In The Bag: Makeup Edition

10.1.10makeup

I am no Keiko Lynn, that is for certain. In fact, this is all my makeup bag contains. I think that I had more makeup in my caboodle when I was 11 than I do now. Perhaps less is more when it comes to makeup. If only my mother still supplied my caboodle and makeup habit, maybe I could be a bit more adventurous.

As you can see, I am a drugstore junkie when it comes to makeup. My foundation is the most expensive item in my bag, but it lasts well over 7 or 8 months so I don't mind the splurge. Between Target and Sephora, my face is pretty well covered.

Clockwise from the top:
Mascara: Revlon Fabulash
Bronze & Blush Duo: Nars Highlighting/Bronzer Blush in Orgasm/Laguna
Foundation: Laura Mercier Tinter Moisturizer with SPF 20
Concealer: Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer
Cream Eye Shadow: Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow in Skinny Jeans
Lip Gloss: Korres Lip Butter in Jasmine
Liquid Eyeliner: Maybelline Line Stiletto in Black
Eye Shadows: Maybelline Expert Wear Eye Shadows in Tranquil Sands and Amethyst
Eye Lash Curler: Benefit Lash Curler

Now that you know what's in my bag, I want to know what's in yours. What's your favorite item in your makeup bag?

wow this makes me want to run out and purchase them all! You always so picture perfect in your posts!

I am SO not a makeup girl, in fact my makeup bag consists of L'oreal Voluminous mascara, revlon liquid eyeliner and bareminerals. No joke.

I have other things for occasions like wedding but that's I ever use Oh and mac poetic license lip gloss occasionally.

Practicality says "moisturizer with sunscreen," but aesthetically I'd say Maybelline Full n' Soft mascara! My hair is blonde so my lashes and brows are pretty fair, and a quick fill-in of brows and swipe of mascara make the biggest difference for me!

I also love EOS lipbalm, especially in the winter

Love Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer and Korres Lip Butter - great products!

I need to do one of these posts. I love the Laura Mercier stuff too. I have the primer and foundation. I need to try the tinted moisturizer though!

I need to start a make up bag! I have a bottle of spf face lotion, eye lash curler, and mascara. But I hardly ever use the curler or mascara. School has consumed my life.

Lip balm is my own personal form of crack, so the star of my make-up nag is Rosebud Salve, also a Sephora staple. And now they carry it in the handy tube (as opposed to the tin), so it really doesn't get any better than that for me.

I am in LOVE with that line stiletto by Maybelline.

I absolutely adore my Maybelline mousse concealer! It does such an amazing job covering everything up I only need a dusting of powder over it! Though, the most useful thing is probably my sunscreen. Or mascara. I die without mascara.

My lipgloss is the most essential thing in my makeup bag!

I've heard so many great things about Nars Orgasm blush that I may have to try some.

I'm a big Clinique girl myself. I couldn't live without their airbrush concealer. without it my eyes make me look ill!

I have to agree about the Nars blush/bronzer. They are staples for me in my makeup bag.

anastasia's brow stuff is amazing! You can get it at sephora, nordstroms, or ulta. I have the powder and the brow gel. Changed my life.

Definitely a no make up girl here! I just have blush and a brow pencil and it's a pretty sorry one at that. My Bloom blush saves my life though. I feel dead with out it. I definitely want to invest in good concealer too.

I really adore how minimal your makeup collection is. You know what works for you!

I had a feeling we had similar tastes in makeup, I'm a fan of the Nars blush as well. I had no idea Maybelline made concealer in the mousse line, I can highly recommend the dream mousse blush if you're feeling adventerous, I think you'd like it, too.

Bryn said...

Bobbi Brown blush in Tawny - hands down the best blush I've ever used. It lasts and looks perfect on my skin tone.

In fact, we have a very similar skin tone so I highly recommend it to you!!

Thanks for showing us what's in your bag! Love it.

My favorites are from Tarte: blush and under eye concealer. And Estee Lauder eyeshadows- long lasting and they stay put. I've been looking for a new tinted moisturizer, might try this one next.

My Labello (brand of chapstick that I need to have on me at ALL times) and my eyelash curler. For some reason I can't wear mascara without looking like a tranny. :)

I swear by Nars Orgasm (OK, me and 500 important makeup artists and beauty mags). Nothing else makes me look so awake in the morning!

Also, I want that cream shadow, mostly because of the great name. Skinny jeans that always fit. ;)

I saw the picture and thought you have a lot more than me. I just recently bought 2 new lipsticks so I have 5 but 2 I don't like. I will make a make-up bag post

The eye shadows you use are so pretty! I think my favorite make up item (which doesn't count lotion with SPF, right?) is probably my latest discovery, CoverGirl's Lash Blast mascara. The big orange tube is slightly off putting (why is it so big and orange?!), but I feel like it triples my whisper-light, rabbit-like lashes!

