10.13.10cToday I had a really good hair day. Unusually good, in fact I suspected that it was raining this morning when I peeked outside. A hair day this good calls for rain, much like a just washed car or a clean, white shirt. I peeked outside and nothing but stillness.

Until 5 pm came around bringing along with it a forceful wind. Since it was save the good hair day or take outfit pictures, I chose the latter and sacrificed the hair. Best laid plans, right?

In a way, This is how the last few years of my life has been. I dream up a plan that works perfectly in my head (or in this case on my head) and I try to stay on that plan, only to watch the wind blow it down. Life tosses me a curveball and I have to make a choice — stay with the plan or go with the wind. Somedays I play it safe, I stick to the plan. Other days I go with the wind. To be honest, those are the better days. Those are the better choices.

If it’s for or against you, go where the wind takes you.

  2. Elizabeth —

Dear sweet naive friend. It looks like a freaking hurricane. You would be so disappointed. I'll take a picture of it and post it. And then you'll feel sorry for me as to why I do not hang anything up.

Give me a few days to clean, k?

  3. Gorgeous outfit! You are so effortlessly beautiful! You're right, the best days are the ones where you go where the wind takes you.

  4. Gorgeous as always but I have to say my first reaction was "mermaid". Who doesn't like mermaids?!

  5. First thing that came to mind, sexy. That first picture with the coyly raised eyebrow, job well done.

I agree with you on the wind aspect. I've been feeling some pretty strong gusts lately…

  6. Lou — Crack me up. I can see the mermaid reference for sure.

Amy — one of my favorite scenes from one of my favorite movies.

  7. Too cute I like the mix of patterns and textures! I have that shirt also and love it…comfy and stylish can't beat that!

  8. I always have good hair days when I have no place special to go, or no one to see me that day…its like Karma is toying with me!!

    Those shoes are truly fabulous!

And fantastic words of wisdom. Its usually scarier to go with the wind, but sometimes you just gotta do it!

  9. Kendi!! How the heck do you make target and f21 pieces look like a million bucks!! I love it lady!! 🙂

    xx Love & Aloha

  10. Verrrry tricky of you to subtly sneak in a life lesson in what was a deceptively silly post about hair days. I see what you did there. 🙂

I also really love the picture where the light bounces off all those sequins. oooh, the sparkles.

  11. I've been looking for a skirt with just the right amount of sparkle, and this looks like it might be perfect. Love what you paired it with!

  12. Hi! thank you so much for answering my hair question. and i am looking forward to the hair tutorial vid, i hope you post it soon.

i checked out your 30 for 30 challenge, i can't join it just yet but thank you for giving me an idea on how to grow my wardrobe. =D

i need help with the accessories, i have zero belts due to an ample sized waist, he he. and the layering part [i live in very hot country] is a challenge. =D

but i'm sure glad i found you, you are my kind of style. =D

  13. I think the wind makes your good hair day even better! You look great in these pics, and as always I love your outfit! I would normally be nervous to buy such a sequinced skirt, but yours is super cute!

  14. sequined skirt with striped shirt? a-mazing!! Love it. Definitely go with the wind. You're right, better days, better choices. More fun!!

  15. Sorry guys, I forgot to list my belt. Dang.

It's from J.Crew Outlet, so essentially J.Crew. I saw one in there the other day too, so I know they still have them!

  16. although i appreciate and laugh at your sarcasm, what you have said about going where the wind takes you, is some of the truest words i've ever heard! definitely something i needed to hear 🙂

  17. Kendra — I did! About two weeks ago. I couldn't find it online however, so that's frustrating. But yes, I bought it recently. The shoes were the only thing not bought this year.

  18. Seriously – stripes, sparkles, leopard print, and booties – how do you pull it off so extraordinarily well?! You truly have a gift! I love everything about this outfit, and the windswept hair – makes for better pictures 🙂

    Awesome – just awesome.

  20. You WOULD rock a black sequin pencil skirt and style it up to perfection! And such wise words Kendi, I hope the wind blows you towards a plan that sticks and makes you happy xoxo

  21. haha good hair days totally always get ruined by rain, you're right. although i live in providence where it rains every other day anyway, so good hair days are pretty much always useless…haha

but anyway the combination of sequins, stripes and leopard print is PERFECT. i must must do an outfit with those three elements!
