds like you've become a victim of your own success in a way. With popularity, you have invariably acquired a few trolls along the way who live to criticize others and relish in making people question their own choices and who they are. Maybe its made you feel less like sharing your real self as a form a defence – i don't blame you – but kendi skeen and kendi everyday are one in the same and you should be able to show every aspect of yourself on here. You've got a good following of loyal readers who love your style and love your sharp wit, and also your polka dot pants.

  259. Honestly, I like this version! You are being you and that’s all you should be. Don’t worry about who likes what….this is by far one of my favorite outfits I have seen from you in awhile. Being relaxed and being ourselves and showing that realness is what draws people in….not what you think they want to see. Keep it up!

  261. 1. I am stoked for this glorious post about your “emo stage”
    2. Let your real personality fly! I bet we will love it! And you must MUST share amazing outfits with awesome polka dot pants! Let’s see more of Kendi Skeen on Kendi Everyday! We are tight behind you! 🙂

I’m loving these pants so much, and your honesty and transparency in this post even more! ..which is why I shared it on my blog today as part of my weekly “Saturday link love” !

    Here’s a little link if you’d like to take a look-see! :

  263. I love these pants!  Maybe because they look like pjs and I LOVE pjs.  Regardless of the reason, it never occurred to me that you would be “hiding” Kendi Skeen…  Of course, it makes sense because I think we’re all more aware of who we are on the interwebs, but it also makes me a bit sad.  Sad that we hide ourselves, and sad that as a reader I assume your life is all Anthropologie and rainbows.

But I love your blog and would LOVE to know Kendi Skeen! Unless she’s super boring that is 🙂

  265. I know I am waaaaay behind, but I had to post my comment anyway. After opening your site this morning, this is the 1st outfit I found myself wanting to pin! Keep being yourself – your tribe will recognize you.

  266. I actually super love this outfit. More than a lot of stuff I see on fashion blogs…

  267. I know I’m late to the party, but I was actually shocked to see these pants on here. Not to be a jerk, but most of your outfits are too catalog-y for my taste and I stopped reading; I can see the same looks in a Loft lookbook. When I saw you in the IFB pic, I decided to see what you were up to, since some of my favorite bloggers were pictured with you. I’m not saying this to hurt your feelings, but I’m saying that if these pants are more “Kendi”, and you started dressing more true to yourself, I’d be much more excited about and inspired by your blog. Readers like plot development; the same outfits, like the same plot, get boring. So I hope to see some more ballsy fashion about these parts.

  271. A story for you: I bought hot pink, high-waisted, linen pants from a thrift store because they are so awesome. But so scary. If worn the wrong way, they would like Great Aunt Lucille after a Florida vacation. After six months, I committed to wearing them, but got cold feet on the morning of. I tried on three different shirts. Nothing looked right. All I could think of was, “Kendi Granny bottom!” I searched those magical words and found the exact post I was looking for, the one where you wear the blue, high-waisted, once-belonged-to-someone’s-granny-pants. The leopard print belt was what I needed to pull it all together. I got compliments all day long, even though I vacilated back and forth between feeling awesome and feeling 85. My point? You inspired me to take a risk. Your personality coming through inspired me to let mine come through, too.
I can’t imagine putting it all out there on a blog everyday, where people judge and think they know you, and all of that. I feel like I know you, and I have to remind myself that I do not, but you make me feel at home, if that makes sense. I adore you, I feel protective of you, you feel like a friend, even if it’s just a blog world friend. And the beauty of friendship (even fantasy friendship!) is that friends accept you as you are. I’ve been reading since near the beginning, and it’s been exciting to see you evolve and yet retain your you. That’s not a typo. You got where you are because you are you; I”ll keep following you because I like you, however you are. Judging from these comments, I’m not alone.

  273. I love that look and please be yourself on the blog, we want to see kendi, in every way. you don’t need to be two people. I have had similar thoughts, that sometimes I dress for my blog, not for myself, but it doesn’t make any sense, because you are your blog and you should be comfortable with everything, also showing the not so smart or blogger like choices, if you feel like them! Keep it going, i like this real thing!

  275. I know I’m days late to be commenting but life is nutz and won’t let me read all my blogs as often as I’d like. Sorry.
I am totally in love with those pants and I’m totally down with whichever Kendi wants to wear them, wherever she wants to wear them. Do your thang girl. 🙂

  281. blogging is SO hard, and i admire your tenacious, consistent approach to yours! keep it up, and thanks for being honest while you’re at it. you don’t have to fake your way through blogging life.

and by the way, you’re wearing the hell out of those pants. xo

  283. Kendi, I’ve been a quiet stalker of your blog for a long time (small-town parking garage days), and the thing I’ve always loved about you was your ability to mix being unique with looking fabulous.  You dare to be different, and look damn good doing it.  I was scrolling through old posts tonight (it’s been a busy summer, and I was indulging in a long-time-coming Kendi fix), and the first thing I thought when I saw this was “Yes!  I love it when Kendi posts something funky and totally her”… and then I read the text. I think you should know that you were the person who took this jeans a t-shirt girl and made her into a “I get to create myself every day—this is amazing!” feeling sorta girl.  It sounds silly, but reading your blog has made me so much more confident and interested in who I am and what I’m about.  More often than not these days, I like who I am.  And even more than that, I like being able to create it every day, just with a little intention about what I put on my body.  It sounds silly to say it’s been life changing, reading your blog…. but it kind of has been.

So please, please—-wear the polka dotted pants.  Not because anyone else will wear them, but because someone might see you and be inspired to be themselves, too.

    Thanks for everything.

    Rebekah
