socks
Yesterday I wore two different socks. There is no actual problem with this, the function was still there just not the form. But the thing is I didn’t realize this until last night, as I was getting ready for bed. I looked down and there they were: my two mismatched feet, in polka dot socks. Then I realized one more thing: I am tired.

For the last 6 months, we have been going non-stop. Partly because we like to be busy and partly because life is busy. Lesson learned that life doesn’t stop, even when you need it to. I am tired, not of my blog or of you guys, just in general. I would work 24 hours a day, if my body would let me. But I can’t, as I’ve learned. I need a weekend and I need a nap. Yes, I’ve realized all of this because of one — well technically two — pairs of perfectly mismatched socks. So to that I declare that it is okay. It’s okay to be more than a little tired at times, a little mismatched, a little disheveled. It’s okay to wake up in the mismatched socks that you wore yesterday and to not care. It’s okay to take a day off, or two, or three. It’s okay to take outfit pictures and realize you hate your outfit. It’s okay to vow to only wear sweatpants for the next two days. It’s okay to take a break.

Whatever it is, it’s okay.

Here is to the weekend, see you and a new pair of socks on Monday.

  1. *sorry…typo…see how tired I am?? lol

Awwww Kendi, I know how you feel….I got myself a little sick from not sleeping over this past week…its not hard to do…you get wrapped up in the everyday….feel like you just cant say "no" to anyone..and before you know it…your body is saying NO to you…..take a little rest hunnie..you surely deserve it…march those two mismatched socks directly to the couch with a cup of hot cocoa and spend the day vegetating watching the Food Network..I think I may do just the same thing:)

    Hugs!!!

  2. Take your time girl! you deserve a break!!!I like the way you write your posts. So out of the box ,any tips? But later….

  3. YEAH!! Well said… er… written.

Sometimes life can be VERY hectic, and 6 months is a loooooong time.

PS – love your drapey vs. droopy post (hehe) and yipee (!) your birthday is coming!!

  4. this is EXACTLY how I've been feeling too! Thank you for this…sometimes it's just nice to know you aren't the only one 🙂

  5. I actually love the mismatched socks, they fit well! I know the feeling. Once I did a whole fitness session without realizing that I had put my t-shirt upside down. Then I realized I had to take the time to breathe and slow down a bit to enjoy life a bit more.
    Enjoy the rest!

  6. I know exactly how you feel… It once took me three hours of teaching to realize that I wasn't wearing a bra! Luckily, I was wearing a loose dress, but I was still mortified.

  7. Whew, what is it about this time of year?! I've also been extremely busy & feeling like I'm spread a little too thin these days…or weeks or months. Hope you enjoy your weekend of relaxation!

  8. i love your blog and you are so funny! it is hard to transfer sarcasm/a good sense of humor into writing, but you achieve it. you have inspired me to start pursuing my dream of making/selling my jewelry, thank you for being such an inspiration.

  9. Its more than okay to take time off when you're tired, and even when you're not. 😉
Hope your weekend was splendid and relaxing! You deserve it 🙂 And hooray for your birthday coming up, happy birthday!!

  10. I never wear matching socks. It's not because I'm tired, it's because I'm too lazy to match them. But I agree. If you need a break, take a break. Everyone will be here when you get back.

  11. Isn't it funny when things like that happen. When we just are so focused on going we don't realize the details. One time I woke up at three in the morning and showered and got all ready before I realized I didn't need to be up for 4 more hours. Funny. Love your blog and your style.

  12. it *is* ok and it seems you are hinting to feeling overworked and exhausted! just so you know, you aren't going to lose any friends by taking a little bloggy break every once in a while! 🙂

  13. I think it's obvious from the comments that we've all been there. In fact, I'm there right now. Here's to mismatched socks and, one day, when I wise up and take a day off, mornings spent snuggled under the covers. Hope you enjoyed a breather this weekend!

  14. Take a break Miz Everyday. I know that I sometimes take mental health/"I needs a break" days. If it makes you feel any better, I think those socks are adorable and that the mismatch sock thing might be coming back…and you're just ahead of the game. 🙂

ps…where did you get those? I've been looking for some cute (no cats or other small animals on them) socks.

  15. Amen! Busy is good, but I'm also realizing that you have to take a break every once in a while. Otherwise you might go crazy! Hope you had a relaxing weekend!

  16. I did the same thing! One black sock, and one white sock, except that of course I didn't realize anyone would notice until I had to remove my shoes to go through security at the airport. Twice. The TSA gal mentioned it to me, and all I could say is, "What are you gonna do? I'm on vacation." To make matters worse, since I packed in the dark at the last minute, I must have grabbed socks from our orphans box because none of my sock matched. Not one. Sweet.

  17. It's all good Kendi! You are human!! I cannot imagine being non-stop for 6 months! I was non-stop for 2 weeks then crashed. Take of yourself girl. 🙂

  18. Amen. This post reminds me of Glamour magazines "It's okay…" feature each month.

BTW: I have been known from time to time to wear mismatched socks myself. The only difference: I fully realize it as I am picking out socks. Somehow most of my sock couples become singles after their first wash.

  21. Can I make your wish list my wish list, too? Am really loving the polka dots everything right now. Happy belated birthday!

  22. Oh goodness! I love that you didn't notice until the end of the day. But, for non-matching socks, they're kinda a good match! I rock 'em.

Hope you had a restful weekend!

  23. yes! it is okay to take a break! thanks for the honesty about the mismatched socks though….that was worth a good chuckle just now!

  24. My comment is SO not about fashion. I teach 13 yr olds–but not tomorrow. I am taking a day off. But my goodness, the prep time involved in getting ready for it? You'd think I thought the world would end and life as we know it would evaporate if I didn't leave everything perfect.

But if left some unmatched socks?? Oh well. I am sure the world will spin madly on. It's okay for me to wear sweatpants tomorrow? Thanks, don't mind if I do.

  25. Kendi- how is it that you make me laugh, inspire me to dress more creatively, and also remind me how I want to live my life?? You're amazing! Just sayin…

  26. I have those socks (or ones really similar) as well as a pair of red with white polka dots and black with white polka dots. H&M four packs are pretty awesome 🙂