My absolute favorite item? Lancome Photogenic concealer in Ivoire (yes, I am that pale). Of course, since I can't live without it, it's being discontinued...So I've been looking for concealer recommendations & I'm interested to try this Maybelline one you use!

Cathy said...

Where's your blush brush from? I'm in the market for a new one, but was crippled by indecision and haven't bought one yet. And some of my stand-by's include Clinique Lucky Penny eye shadow, Aveda duel foundation in Honey, mascara, and pink lip gloss.

I'm so envious of your streamlined makeup bag! I really need to cut back. Truly the only makeup I could not live without is my Laura Mercier concealer. Of course if I went out wearing only concealer I'd still look half dead, but it's the only product I really have a loyalty too. I'm a makeup harlot.

Heather said...

I typically leave the house without wearing any makeup, but I'm a huge fan of Clinique mascara- it's not that spendy and it makes my eyelashes look pretty awesome without feeling gross at the end of the day. I really only bother with eyeshadow for snazzy occasions...and still use the same colors rec'd when i got my makeup done for prom. 7 years ago.

Jordyn said...

I have an insane amount of makeup...it's embarrassing. However, my staples are Laura Mercier's Tinted Moisturizer, Benefit's cream eye shadow in Birthday Suit, Benefit Erase Paste, and L'oreal Voluminous Mascara. Wow, I sound high maintenance!

oh I always love to see people's make-up choices, I'm a little "duh!" with make-up so I need lots of inspiration! I am loving Boots makeup from Target lately especially their mineral powder and invisible foundation (it's called something like that!). I'll have to try that liquid eyeliner Boots' is a little smudgy (or perhaps that is user error!).

Katie said...

I'm a total drugstore junkie too. I'd love to venture into the "good stuff" at some point but my budget just doesn't allow it right now.

My favorite foundation right now is Revlon's Photo Finish. And, really, Revlon anything is usually fantastic in my opinion! :)

My favorites: e.l.f. eyelash curler and shimmer pallet, L'Oreal liquid eyeliner (so in love with this!), and Victoria's Secret lip gloss. Must-haves!

I love the minimalism! And since you always look amazing, it truly works.

My favorite thing in my makeup bag is Mary Kay lipgloss in cream & sugar. I've been wearing it regularly for a few years and even though I keep trying other brands, other colors, etc., I always come back to that one.

The 3 items I cannot do without:

CoverFx foundation compact
Marcelle Bronze Eyeliner
Mascara

That's it. Then lip balm (Rosebud salve in a squeeze-y tube) and that's it

My fave fave FAVE lip balm is Burt's Bees in Watermelon... Hate wearing lipstick (drying) or gloss (sticky), but this is perfect and goes with me everywhere!

amberly said...

Haha, "I am no Keiko Lynn," I love it. When you posted this, I wanted to go out on a makeup shopping spree!!! I love your choices of eye shadows, and that lipgloss looks so dreamy...must buy next time at Sephora.

My favorite item is Smashbox's BrowTec To-go, I have light eyebrows and this has the perfect angled pencil and gel, I love how it helps me control the shape of my brows, cause, well, without it, I may not have any...damn fair skin.

Love your makeup bag, doll. Have you done a purse one before? I must look!! And I too want to re-introduce a caboodle in my world.

I'm about to do a makeup post in a couple of days on my own blog, but it's funny I have a lot of products, but I barely wear any.

My favorite thing in my makeup bag is my dior show mascara!

Some of the best products are found at the drugstore! My makeup supply is in limbo as I'm trying to get away from products that are known to be high risk due to chemicals, etc.

hey girl betcha my make-up bag has way less.
my favorite make-up item is waterproof covergirl mascara and of coarse the coverup stick, ya know for those dark circles
do ya think it's working ?

Me and Korres lip butter are very intimate, guava being a fave there. I also have a little tubey-schmubey of Aveeno Skin Brightening moisturizer with spf mixed with a healthy dollop of Revlon Color Stay foundation for a DIY tinted moisturizer/foundation. Those two plus a swipe of Maybelline Falsies mascara does me good day in and day out. I LOVE that mascara because you can use the inside of the "spoon brush" to keep the coverage more natural, or flip it to the underside of the spoon to really amp your lash puppies to the fullest.

TK said...

I'm very much a make-up minimalist, but my ultimate staple right now is Benefit's That Gal face primer- I use it instead of foundation just to get a little glow. And for drugstore mascara, Maybelline's Lash Stiletto is very impressive.

Stephanie said...

Bare Minerals concealer, foundation, and bronzer. I also just got a Tarte eyelash curler and LOVE it! Mac has a great eyeshadow/cream shadow primer I use daily under my eyeshadow(color, Fawn). I'm with you-less is more when it comes to the make up stash!

Jenna said...

I've recently started using the Jane Iredale PurePressed Base, and I love it. Like you, I'm more willing to open my wallet for face products, especially if they have lasting power. I also can't bring myself to use anything but a powder foundation.

My other loves include my Diorshow mascara and my Covergirl+Olay Simply Ageless Concealer; I'm only 21, but this concealer glides on so smooth!

what brush do you use for the blush/bronzer and how do you put it on?

I use & love the LM tinted moisturizer! Will try the mascara.

My most favourite, most loved, most absolutely cannot do without piece is my Kevyn Aucoin "The Curling" mascara. Seriously, I have tried many others but nothing comes anywhere close to this.
I will never use another brand of mascara again.

I love to snoop in people's bags so bad. I asked people who read my blog to post their contents for my birthday for this reason.
Here is half my makeup collection. (photo at bottom)
http://www.byhillary.com/2010/07/weekend-roundup-on-tuesday.html

But if I were to only pick a few items I can't live without. Concealer a heavy duty one for under my eyes and a hot pink blush because I am so fair people tend to ask if I feel OK if I don't have some color on my cheeks.

I've tried all kinds of mascaras, from drug store brands to cosmetic counter brands and I continually go back to L'Oreal Voluminous. Love the brush and love the formula. When they came out with Carbon Black, I almost cried from the perfection of it. :)

My two makeup favorites are my Shu Uemura eyelash curler and Covergirl Lash Blast Length. If I had only 5 mins to do my makeup, I would use those.
So disappointed that I can no longer buy my eyelash curler at my local Sephora.

I love this post! Your skin always looks so good, thanks for letting us know what you use=) I however will not list my makeup items as I've got too many to list... but now I'm inspired to simplify my makeup bag lol^^

Janni said...

Mostly lipsticks and lip gloss. I have one eye brow pencil that, believe it or not, I use as a lip liner, lol. I can never find the perfect lip color and that is what i use to create it. I also have this amazing VS lip gloss that you apply with a brush cause it's so thick, but I love it cause it stays put, almost all day long! And its super glossy, so I love that. Unfortunately they discontinued it, so I am treasuring it...
I don't use mascara cause I rub my eyes way too much and I haven't used face powder since high school. I hardly get blemish's, so I really don't need it. Only in the summer do I use a bronzer powder and it's from Lancome.

My fav item is Fresh Firebird mascara. With other mascaras I used to have to wipe the wand off before applying, no matter how many times they promised no clumps and even coverage. But Firebird is awesome, and I swear it curls my lashes too!

Not gonna lie, I love me some Mac, so that fills up my makeup bag. My skin won't break out with Mac and it last all day! So I splurg on that.

I do still use green/hot pink mascara from Maybelline though :)

I'm a minimalist when it comes to my makeup routine also. My favorite product over the past year has been Covergirl's Lash Blast. Loooove that mascara!

My bag must have a gloss. PERIOD.
I can survive without the rest. BUT I NEED THAT GLOSS FIX!

I am a complete product junkie and my bag is currently overflowing ridiculously. My current favorite is Tarte's Femme Natural Eye Palette. It's lasted almost a year and is the perfect blend of colors for my needs.

Yay!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you for finally posting the details of your m/u routine. Love the layout!

If I had to name two "go to" items that have yet to fail me, they would be Bare Minerals Matte foundation (hated the original formula; love the new and improved matte variety) and Cover Girl Volume Exact Waterproof mascara in black for lashes that are long, full, defined, and hold a curl.

An honorable mention goes to Bare Minerals loose eyeshadow in Vanilla Sugar - a shimmery (but not too shimmery) beigey-pink that I use as a daily wash on my lids for just a hint of color and to wake up my eye area.

Amazing concealer, from Sephora. Pricey but it lasts forever (a little goes a long way) and it covers a multitude of sins, eg, for me, dark undereye circles.

I'm a total CVS junkie because at any point in the work day I can say "I need to run to the pharmacy/drug store" and leave the office without being interrogated! My eyelashes are pretty much invisible, so if I don't wear mascara I look like an alien. Just found Maybelline Falsies mascara and it is seriously like wearing false lashes but not as scary. Loving their lip stain, too. It doesn't look lipsticky at all, so I can keep my tomboy rep and make people think I just have naturally glamorous red lips.
